Silent Hill: The Movie coming out April 21st may actually break the tradition of videogame based movies always being bad...
or at least I'd hope so... and based on what I've seen so far it looks to be in line with the dementedly creepy game series.

A Trailer

From that trailer: "Sometimes when you go to sleep, you go on a little walk... and sometimes you talk about a place... called Silent Hill..."

Sounds almost as creepy as SH2's "In my restless dreams, I see that town, Silent Hill." (arguably my favorite SH game, also my first)

At this point there isn't much to go on but some screenshots and that spooky trailer, but I for one am going to be hopeful that this turns out to be a good movie, true to the games.

Synopsis:
A woman desperate to save her dying child finds herself trapped in an alternate reality as she searches for her daughter in a dangerous world of demons.

Rose cannot accept the knowledge that her daughter Sharon is dying of a fatal disease. Over the protests of her husband, she flees with her child, intending to take the girl to a faith healer. On the way, she ends up driving through a portal in reality, which takes her to the eerie and deserted town of Silent Hill.

Sharon disappears in Silent Hill, and Rose follows what she thinks is her daughter’s silhouette all over town. It’s soon clear the town is not like any place she’s ever been. It’s inhabited by a variety of creatures and a living darkness that descends and literally transforms everything it touches. The human inhabitants—the ones who are left—are trapped and fighting a losing battle against the Darkness.

Joined by a cop named Cybil, who has been sent to bring her and Sharon back, Rose searches for her little girl while learning the history of Silent Hill and that Sharon is just a pawn in a larger game.

To save her daughter, Sharon makes a deal with a demon.

EDIT: A few things I picked up on from the trailer... I noticed a few legs in high heals dragging metal pipes, this seems reminicant of the nurse zombies from SH2.
ALSO the most major things I noticed, near the end of the trailer a large thing hits the camera with a fleshy mass or cloth or something, if you pause the trailer and look... IT'S PYRAMID HEAD!!! Seems the all time best SH monster will be appearing in the movie! It would also seem that the movie might be portraying Silent Hill as we saw it in SH2, as opposed to how it was in any other SH game... Although I would expect to see 'features' from many of the games in this movie... Still I'm soo glad Pyramid Head is gonna be in the movie! ^__^/ (I attached a screenshot I took of PH from the trailer, if thats not him I dont know what is.XD Here is a moving GIF image from the trailer, showing Pyramid Head, its bigger and better than my little image.XD (http://x12.putfile.com/12/35919174271.gif))

EDIT 2: After searching around a bit, I found this quote from Roger Avary (writer):
"I can't show you any pictures, because photography is harshly restricted -- but I can tell you with no hesitation that they are simply HUGE. Seeing the nine-foot-tall Red Pyramid wander around alongside the four-foot gray children somehow makes the mood on the set oddly joyful."

This little article (http://www.playmagazine.com/index.php?fuseaction=SiteMain.showInkPage&Ink_ID=41) talks about the trailer/website, and breaks down a little of whats seen in the trailer.
Also found a pic of the nurse's feet (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=146146). lol although its hard to make out in that pic.

If I find anymore interesting little things, I'll update for those of you interested in this movie.

(Cause of a spooky dream I had the other night, I feel so delightfully survivial horror today. XD)

Im really looking forward to this movie, but im still keeping my concerns about it. Its cast is blah, its directer is meh. So I wouldnt be too shocked if it ended in a flop. Fingers crossed though.

Well, there's a few things that have me really excited about this movie. Like the intro movie on the website (OMG nurses, patients, Pyramid Head!!!), the director (loved Brotherhood of the Wolf), and the set designs.

But, there's also that screenshot of Dahlia as this crazy ragged homeless woman looking like she's about to pounce. o.O I dunno.

My thoughts exactly. There are only 3 reasons why Im going to see this film:
1) SH fan
2) Sean Bean and
3) Pyramid Head!
But Hollywood doesnt transform games into movies well. TR and RE were good, but only cause the leading ladies were hot :D

This is also the first Video Game movie with a story that can translate decently to the silver screen. Not many of the other videogame movies had a story that really would have worked well. Tomb Raider and Resident Evil are the only ones that had a shot but not a super great shot either.

That said I really liked the atmosphere of Brother of the Wolf.

I am new to SH. I started SH not even a year ago, with SH4, and then got SH3. BOTh of which I loved. When I heard rumor of the movie, I nearly wet myself with excitement!

