It is from a Brazilian website, and as it would be pretty hard to understand the whole article, so I preferred to show the picture (scanned from Shonen Jump) instead. If by any chance you'd like to take a look at the article in which the picture was attached, just let me know and I'll post the URL.

Anyway, what's written in the news is that Valkyrie Profile Silmeria will be a prequel to VP, following the story of Silmeria, Lenneth's younger sister. It will be released for the PS2 next year in Japan.

While the screens are real or not, it is not for me to judge, but I can guarantee that the website from which the picture was taken from is highly reliable.

It's be nice if it had a similar sort of battle system to the first one :p

And they got Sakuraba for the music too, and do their usual remix-some-star-ocean-tracks for bonus dungeons stuff :p

EDIT: Also, it would seem that Square-Enix is releasing a remake of the original Valkyrie Profile for the PSP, dubbed "Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth".

It's supposedly supposed to have a 3D cutscene which links it to the new prequel.

Square Enix today did not only officially confirm Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, but also announced plans to bring the original game to PlayStation Portable next year.
The company will release first details about the PlayStation 2-based Valkyrie Profile 2 via the game's official website which is scheduled to go online next week, on December 12th.

The PlayStation Portable-based Valkyrie Profile Lenneth is a remake of the 1999 PlayStation classic featuring new movie sequences to create a better connection to Valkyrie Profile 2.

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth will be released in Japan on March 2nd for 4,800 yen ($39.70 USD), while Valkyrie Profile 2 Silmeria will be available sometime next year.

As soon as I saw this back on the 12th, I wet my pants.

I won't tell you if it was urine or something else, but just know they were moistened.

I'm looking forward to this game, ALMOST as much as Seiken Densetsu IV, but not quite... If SDIV is anything like SDIII, it will be the best game ever.

Anyway, I sure hope they get this game in english, and fast. Otherwise, I will have to nuke Japan.

Well, a returning character has been announced. That is, not including Silmeria.

As previously reported, Silmeria takes place a few hundred years before the original Valkyrie Profile. The player takes the role of two characters named Silmeria and Alisha, who exist together in the same body. Silmeria is the younger sister of Lenneth (the main character in the original Valkyrie Profile), and Alisha is the princess of the lost city of Dipan. The trailer shown at the event introduced two additional characters: Rufus, an archer who's said to have an "imprisoned soul," and Lezard, a sorcerer who also appeared in the original Valkyrie Profile.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6141529.html

Yes, Lezard Valeth returns, which also creates more questions concerning his character. That is to say, can it be possible that it's a past incarnation of Lezard, or has he found a way to use the Philosopher's Stone to travel through time? If the latter, why? So many questions, but more Lezard is never a bad thing.

Less importantly, there've been a few new screenshots.

Screen One (http://www.tri-ace.co.jp/product/vp2/img/img_image01_01.jpg)
Screen Two (http://www.tri-ace.co.jp/product/vp2/img/img_image02_01.jpg)
Screen Three (http://www.tri-ace.co.jp/product/vp2/img/img_image03_01.jpg)
Screen Four (http://img5.picsplace.to/img5/15/untitled_179.jpg)
Screen Five (http://img5.picsplace.to/img5/15/36973_2.jpg)
Screen Six (http://img5.picsplace.to/img5/15/36773.jpg)
Screen Seven (http://img5.picsplace.to/img5/15/36773_2.jpg)
Screen Eight (http://img5.picsplace.to/img5/15/36773_3.jpg)

It's safe to assume that the crystals which played a small part in the original Valkyrie Profile's gameplay, as well as a similar battle system will be returning.

I have no doubt this game will be amazing.

EDIT: Looks as though I overlooked Kishi's post in my haste. The screenshots are there, as well.

