Wouldn't consider The Pixies or Sonic Youth grunge myself (more just "alternative") but they did greatly influence a lot of grunge bands. STP and other bands outside Seattle are debatable too, but i'd still consider them grunge and will include them.

Good choices there, but Pixies are probably the original grunge band in my opinion.

I don't really listen to grunge....

But does Creed count, cos if so then My Own Prison is a fantastic album....in fact all 3 of their albums are great.

Heh, I used to think that myself but The Pixies are widely regarded as just being alternative. While they influenced later grunge bands (Nirvana in particular), the whole grunge "gentre" started in the early 80s (before The Pixies were even formed) with bands like Green river.

I agree it is a VERY VERY good album...not ultimate...just my opinion
