my theory is that the roman numerals will become too long and unappealing, XIII would be shaky if it weren't for Red XIII to make it look cool. then they'll get away with it going back to 3 digits, XIV, XV, XVI, but stuff like XVII is really up there. i think SquareWatever will start displaying the numbers in a different way.

Final Fantasy Zero = an idea of mine, it's neat no?

So close, yet so far away:]

The neat thing about roman numerals is that by the time we get to fifty (L) it'll go back down again.

I've heard in the past that the series would stop after XIII. Not sure but I read it somewhere several years ago. I cried myself to sleep for nights but, now I could give two /xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gifs. I almost want the series to end. They just keep getting worse :(

I tried to make a comic called ff0 but I was to lazy to finish it.

Roman numerals might also get boring I suppose.

no that would be XLVIII

and i think that even if the numbers get extremely long, such as:
Final Fantasy XXXVIII

that would still look cooler than:
Final Fantasy 38

it just doesnt have the right feel.

They'll probably get to the FINAL fantasy game before they get up there.

they probably won't get that high before they think of something else anyway, so I don't think we'll need to worry too much.

They'll start putting unnecessary sub-titles on before they reach that point, like...

Final Fantasy - The Wrath of Kahn

Or...

Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within

And..

Final Fantasy - Army of Darkenss

Yknow, like that?

Final Fantasy - The Wrath of Kahn
Hmm, that might be worth playing, quickly followed by

Final Fantasy - The Search for Spock

but if they ever make

Final Fantasy - The Return of the Jedi

I might never play another FF ever again

I don't really care what happens with the name of the games or anything, so long as they're still good.

i think maybe number XIX (20, i think) should be the last of the roman numerals - but absolutely NOT the series...

Slade

that would be 19
20 would be XX

If you have a smaller number before a larger number, it subtracts
IV is 4 IX is 9
XIX is 19
XL is 40
XLIV is 44

stuff like that

Agreed Final Fantasy is the longest running RPG series ever and I think at some point in time probably 14-16 it will come to an end. RPG's simply are not the norm anymore in Gaming and if what I have seen released lately (Apart from REMAKES) is any indication Fewer and Fewer RPG's will be seen in upcoming years. There is simply more money-making potention in FPS and other gaming types. Most people today don't either have or want to spend the time on an RPG.

For some reason I must have had the two release dates flipped "MYBAD!!" Any how it has had the most different games released as far as I know and is ONE OF the longest running RPG "franchises"

no kidding. i heard the Dragon Quest series is the #1 game in japan and not Final Fantasy. or RPG atleast. and while Japan's electronic heart still beats, what they produce to the planet won't die for a while.

Dragon Quest is a LOT more popular in Japan. Seriously.

Dragon Quest has been given an award for contributing toward Japanese culture
Dragon Quest games are only allowed to be released on weekends and holidays by law, because otherwise everybody cuts school/doesn't go to work to get the new game.
The word for the healing spell "Hoimi" is completely made up, but it has been adopted into the Japnese dictionary.
If a child skins his knee in a playground, other children will point and say "HOIMI!" I wish I was making that up.
The name Dragon Quest itself is frequently used by ignorant parents to refer to any RPG.

Personally I just like the way Roman numerals look better than Phonecian numbers (the numbers we use). It's just an aesthetic preference though. Also, I'd like to point out that the Romans did NOT use the number IV for 4. They used IIII to mean 4. This has been somewhat retconned by people who like shorter numbers. :)
