i like the original. in fact i'm going to an anime/game convention and i'm gonna kick the asses of the cloud cosplayers with my black mage costume. (i am a nerd. thank you for noticing) favourite spell, i don't know. i can't remember if it was flare or nuke in the remake. but that one.

though actually i LOVE the black wizard in the 8-bit final fantasy 1. i just think he looks awesome

I like Golbaz myself, but if it has to be someone you get a chance to play as, definetly Rydia, favorite spell being Stop. I use it against almost everything, makes things so much easier.

if 8-bit theater was an FF i would definetly agree with you. id vote 8-bit theatres red mage because he can do black magic and is hilarious because he makes no sense in his crazy plans.
vivi is probly the best in FF because of his cool and interesting background and personalitys. my favourite BM spell in FF is probbably the cool looking death spells in all of the FFs.

There is no real black mage in VIII since everyone cn cast although some people say that Selphie and Rinoa re. But anyway My Top 3 are rydia, Vivi, and Lulu. Lulu because she's female and stands out, it just makes since everyone talks about witches casting evil magic and she is one. Vivi just has that old FF look to him which I like but I don't like his wussy personality. Rydia because she is both summoner and black mage when you thinkl that summoners are supposed to be combined with white magic.

Not really; Rydia was the first unique Summoner in FF; so Summoners were supposed to use Black Magic and Summon Magic... until Dagger/Eiko showed up. And Yuna afterwards. XD
