A person who decided that typing "Haha" was too much effort, so they shortened by one letter?

I prefer the ttyl people: Why are you touching that youthful lad?

What people don't know, is that it actually stands for 'lots of love'

An example:

jameskf: My Mum just died : (
DriverMan: LOL
karg: LOL, that's so sad.
qfeen: LOL :<
drunk: LOL
cranyon666: Thats *really* sad LOL
eggmaster: I feel you loss
eggmaster: LoL
fust0r: LoLz, Hope it wasn't a long and painful death
jameskf: Thanks Guys your the best internet pals i got!
drunk: We're always here for you, LOL.

'Lol' was probably started like every other pointless acronym: some teenage girl can only type at the speed of one key per second, and therefore finds it easier to say [insert acronym here].

Meh. If you were planning to strangle the person who created the acronym: 'lol', then that isn't going to stop the craploads of other annoying acronyms that exist.

As The Mighty Sabotender said, lol was Lots Of Love. I guess someone just thought that it could stand for laugh out loud and copied it.

There is nothing wrong with a 'lol' here and there, but when people use it all the time it gets irritating:
Me: Hey, how are you?
Them: Lol
Them: I'm okay, you?
Me: I'm alright tar.
Them: LOL!

:mad2:

I never "lol". I do know that it started, like all things purely evil on the internet, in Usenet groups.