Sorry for the double post, but I'm sure everyone would miss new updates if I just editted my last post! Here are some new battle details released- building upon the system that was featured in Valkyrie Profile! (found it at www.forthereunion.com)

[The upcoming sequel to the cult classic, Valkyrie Profile, has some interesting twists to throw on the battle system that mirrors the system in the first game. While it is not a complete copy of the original system there will be some similarities. There will be more drastic changes to the system though.

AP: AP stands for attack points. They work much like the system in the Front Mission. In order to take action you must have attack points to consume and winning a battle will replenish your AP.

New Attacks: Unlike in the first Valkyrie Profile game you will now be able to throw enemies into the air and then attack them while in the air using mid-air combos. Hitting the enemy once will bring forth a special item that will replenish your AP, the number of times you hit the enemy in the air before it hits the ground will reflect the amount of this special item that will be dropped.

Leader Assault: Leader assault is somewhat like it sounds. Enemies will be grouped together and sometimes be in control of a leader. If you kill the leader you win the battle. Pretty simple no?

Extend Gauge: Basically during a battle a set of dots will appear on the right side of the screen. That is your gauge. The dots will slowly disappear during the battle and winning the battle with dots still present will result in extra experience. Thus the fast you win a battle the more potential experience you can get.

I dunno how effective Leader Assaults will be...almost all of the "bosses" of the groups sat in the back, untouchable! As well, I hope the AP system is more fun and innovative than tedius.

Sounds hopeful for the impatient gamer, such as I.

Haha, I have passed on that information 3 times, and all 3 times, someone has commented on that one paragraph.

True, but you're not actively throwing them into the air (more like juggling with your weapons). Perhaps this will build upon this ability.

>>> I wasnt thinking about doing it with the weapons, "Shadow Servant" and I think "Fire Storm" has this throwing effect in your opponents, and it worked wonders for me..

And in case nobody looked at the glaring obvious images and party names, a mage named Lezard is confirmed to be in the game. Incarnate or real deal? Who knows?

EDIT: And the woman in the picture circled above is not Hrist- but a new character.

Black Mage
03-20-2006, 06:20 AM
Loki? Do you mean Hrist?

Llewyn, Arngrim and Mystina worked with Hrist in the decapitation of Barbarossa in the past.

Which begs the question, why is Arngrim in the same party as the daughter of the man he had a hand in murdering. Perhaps he has a change of heart, or switches sides. I don't know about that, though, for if that were the case, I don't think Brahms would have found it ironic when Arngrim faces off against Hrist in Valkyrie Profile.

Ah well, not much we can do but speculate at this point.

Black Mage
03-21-2006, 03:23 AM
Hm, I don't remember that. I guess I'll have to play through it again some time.

No problem. I was actually talking about Barbarossa, the King of Dipan. In that screenshot from Silmeria, Arngrim is in Alicia's party, and Alicia is the princess of Dipan, and as such, Barbarossa's daughter. Since it was Hrist and her party who carried out Barbarossa's beheading, I find it strange that Arngrim would be on the same side as Alicia, who I would imagine harbors some sort of anger towards those who off'd her father.

Who knows though. Perhaps she doesn't have any ill will towards his murders, I don't really know. All speculation.

Pretty much a courtesy post, but Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria's been out for a couple of weeks now. Sorry it's taken me so long to post, but I've been avoiding any and all forums which may have some sort of unmarked spoilers for the game until I had completed it.

I've finished the main story, and am about a quarter through the Seraphic Gate. I won't get into a long post about my impressions of it or anything, but I really enjoyed it. I was most certainly happy with how the game turned out, though there are some weaknesses here and there.

Last I had heard, the game is slated for an English release on September 26th, which really isn't all that far away now.

Zeromus_X
07-08-2006, 09:23 PM
Okay, I've been dying to know this, if you don't mind me asking, it has nothing to do with the story:

- Does Mission to the Deep Space sound awesome?

-Besides Gabriel and Iseria Queen, what other optional tri-Ace bosses are there?

I can't wait for it to be released! (Here, anyway.)