I know this movie will be good. Look at the cast of LoTR. Virtually the entire cast were unknowns, and that movie was awesome! This is VERY exciting news, keep us (or at least me) updated!

I'll go and see it in the cinema when it's done. But if I hear a stupid rock soundtrack at the start, I'm walking straight out.

Thank God this isn't the work of Uwe Boll, though.

They finally released the first theatrical trailer for Silent Hill!

BTW, I didn't know Silent Hill was in Toluca County, West Virginia... XD

I still keep hearing music from the games in the trailer, so maybe they will reuse the music... or maybe create some new music with the same feel.

You can't get much worse than the original SH1. "What's up with that radio...?"

Muuust see it. Even if there's possible shoddy acting, I have to see it. Just because it's Silent Hill.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the movie after seeing the trailer. I don't think there's been a game movie that's captured the general look and style of a game as well as this one seems to, and at the end of the day. I'm not asking for things like great acting with a movie like this. All I want is for it to stay true to what made the games so great in the first place; totally surreal and nightmarish enemies and locations that have you believing you've actually walked straight into hell. We'll see how it turns out, but like I said, so far so good.

That first trailer... they deffinitely got the style down. Grainy and freakish contrast and imagery. I love how they worked around the trailer in the official site though. The background changed as the it went on. Awesomeness. I have hope for this movie. It looks excellent so far. Also looks like they're attmepting to stay to the style of the games. Not many do that >_>; It should really help them out this time once the meat of it all starts pumping in your face.

That trailer has pretty much set it in stone for me: I'm going to love it. Yeah, it looks like they're drifting from the story a bit, and yeah, the acting doesn't look top notch. But they have the two most important aspects down to a T: the atmosphere/look, and the music. That's all that really matters to me when it comes to a Silent Hill movie. This film has been in development for years, so I guess all the time is paying off.

And for the purists I've seen everywhere throwing a fit over the fire concept... it could be so much worse. Watch the opening of that trailer again. It's almost frame for frame straight from the video game. They may have changed a bit, but this is the most faithful looking VG adapation I've ever seen.

Heh. Overall, the trailer looks good, despite the fact that I had to view it without sound (I'm at college). It looks good, yeah, and I'll go and see it, but it seems to lack originality and looks like a bit of a cliché.

I mean, c'mon... In how many horror movies have you seen a car swerve out of the way of something in the middle of the road and crash, making the driver walk? Quite a few, I reckon...

I never usually take much interest in movies that are based on video games, but now that I've seen the trailer for the silent hill movie I must say it does look like a well done movie, and it could be quite a thriller.

Personally, I voted for the "We've been expecting you." poster! lol

Although I'm a backseat player (I command my younger brother to play horror games :D ) I like Silent Hill (the game) although we haven't finished yet... I'm looking forward to it, really. Video games turned movies only pop out in the market once in a while. I wonder if they are currently working on Resident Evil (the third part if any).

Sorry to be the one telling u this but there is indeed a third RE movie in the works titled RE: Afterlife! Not sure if there is a plot to this one but the first two overall was pretty bad!

I hope this one gets it right, not many game-based movies out there!

Umm. Christophe Gans is the director, and I have full confidence in his abilities. What part is Paul Anderson involved with, exactly?

I voted for the one with the sign. It looked awesome. I love the game. I've played everyone. But the only one I beat was number 2.

Its great they are actually making a movie of one of my favorite games!!!

Every new video game movie that comes out they slap on a disclaimer saying it will "break the tide of bad video game movies". So far none have lived up to that. I wait with unbaited breath.

My reasons that this movie will be great:

1. Silent Hill is great
2. Trailer looks great
3. Pyramid Head looks very creepy which is great
4. Uwe Boll isn't directing it

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384537/fullcredits#writers I don't see Anderson listed in any part of the credits. Deffinitely not the director, producer, or writer. So I dunno where that information came from. Unless for some reason IMDB is misinformed. Which I'm pretty sure is fairly rare ^_^'

I was talking about the next RE movie, not SH. Didn't realize the post from Eternal Fantasy was probably referring to SH and not RE (the part about hoping they get it right anyway). If he was involved with SH, we'd probably be able to look forward to a movie that ignores the source material entirely, and features a terrible fight between Mila Jovovich and Pyramid Head. Unlike the RE movies, I actually have faith in SH being good.
