Is it easy to travel to and from Australia from New Zealand? I'm specifically talking about all the documentation crap, like getting a visa and whatnot. Is the border relatively easy to pass through (US/Canada) or stiff as hell (US/Mexico)?

Considering that the border is a sea, I'd say it's like neither of those things.

I never had any trouble going to Australia from NZ. Why do you ask anyway?

I don't think you need a visa. Just a passport I think. I stopped over in New Zealand when going from Australia to America, and I don't have a visa. Anyway, why go to New Zeland when you can come to Australia?

I'm going to Australia from New Zealand next April. I've never done it before so I have no clue. It took ages for me to get my passport organized though if thats what you mean.

As long as you have a passport and a visa it is all good. I am not a citizen and I have been a few times.

When you get a NZ passport you can go to Australia whenever you want to live etc.

anyone going to big day out?

I hope to. As long as it dosn't clash with anything else planned. If so then whatever it clashed with will have to go! But seriously I'll probably forget its even on. Thats what happened last year :greenie:

I've gotta say, I didn't expect spoiler tag usage. Touché. Nice work.

Looks like I just need a travel visa, and that is easy to obtain with a US passport.

Kiwi taxi drivers don't like Aussies much. But I think it's just over-whelming love.

Note: Not worth taking advice from anyone aside from those with American passports or those within the industry, as every country has it's own deal with travel. A lot of Australians have responded, and I'm pretty sure there is free travel between the countries only if you have a New Zealand or Australian passport, so that advice goes out the window for an American.

Looks like you got it sorted out anyway, Neel. This is more for people reading over this thread and thinking of jumping on the next flight to one of the countries. :p

One should always contact the government websites of countries you are travelling to, or some kind of forum dedicated to travel.

I don't really see why the hell you would want to go to Australia if you live in New Zealand.

Been there, done that.

Since I moved to Australia plane fares within the country have gone incredibly low, don't know about to New Zeland, but once you're on the East Coast it should be pretty easy to get anywhere apart from the West xD

Great Barrier Reef.Well, NZ's got Great Barrier Island, which is only 2% less awesome.

I haven't been to Australia since one visist in 1994... but airfares have indeed come down since then.
