I found this picture, titled "Mash Rene Figaro" on a Yoshifaka Amano artwork site. Wha? Sabin with a gun or something?

And I know I spelled his name wrong. It was automodded.

No, Sabin/Mash never had a gun. That's probably just concept art to get off on how macho he really is. That makes me think of a much tougher Sabin character.

What I wanna know is who that is behind him in the background. Better not be Edgar.:mad: *is Edgar fangirl*

That picture is from a compilation of original Mash conceptual artwork. It's a scan from Yos</>hitaka Amano's "JAPAN" Final Fantasy V and VI anthology artbook. Here is a picture of it.

There are constantly concepts in original artwork that don't make it into the final game character, that's why it's called conceptual artwork.

I don't think Amano has any illusions about some of the stuff he draws actually getting into the games. He's just out to amuse himself.

Mash is a terrible name. He wouldn't be my favourite FF character if I had to call him Mash.

Did you know when he worked for the very first Final Fantasy he didn't think he would even get paid? Or so interviews go. Heh.

There's other pictures of Sabin that don't resemble the final design. There's one of him with a beard. It just opens the door for all kinds of "kung-fu grip" jokes.

Meaning early on in the game he kicks ass and later on completely rests on his laurels while raking in gil for badly pretending to be a cowboy? You do raise a good point.
