I know, everyone steals from Marilyn Manson, travesty ain't it?

I like how they caught Billie Joe looking like a retard in his picture.

...You mean he doesn't always look like that?

I like Marilyn Manson but to be fair, he isn't the first rock star to use make up. I will admit that some newer bands do emulate his look a bit too closely. Marilyn Manson is half right in this case!

Anyway, Manson always says hilarious things. I remember when he got his fourth Kerrang! award and said that his house will look "less offensive" (the award that is given is simply a gold 'K').

I'm sorry, but look who's talking Manson? His idea for "Mechanial Animals" was obviously taken from Jones' 1981 album, Nightclubbing.

Marilyn Manson is hardly original anyway. Not when it comes to the music, nor the appearance.

Why anyone would choose to copy Marilyn Manson is beyond me.

Well, Manson IS God, so it's impossible for a lot of people to not copy him...

Agreed. I look at the man as an attention whore to the max. We can all tell who rebelled as a child. And he's carrying it into his adulthood.

Manson's a jackass. An extremely scary jackass.

He stole W.A.S.P.s slaughtering the pig on stage. That pisses me off:mad2:

With all this "Band X ripped off Band Y" thing, something my dad told me once comes to mind:

"If you really think about it, all rock bands are pretty much ripping off The Beatles."

In other words, yeah, a lot of bands of all genres do tend to build off eachother. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you aren't a carbon copy of another band.

I can't personally recall The Beatles ever sacrificing animals on-stage.

Musical roots, he meant.

And The Beatles are just ripping off everyone before them if you think about it like that. There is never one sole originator of something. Everything new is just a slightly tweaked version of something older.

Well, he looked like that through pretty much his entire career.
But he does look particularly dopey there.

Erm... no, not really. He doesn't look anything like that. He really looks more like old sci-fi artwork from the 60s. And because he's not copyin a particular image, he's not copying he's 'taking inspiration from'.

Marilyn Manson is pretty original, and, by and large, those who say he isn't are dull, drab, conformist and ignorant, and want to deny any sort of non-MTV approved style is orignal, or good.
Marilyn Manson is a bright streak of colour in a grey world .(Ironic, as it's the 'greys' who wear colourful clothes... I need to take some medication, don't I?)

See, here's the funny thing. Marilyn Manson takes a lot of inspiration from other people, his own heroes. He said himself that Mechanical Animals may have been seen of ripping such people off, in a few areas of it, but it wasn't. Certain parts of the album were mean to be referances to these people. And those who called it a rip-off, weren't looking deeply into it.
Besides, if that one picture was unoriginal (which I can't see it being) it wasn't to the hideous extent of the people he talked about. He didn't copy the outfit, he had a lovely one of his own. And suchs like that.
So... there you go.

You've got a point, but by MTV I didn't literally mean the channel, I meant idiotic pop-culture. And, if you look at pop-culture, Mr.Manson is generally regarded as a total freak.

Manson has said many times that his look/musical message are for art/business only, not his own personal belief. It's not meant to "rebel". :P

Agreed. I also agree with Emerald Aeris. Music is a business where attention is what you need to go anywhere, and he knows his business very well.

I find that very hard to believe. That's like saying "I smoke cigarettes only for the cancer." When obvioulsy one goes for the nicotine.. It's his lifestyle. I'm almost positive he carries that goth fad around all the time. Not just when he's on stage.

Goth fad? Since when was he goth? Since when was, what, more than ten years just a fad? Do you seriously believe he dresses himself in the leather thong and all (or other such strange costumes) on all occasions? Even his everyday attire is a little odd, yes, but that doesn't really mean much. He isn't a bad guy for it.
And the weird stuff he pulls off on stage is for the show. He's a good showman.