Necronopticous

That cover art is beautiful.

Black Mage
07-08-2006, 09:45 PM
-Mission to Deep Space. It actually sounds a lot different this time around. I do like it though, and it definitely goes with the rest of the game's music (Which I also really enjoyed.)

-As for the optional bosses, I've really only run into two so far, and one was Gabriel Celesta. The other was Dirna Hamilton. She's from that sidequest on Gemnity in the battle arena in Star Ocean 3 I believe. I'm sure you'd probably remember better than I would. :-)
And Iseria was listed in the credits, as Iseria and not Ethereal strangely enough.

I'll update on the other bosses as I go through the gate.

And while that cover art is nice, the Artifact Box came with a different one to replace it with, which I thought looked nicer. I hope they choose the alternate one for the English release.

I have another question, sorry to bug 'ya.

- Was the game difficult? I loved the first game to death, but it was really easy. (Battle-wise, some of those puzzles made me throw my controller at the television set.*)

*Don't get me started on those damn fireballs

Black Mage
07-08-2006, 10:20 PM
It's no bother at all.

The game's difficulty was a pleasant surprise. Many of the battles were very difficult. I'd definitely say the difficulty was much higher than that of the original. For one thing, Guts still exists, but it's not the game-breaking skill it used to be. And, so far as I've been able to find, Auto-Item no longer exists. So no worries there.

But many of the battles are very difficult, of course if you're not over leveled. I had to sit down and spend some time leveling up in order to continue, and other times I had to fight against bosses repeatedly before I was able to win.

As for puzzles, I didn't find anything too difficult. There is one which would have been tough to do without any knowledge of Japanese, as you had to put certain things in certain places, but that won't be a problem with the English release.

All in all, I'd say it had a challenging difficulty, but never to the point of infuriating frustration.

Yeah there are a few. I'm not sure if you want me to list them or not, so I'll put them in a different box. The returning Towns and Dungeons are in the next spoiler box.

Start of List
Dungeons:
-Castle Dipan/Lost City of Dipan
-The Forest of Spirits
-Palace of the Dragon
-Tower of Lezard Valeth
-Seraphic Gate

Towns:
-Coriander
-Crell Monferaigne
-Villnore
-Solde (Kind of. It was a dungeon, Solde Catacombs in the original)
-Dipan

I don't think I missed any, but I'm going from memory so it's possible.

Alright, I managed to complete the Seraphic Gate a few days ago ( And I can't believe that it expects you to play through it 9 more times to get the Angel Slayer. The final boss was merciless enough on first time through, and it gets more difficult each time you clear it. It seems impossible!) and here is a list of the Seraphic Gate's bosses:

-Dirna Hamilton
-Gabriel Celesta
-Odin
-Lezard Valeth
-Freya (Frei/Fray)
-Iseria Queen
-Serious Dirna Hamilton

There are also dog houses along the way, and each time you visit one you get to see a scene from the game recreated by Dog (Inu) versions of the characters. They include Alicia, Hrist, Rufus, Brahms, Odin, Freya, Arngrim, Lenneth, Silmeria, and Lezard.

It would also appear as though an unconfirmed English Box Art has popped up for Silmeria.

Black Mage

To answer your question, Zeromus:

I had a pretty difficult time with Freya, Iseria Queen, but especially Serious Dirna.

The first fight with Dirna wasn't too bad, nor was Gabriel Celesta, Odin, or Lezard.

Freya only took me two tries, but the it was on the second that I learned the power of certain skills that were essential and made fighting a lot easier.

Iseria wiped me out when I was in the low 80's the first time I fought her, but I then maxed out and she wasn't much of a problem. Serious Dirna, dozens of attempts, and I really only beat her due to luck.

Of course, there's a particular sealed stone that makes all of the fights much easier, but is a ridiculous cost that I couldn't afford. I'm sure it's much easier if you have that stone.
