View Full Version : Why is Kimahri so useless?

I read about people hating Kimahri saying he is useless and whatnot. What makes him so useless? I mean if you limit him to his grid, then yah, but you can emulate him into any other caracter basically, and his Overdirves can be very devestating.

So what are your specific reasons?

He has no identity of his own to begin with, he is merely a copy of one of the other characters. I know that if you complete the SG all the characters are the same, but some players have no motivation to do so for Kimahri due to his ambiguity.

Stone Breath and Nova are the only useful Rages he has, but I like to abuse Self Destruct.

Nobody likes him. And Self Destruct is fun! xD

I like Kimahri. He had potential to be such a good character, but he was overshadowed by others. I mean.. whats not to like? He's a good gaurdian, he takes his job seriously, in his Tribe he's a underdog who fights his way back up to earn respect.

There's always the one character that seems to get disliked in that way, usually the non human ones, ie, Quina and Cait Sith.. whom I both happen to love as well.

I like the noise he makes before he blows himself up, he sounds so emo! And give him more that 9999 HP, and BHPL, Self destruct is the Roxx0rz

Sain Cai

How does Self-Destruct work, does it deal damage = to Kimahris? I dont really play other characters besides Tidus, Wakka, Yuna, and Rikku.

TheSpoonyBard
12-14-2005, 12:45 AM
Damage = Kimahri's Max HP * 3

Works very nicely with BHPL and BDL.

Azure, I think Quina and Cait Sith are great. In my opinion the best non-human character is either Red XIII or Freya.

Egh i liked kihmari alot actually....hes my favorite character...but any hoot self destruct was cool but for some reason i had a thing for jump and thrust kick....i love blue mages...what can i say? :D

TheSpoonyBard
12-14-2005, 01:41 AM
Trust Kick is useless as it never ejects the enemy from battle, despite what the information may say, and its got an Attack Power of just 1 more than Jump. Seed Cannon is just as good as Thrust Kick.

By the way, it is possible to get a Critical Hit with Kimahri's Self-Destruct, which is very nice against a fiend with huge HP.

Monol
12-14-2005, 02:24 AM
Im not saying they're useful....just looked cool  (should have been more specific) and a critical on self destruct eh? Well if that isnt enough to get your blood pumping for some kamikaze mayhem then i dont know what is (besides messing around with some grenades.....in the game that is) awsome tip by the way

I guess most people just see Kimari as useless because you generally have to spend more time leveling, then you do with any other character, to get him to the same level of proformance as the other characters.

In my game he actually wound up being as strong as Auron early on, and his HP was almost as high.

Khimari not useless. Khimari just initially positioned poorly in sphere grid.

...

Khimari sad.

I don’t see why people see the fact that he’s basically “a clone of another character” as a bad thing. Having two Aurons makes the game so much easier…

Because he's never called in, you don't NEED him... like you need Lulu or Wakka... Yuna and Rikku aren't called in a lot either, but from time to time, You'll need Yuna's summoning technique for the bitchy enemies and Rikku can always get those treasure chests...

Kimahri can be whatever you want him to really, and its you who will make him useless. It's useful for him to learn the steal technique, as when you're fighting the ronso on Mt Gagazet, you can steal Lvl 3 key spheres from them.
Personaly, Kimahri was one of my best characters.

Actually, for me, Khimari isn't useless at all. I use him as a replacement Tidus because he's so close to his part of the grid.

And yes, I refuse to ever use Tidus in battle unless I'm forced to.

And near the end of the game, there's really only three useful characters - Yuna, Rikku, and Auron. And that's because they're the only three for whom you can acquire their celestial weapons without throwing your controller at the wall and watching all the pretty plastic pieces fly all over the room.

in my party, Kimahri has the highest stats for HP/Str and perhaps more where that came from. but by this time, everyone in the party is a master attacker and mage. his Overdrives, i find useful for knocking off multiple enemies (Fire Breath, Self-Destruct, Nova, etc). there should be more 12 enemy skills that can be learned...

6 Wakka
7 Lulu
2)I got tidus's cadalborg at full power...I almost through my control through the TV but I got it
3)captruing monsters is making me want to sell my capture weapons
4)I like non-human character's normally *hence name* expect Cait sith but that's cause he's a dirty traitor(2 times over)
okay I think that's it oh right I have never used Kimhari's self destruct espically not after I got nova

its you who will make him uselessOwned.

