You might need a BS player....What program do you use to play the movie anyway?

Google for a program named VobSub. This will enable you to use the subtitle file with the movie.

I just put them in the same folder with no other crap and it works just fine unless it's a srt file.

I kind of didn't do it the easy way. I was having problems with the subs not opening so I found an encoder that would lay the subtitle file right over top of the video. The result, a kickass movie with the subs built-in. I then took and encoded that to DVD format and danced like a monkey with a banana. :)

Baloki says:

...get VLC player which has a subtitle option built in and doesn't consume ram massivly, also it plays the video as well ^_^

To get the VLC player, you need to go to http://www.videolan.org and download it from there. Another thing, I've found that the subtitle option in VLC isn't that reliable.

vobsub is old.

Get CCCP (see my sig link), it'll install vsfilter, which is effectively a more up to date version of vobsub, and then use Media Player Classic or ZoomPlayer to play the video (both also included :D )

In that case, look into VirtualDub. http://www.virtualdub.org/ It's what I used. Took about 4 hours with a 2.6 Ghz Intel P4. Video encoding is crazy so I hope you have a beast.
