members should be able to change their usernames, regardless of contacting an administrator. of course, i've already spent half of the six-month wait. i've drifted so much from the username i have now...

EDIT: i am willing to back down from posting a thread like this again if the "proposal" cannot be met. i work around various aliases, but hush - i'm not involved in anything to be suspicious of...:shifty: :fpninja:

...well, then that's where the "Formerly: [Insert Name Here]" kicks in :p . besides, it's not like someone is going to change their name every month, xD. i don't know why that's there either. perhaps Staff is running a "Big Brother" regime. more power to the people...

yeah it would be a total disaster if everyone could change their screen names at will.

If one attempts to change his or her username, he or she is informed that another change cannot be made for six months, and are asked if he or she wants to continue. The system as currently construed seems fair to me, really.

Maybe we might be able to trust you to fill in the Formerly field, but there's no way we would be able to trust everyone to do so and then there would be total chaos on a board this size if people were allowed to change their name at will.

Yes, some people would change their names every month given a chance. Some even more so than that. Every member knows they will have to wait six months before they can change their names again, which is why they should be sure about it before they do and if they don't ,then they'll just have to wait it out. There is just too much confusion when people start to change their name on a whim.

The Formerly field is there so that we know who people are and who we have to watch. Can't very well warn a person one day and then we suddenly just can't find them anymore when they decide to change their name because they've been warned.

Yes, Staff is Big Brother. You expect a large site such as this to run smoothly without a Big Brother regime? Only in a perfect world. :)

Not just the Formerly field that users have in their profile that only admins can change and everyone can see, but there's more fields in there too which you guys can't see, only staff, not even for your own profile :monster:

I remember when eestlinc was tsunami bren but then that tsunami happened and he had to change his name because the tsunami tried to sue EoFF. True story.

The name-change system is fine how it is, although I wouldn't object if the length of time was lowered back to three months. Not that it matters because I'll never change my name anyway because I am a very boring person.

My SN hasn't been changed yet with my consent. It's been entirely nonconsensual name changing.

I have to say, this is probably my weirdest name change yet.

It's just another one of his incandescent nonsequiters.

See, Kishi? I told you I'd try to fit it in to conversation today.

Staff is so meticulous i never had to fill in the "Formerly: [Insert Name Here]" field. unless you are trying to say - it will become rather an "option" to fill it out once you allow members to change their username and some wouldn't do it at all.

anyways...until 3 months later, xD...