Kimahri is anoying fucker, but, I must admit he is probably my strongest charachter. He is 2 times faster then Tidus, and stronger than Auron. I sent him down Tidus path, then he made a jump to Aurons path, and it just so happens Tidus and Aurons paths meat at the middle of Tidus and the end of Auron's, yay strength +4!

EDIT: Kimahri is pretty much the 'Red Mage' of FFX.

Kimarhi is best if you train him as a theivin' items using white mage.

Use, steal, then head right in the middle range white magery. A*head* of yuna.

means you get dispel with evrae and even more holy against yunalesca, *and* he's already got steal for biran and yenke:]

I personally think Kimahri is an O.K. character, not too shabby. He's my "red mage" of my party, since I Lulu-cloned him. On my old FFX Save file he was a blue mage, I Rikku-cloned him :P. So yeah, it's always good to have an extra mage

Cloud Valentine
12-19-2005, 09:37 PM
The problem with Kimahri is he's generally reffered to as the 'can be anyone but not quite as good' character. Saying he's more versatile is a bit of a stretch, because while early on he has an open route to any character, when you start getting special spheres almost any charcter can do that. His overdrives weren't amazing either (nova always did sucky damage for me for some odd reason), and his celestial weapon was an pain to get (I'd say his was the most annoying, followed by Tidus then Lulu).

I wouldn't call Kimahri useless, but he's easily overshadowed by the more specialised characters, and he takes more work to make him effective, which is a turn off for some people.

12-19-2005, 09:58 PM
Well, when you train him as a white mage thief, he's better by way of having spells yuna does not :]

Kimahri is useful for one very important purpose: fighting Biran and Yenke, both of whom hold Lv. 3 Key Spheres for the stealing. Train him as a Thief, and he will be able to perform Luck on himself about ten times and then steal from Biran 5 times and Yenke 5 times. Combine this with your ability to have a Master Thief armor at this point, and you can steal 20 Lv. 3 Key Spheres, which is enough to open every single Lv. 3 Lock on the sphere grid (if not enough then close to enough). And for this reason, he is more than worth the training, as you will have to either fight an endless supply of Defender Zs or wait until you can have access to the Omega Ruins to bribe a Demonolith. I personally don't like doing either of those.

Kimahri is simply useless cause he isnt an all-around chracter, he is just worthless.

Nanaki_XIII
12-20-2005, 12:39 AM
ISN'T an all-around character? He's the eaiest character to round with and as already mentioned if you steal from brian and yenke you can get a nice amount of Lv.3 key spheres and traning him as a white mage faster than yuna will allow you to keep cure cura curaga reflect, protect, shell, possibly auto-life and holy you're null spells and of course pray, almost all his wepaons bear piercing making him good agaisnt armored fiends before Auron learns Armor break and his lancet makes him an early long ranger with waka and lulu(this group made sin's fin very easy)

rubah
12-20-2005, 01:35 AM
You wouldn't have Cure or teh null spells with kimarhi as a white mage, because you'd enter in the middle of the white mage grid, around Protect, Reflect, and the like.

Most importantly though, Dispel.

If you have dispel, then evrae is *so* easy it's ridiculous.

a red mage is usually someone who can cast up to mid level white and black magic(sometimes high level.) and they also hold swords which makes them good but not great at nearly everything.

Kimahri is awesome. But only if you let him go into the right person's grid like Wakka, then Auron, then Tidus.

Ilyn
12-27-2005, 05:08 PM
Kimah is very useful. I am utterly confused by people who say it's a waste to train him at all. Just copy your favorite character, and voila! I'd go with the whm/thief, black mage, or wakka/auron setup, personally... all three have their advantages. At one point, Kimahri was dealing better damage than Lulu with his elemental spells - I got a +20% mag Halberd early on + MP boosting armor; it really, really helps.

impecable logic 4evarisha...

i find him useless because his overdrives are very weak compared to other overdrives...

as well as this because of the sphere grid system all characters can do everything and his ability to do that slightly sooner isnt enough to overrule the fact that he is a ginormous talking blue cat with a broken horn and broken english...

He's not useless if you let him take on 3 grids at once, to do that whenever you get a return sphere use it for kimahri and by the time that he fights Yenkse and Biran he'll know steal, use, Fira,Blaizzara,Thundara,Watera, Bio, Demi, Dark Attack, Silence Attack, Cheer, Flee, and Haste. You see the ultimate warrior.
