IGN got the chance to get their hands on the Japanese version of the game, you guys should check their preview (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/683/683247p1.html).
They don't seem to think the gameplay is that bad.
Also, be sure to check the video section, the intro sequence is available and I heard it rocks as hell (but I'd rather not watch it right now) ;)
