I have the Brady Games Strategy Guide, and I have a question.
When you look in the bestiary, for the 'exp' for some of the monsters, it says things like '15(+5)'.
Does any one who has this guide know what the (+5) bit means?

I believe that's how much more EXP the character/GF that performed the finishing blow to the enemy gets. Remember in Dollet how Seifer wants to make sure he is the one who kills the Anacondaur because he wants to get the most EXP? Of course I don't really understand how the game calculates EXP in the first place, so who knows.

Well, I fought a Fastitocalon-F, and its EXP was 15(+5), (I was level 9 when I fought it), Squall got about 130 EXP and Quistis got just a bit more... I am totally clueless as to why.

(It's not just Fastitocalon-f's that give me way more EXP than stated, its everything.)

im not sure wat it might be, it could be that certain types of monsters give out different amounts of exp, i dunno:choc: :moomba:

If I remember right (haven't played for too long) FFVIII's system makes you need 1000 exp. per level, so if you're a lot of levels above them they'll give less exp instead of you needing more- so it seems like an ever changing number. I'd assume it's some statistic that translates into something else. Having 100 str does not mean you'll deal 100 damage, this would probably be something like that. The more exp it say in the guide the more you'll gain but you won't gain the # it says.

Hmm.. rakerino, it's probably something along the lines of what you're saying. Thanks for the help everyone :D

The character that deals the finishing blow gains more exp.

It could be a +5 per level of the monster. for instance, at level one, the monster would give 15 ex, then 20, then 25...you start off at level 8 or something, don't you? so your level 8 the monster would give 55 exp at the base, then a little extra for the one who defeated it.

However I seem to get over 100exp, not 55..

There are a lot of factors that go into the formation of the EXP gained, some are:
-Your level
-The monster's level
-Who made the final blow
-If you used a GF (sometimes)

I remember once I was fighting a Malboro on a low level file, and I could finally start leveling up Quistis. So I did, I Lv Uped the Malboro to like level 60ish, then killed it. Quistis received 8000ish EXP for that fight. Enough to level her up quite a bit.
