k so basically, using various refining abilities you make allsorts. you can turn 50 pheonix downs into a mega-pheonix using med level up. Then using tool refine you can make a pheonix pinion from three mega pheonix's. From there you can use gf ability item refine to make one pheonix spirit from TWENTY pheonix pinions. So at 375gil per pheonix down this is going to cost well over a million gil. Geeze wtf does pheonix spirit do????? (i have a fairly good idea actually)

so what can you make and which items are worth making? i just made 1000 needles which teaches return damage to a GF. is that any good?

edit: so a GF learns the revive ability after wasting all those pheonix downs. well that was crap. alexander already has the revive ability. and i dont plan on dying so that doesnt really help me :(

Try this one:
GF-Abil Med Ref
Giant's Ring x10 = 1 Gaea's Ring
Power Wrist x10 = 1 Hyper Wrist
Vit-J Scrolls x10 = 1 Orihalcon
Orihalcon x10 = 1 Adamantine
Hypno Crown x10 = 1 Royal Crown
Force Armlet x10 = 1 Magic Armlet
1 Dark Matter = 1 Luck-J Scroll
1 Shaman Stone = 1 Rosetta Stone

Tool Ref:
Curse Spike x100 = 1 Dark Matter
1 Dark Matter = 1 Shaman Stone

Forbid Med Ref:
1 Gaea's Ring = 1 HP Up
Hyper Wrist x10 = 1 Str Up
Adamantine x5 = 1 Vit Up
Royal Crown x10 = 1 Mag Up
Magic Armlet x10 = 1 Spr Up
1 Hundred Needles = 1 Spd Up
1 Luck-J Scroll = 1 Luck Up
Dark Matter x10 = 1 Holy War-Trial (not so sure, never tried it cause heck go on collect 10 freaking Dark Matters!?!)

Phoenix Spirit = Revive
Bomb Spirit = Kamikaze
Hungry Cookpot = Devour
Knights Code = Defend
Monk's Code = Counter

Anyway just go to the information on your menu and select Abilities->Menu Abilities and behold all the known refinements. And uh Return Damage is basically like counterattack only it returns 1/10 the damage whether attack or magic

woot time for some more "fun" :p so what about the ribbon command? thats what i really want tbh.

so lets see, Having drain junctioned to my sword and equiping return damage and counter attack would make for a good healing technique. must try this and find out how effective it is :)

You need a PocketStation for Ribbon. What's Return Damage?

i turned 100 "cactus thorns" into "1000 needles" it teaches the "return damage" ability to a GF. i havnt used it yet, but if it only returns 10% of the taken damage then i wouldnt think it that goo.

hmmmmm pocket station you say??? im thinking find my gameshark tbh

Like an Action Replay, but made by a different company.

I think it will only affect the counter attack ability (the drain to ststus attack) but it won't work against most monsters (specifically Blue Dragons). Maybe I should try using Return Damage to Omega (you know when he uses Terra Break) and see what happens. :rolleyes2

geesuz, time to use my outdated gameshark and see for myself.

I dont have a pocketstation and I never really use gameshark, what does ribbon do? It cant be an equipment, if its a command, what does it do? protect party members from status ailments for 3 turns?

its an ability that when equiped protects from all status problems. it kinda negates the need for status defense but then you can use spells like death without worrying you'll get hit with instant kill attacks

If FFVIII Ribbon is anything like it is in FFVII and FFX then it won't protect against Death.

The Ribbon Ability in FF VIII protect you from Death too.

actually true, but it goes for all your status spells. if you like to beserk things but dont want to be beserked yourself, you can use your beserk spells willy nilly and not have to worry about the % going up that you'll get beserked. Ribbons work well if your character doesnt have status protect X4

The Ribbon Ability in FF VIII protect you from Death too.

yeah that would make sense seeing as you can junction to protect from death as a status defense

Okay Christmas/Unknown, I'll take your word for it. I can't actually get Ribbon to check for myself.

Anyway, just get a emulator and download a save file with Ribbon and try it out.

I'll see if there's a code floating around for my cheat system. I don't fancy using an emulator.
