I've been thinking of getting one of these. So what does it come with...usb cable...battary charger...what else? What are the worth while games on this thing? Are the UMD's any good? :p Can I emulate snes games on a psp...if so...is the frame rate any good? Can I download mp3's right off my itunes onto a psp. What do I need in order to do this? ;P

If you find enough games that you like to justify buying it, then go for it.
I personally don't see the allure of the portable movies or browsing, but I'm sure that it's good for a long journey here and there (though the battery life somewhat puts me off), and I'd rather go for an MP3 player to listen to music. I want a portable console for games, and just games.
But yeah, it does everything, movies, music, games and emulators, though the last I heard the framerate on SNES was a bit sketchy. Oh, and I hear Sony are working hard to erase Homebrew, but considering how the people who write that kind of thing are endlessly more innovative than Sony I doubt it'll happen.
If it had more games that I'd enjoy playing, and didn't cost as much, I'd get one.

the special bonuses of the PSP don't attract me, so I prefer the DS

You have to think about what games you like. The only good games for the PSP are sports. If you like RPG's stay with the gameoby. But by all means the PSP is great, even thoguh it sractches up real easy. It's beautiful.

I use my PSP to play Lumines, listen to music, play NES games (the only emulator I've downloaded for it so far) and I watch the Spiderman 2 UMD that came with mine.
However, I like the games DS has better. So it depends on what you want. Sometimes I wish I got a DS, but then I listen to music on my PSP and feel better. 'Cause listening to music and playing NES games is free, while Nintendogs and such and such are new games and cost more monies.

That and Nintendogs gets frustrating/boring/stupid (delete as appropriate) after a pretty quick time.

I'll admit I've yet to play it BUT I WANT TO SOO FREAKING BAD! And, knowing the difference between the you and the me, I'd probably be addicted to it for an indeterminable amount of time.
I don't remember the name of the DS game I was playing the other day though... I was totally addicted to it. It's an anime surgeon simulator-type game.

Trauma Center : Under the Knife, I WANT.
I've asked Xander to get me Phoenix Wright : Ace Attorney at Law for Christmas, so I can be all "OBJECTION!" and stuff.
Innovative DS games = win, I want the one on the desert island too, as well as Ouendan music game thingy, gotta import that one.
And I REALLY liked Nintendogs when I was playing it Xander's DS, in fact it was the whole reason I got one, it was so freaking cute it had me addicted (and we missed a train because of it), but once I had my own and I was training it, it somewhat lost the allure.
That and despite trying to maintain an equal pitch on my voice, it refused to listen to me a lot of the time.

That’s mainly why I’ve been fighting this decision. On one hand, the DS is the way to go for innovative, fun and addictive games. However, the PSP can play emulated roms, mp3’s and all other loads of /xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif. Game wise…PSP only has good sports games and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories…which is considered the best game on the PSP. Then there’s the UMD’s. So in the end I’d rather get more features than a touch screen at the bottom…but on the other hand…one has a library of better games. But I think it all evens out. PSP for me though.

The way I see it, I'll get both eventually, but for me the games and the pricetag on the DS threw it that way.
I'll get a PSP, but the features do nothing for me (I watch films at home on a DVD player, I have an MP3 player), and there are no games to pull me in.
It's all a personal thing, I'd suggest you research the PSP, look at all the games there are and the games slated for release in the near future, as well as how much you'll use and enjoy the features.

Well see, that's where we differ. My dvd player sucks...I have no mp3 player and playing Chrono Trigger at work sounds fun. Plus I'm hardly home, not since I started working, so a psp sounds great.

One thing to note that while the PSP doesn't have a whole lot of great titles right now, the lineup is looking pretty good. It will not be totally berft of good games, but the DS also has an excellent selection.

This may be the only PSP/DS thread without rabid fanboys going "OMG U SUX YAY NINTENDO/SONY SMASHY SMASHY."
...I hope I didn't jinx it. :o
Phoenix Wright : Ace Attorney at Law is also awsome, but I was more enjoying cutting people.

It's true that the batter life is shorter, but I've yet to run into that as an issue. I don't need to use it for longer than four hours straight, and so I charge it when it's low. And if the battery's dead or dying at the beginning of the school day I just bring the charger to class and plug it into the plugs intended for students' laptops. xD
