Is there some sort of HTML code that can allow each thread to refresh every 30 seconds or something, that way the user can see new posts in case a new subject or something gets up?

Thoughts?

It's called the refresh button

That'd be extremely annoying when you're trying to read the damn thing. Can't you just hit the refresh button after you've finished reading or before you post anyway?

EDIT: I didn't refresh before I posted and Old Manus caught me out! Do as I say, not as I do.
EDIT2: Although we posted at the same time and therefore Hawkey3's new thing wouldn't have prevented the intense humiliation and embarassment I am suffering from.

We never speak of Hawkey3, ever.

It's called going outside, enjoying life, and coming back to see if there are any new posts.

Yams, have you ever been outside?

Now thats a statement that could contradict itself

Maybe set a variable in the profile settings for an amount of time for a refresh rate. For those of us that like it as it is, set it to null :D

It would be annoying. Is it ever so hard to simply press F5 or click the refresh button as Psy and Old Manus suggested? :rolleyes2

It wouldn't be hard to add that little meta refresh to every page on the site, but no :p

Imagine what that would do to the poor souls who still use dial-up. Loading the whole page again, with one new post? Bah, humbug.

Actually, theoretically the Jelsoft people could use the same kind of new code that puts your new post on the same page without reloading it to check for new posts in a thread after a specified interval and insert them if they were found, so it wouldn't reload the whole page at all. But don't expect me to bother doing all that :skull::skull::skull::skull: :monster:

You'd still have to load a massive amount of content, especially if it's an active thread like the Ciddies, where people are constantly posting/editing. It would be very annoying, not to mention taxing on the database. F5 is about two inches away from the letters on a keyboard, so I don't see a big problem here.

I click the link back to the forum and click the link to the thread again, because I don't trust the refresh button.

That was you? I thought that was something they added to vB 3.5.x. :p

No, I got annoyed by the fact the whole thing was clickable except the thread title itself, especially when I wanted to refresh :p
