View Full Version : Your Game Of The Year

Seeing as this year is almost wrapped up, I'd want to know what everyone thought as there personal favourite game released this year.
Mine goes to Tekken 5 hands down, best Tekken yet. It brought more life into a series that still hadnt changed much from Tekken 2. I find it hard to imagine someone disliking Tekken as it has definately evolved into something better than before.

CoD2 did.

RE4 was the best new game I played this year. I didn't really play a whole lot of new ones, though.

I didn't even bother trying to run any new games on my computer this year. I did enjoy DoD:Source, but since it runs like crap I didn't even bother. I've been playing a lot of DS games this year. I'd say the best one has been Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.

World of Warcraft (febuary 11th for the uk), followed closely by Soul Calibur 3.

Mario Kart DS

An excellent game, and one I simply can't put down. The course design is fantastic, the handling is superb, and the difficulty level is spot on. Just when I thought Mario Kart couldn't get any better, Nintendo game along and released this beauty. The only major gripe I have with this game is that the original Koopa Troopa Beach course from the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Kart isn't included in the retro track section. 'Twas my favourite course, you see.

And that's my favourite game of 2005. Classic Nintendo goodness.

(WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2006 comes in at a close second).

F.E.A.R. was good, Shadow of the Colossus was good, Resident Evil 4 was good, We <3 Katamari was good, Devil May Cry 3 was good, Ninja Gaiden Black was good (not sure if that really counts though), Soul Calibur III was good, Dragon Quest VIII was good, Guild Wars was alright while it lasted, Battlefield 2 was good, FFIVA was good, Minish Cap was incredible.

A lot of stuff was good, but I don't know if there was any one game that completely blew everything away. That said, I think Minish Cap was the game of the year. It's Zelda so I almost have to do it. The level design was wildly original and the somewhat quirky version of Hyrule worked really well. Shadow of the Colossus gets props for being original and having the best ending ever in any video game, Battlefield 2 gets points for the awesomeness it constantly delivers, and F.E.A.R. gets points for combining two genres that really didn't seem like they would mix.

Tekken 5 has some bad voiceovers, plus, the story mode is a bit stupid.

My vote goes to..
Pokemon Emerald.

Got it for X-mas but it's the only game I remember having so much playability value.

I agree. It's so addictive. It's like crack...not that I know anything about crack.

I'm very sure that was the game deserving 2004 game of the year.

I'd go Shadow of the Colossus for the win. I haven't beat it yet, but so far I absolutely love it (though I hate the little dog/bull bosses.

Definetly Shadow of the Colossus for me. I mean there were other great games this year (Resident Evil 4, Dragon Quest VIII, among others), but for me, Shadow of the Colossus was just to great to put into words. I just beat it tonight and was left with a feeling of joy and sadness.

It's a toss up between Shadow of the Colossus and God of War for me. I'm leaning more towards God of War since it was difficult in comparison to Shadow of the Colossus when just the normal gameplay is taken into consideration, and I like challenges as long as they don't make me want to shatter the discs into multiple pieces...which it still had its moments where I got pretty pissed, but maybe that's a good thing. I find most newer games too easy to beat and unlock stuff.

Oh, Indigo Prophecy was also pretty good.

Shadow of the Colossus for a slew of reasons. The most important being that it got me back into gaming. I dropped from a serious gamer, to a casual gamer, to a gamer-not for a long time. I finally picked it up, and OMG what a masterpiece. Everything in that game is a work of art, from the way the grass moves, to how a crow sounds as you gallop past, or how you handle your horse. It was unique, and a step in the right direction for changing the way video games are supposed to be.

Honorable mention goes to my second choice, Indigo Prophecy. It was what I've always wanted: a great big interactive movie. It was thrilling beyond all belief to have so much control, to feeling so much a part of the story. The only reason this didn't get my pick is the end portion. Sure, there's multiple endings... all of which are relatively the same. If they would have worked a little more on that last hour of the game, I would also label it a masterpiece.
