View Full Version : Is Fog a better version of Mute?

NES - Final Fantasy 2

I never really understood the true effects of Fog.
It obviously "dumbfounds an enemy", but what does it really mean?
Could anyone define this?

Pretty sure it lowers enemy accuracy.

Alright, but I find it strange that this very FF2 Shrine mentions the similarity between Mute and Fog. :confused:

You should have specified the game. FFII Fog "inflicts amnesia on the target's mind."

It implies what one would probably assume--that something (in this case, spells) can't be remembered. If Fog is used successfully against the party, afflicted characters will be unable to use magic, and this effect will last even after the battle ends. Regarding use against enemies, the functionality is almost identical to Mute, as the enemies won't actually survive beyond the battle anyway.

Fog and Mute are near identical, except that Mute would go away after some rounds/after battle while Fog must be cured in order to go away, Making Mute worthless and Fog the better choice,

Mute is more accurate than Fog. Also Mute is considered a "Body" spell whilst "Fog" is considered a "Mind" spell, meaning that if an enemy has a resistance to that "element" the other spell can be used instead for a better chance of striking.
