View Full Version : Is it possible...

To only have our contact info (MSN, Y!M, AIM) only visible to members? I don't mind members having that info, but a lurker added me to his MSN list today, just because he felt like it. That creeped me out a little...
So, is it a possibility? :D

I'm pretty sure that could be easily arranged with a tiny change of coding on a memberinfo template. I'll wait for more input just in case, but yeah.

You could just do the "PM me for it!" thing, which is now a highly hip and fashionable trend. Originally, I only changed my information to that because of spam bots scanning sites like this for email/IM addresses, and such a change would eliminate the need to do so.

You didn't invent that.

pffft. He didn't say it. He just made a humorous joke on his membership application.

Yeah, well... I invented the Internet, but in 1993 sold the rights over to Al Gore.

You didn't invent that.Yes I did. I also invented that nifty quote thing where you quote someone's post and then post no reply of your own.

Yeah, some guy used to do that a lot a few years back. It was quite sad really.

I'll second the motion to have contact info withheld from guests. Over the past few days, I've received a number of AIM and MSN messages from people I didn't know at all. The ones I checked didn't match any members from here.

Exactly. I don't mind the info being public to members, but not to just anyone who lurks here...

Not wanting to burst your bubble or anything, but you can still access their contact details as a lurker, just not on their profiles, instead under the location, I noticed you can't do this with the blue skin, but you can with the brown one.

Good point. I'll get that looked into when I wake up, unless another admin beats me to it.

I put my ICQ number in my profile when I joined just to remember it, for old times sake. Even back in 2001 ICQ was old and crappy.

Man, ICQ. That was THE instant messaging system until 2000, when it started dying off.

31305970! I have a pretty low number. I actually used ICQ to chat with someone a year ago, and boy does it suck. We just wanted to see if it was any good these days.
