What?

Uh, was this recent?

I mean, I know a couple years back that was an annoying issue, but I haven't heard anyone complain about it in recent months, and I didn't even know it was still an issue anymore.

What level was it before it was pushed back to 26?

I don't understand...so no.

well a common issue in mmo's is a server reset, this usually happens when the developers are editing after a large update... and usuallly everything you have done in the last day or so is lost... this is what you are talking about... right?

This has not happened ever...i dont remember a matienence even..even if there was for your specific server they give you a warning to log out so you should.

Actually, a couple years back, around 2004, I remember reading a few threads on Alla about characters losing a few hundred exp and experiencing so called "rollbacks".

But I haven't heard of this happening in years, and I'm pretty sure it's a defunct issue now.

So uh, I have no idea how Tsukasa experienced what he said he experienced.

I was level 32. :eep: .... *sigh* :eep:

time to grind my ways up to level 27! *hasnt given up*
edit: should I ask a GM how to reselve the problem, or will he just say, please contact square enix company.

and when I do contact them after being lectured by the GM, will I be told to contact a GM to resolve the problem?

kinda amusing :)

Uh. What the hell? You went back 6 levels?

I have NEVER heard of something like that happening. Ever.

I don't really think that's possible. Do you have any screenshots?

Miriel

I don't think it's possible either. Have you contacted a GM about it?

Not that they're all too helpful, but y'know.

A GM wouldn't be able to do anything about it even if it really did happen, too.

Miriel
01-30-2006, 08:07 PM
Is it possible that you, um, forgot what level you originally were?

I've had that horrid experience happen to me plenty on diablo 2 but, not on any other MMOs

Not to be rude but I've gotta call BS considering in over 2 years of reading messageboards, playing the game and being generally involved with the community I've NEVER heard anyone complain about such a massive rollback. Long ago I've heard of people losing a few hundred XP (or gaining if they died before the 'rollback') but this hasn't even come up in a long time.

I'd be hard pressed to believe that this could happen without a massive uproar from oen or many in the community. It's basically just not possible unless you got caught in some kinda time warp or something lol

No one has your account information? They could have let your character die a whole lot, until you deleveled that much.

Markus. D

No... I dont think anyone else has my account details.

I erased that Black Mage now... im odd like that.

well ummm, I know Cure :\

I'd party with someone who knows cure lol. Anyways I know what your talking about and this could have happened yesterday. Did you forget to type in /shutdown or /logout or something? Everybody may remember the little message you get if your computer messes up and your forced to restart. Some saved data may have beed corupted blah blah blah. This is the only thing I thought see was talking about.

Miriel

There's no possible way that not shutting down properly could result in losing several levels. In fact, there's no way that not shutting down properly can lose you more than a few hundred exp and that's only assuming that your computer shut off in the middle of an exp party, or you shut off while a mob is attacking you causing you to have a dead character when you log back on.

But based on everything I know about FFXI, what Tsukasa says happened to his character could not have possibly happened.

nOt even that, I had my computer overheat on me tongiht while playing and I lost nothing. Oh and Miriel what time is it over there on the west coast? at midnight PST I can get Bert back on pandy :D

chronic_Maniac

Ok then what would you lose if you shut down the wrong way? Why would that message come up and say you might have lost some saved data?

Server maintenace still! Damn square and they're timming! xD it says 5:00 PST am or pm? who knows!? Just 5:00 PST. YOu'd think they could be a bit more specific >:0!

I'm not sure what good that message is. I guess theoretically something could be damaged but pretty much everything about your character is saved server side and NOT on your computer.

My computer overheats and shutsdown in XP a lot. Also my stupid ISP cuts me off for 15 minutes here and there with no warning. I've Ctrl+Alt+Deleted out of my game even with windower by giving it a hard shutdown. Almost everytime I'm on and maintenance is coming up I stay until it force DCs me.

Now... after all of these shuts downs over a 2 year period I've never ever ever ever experienced any kind of noticable rollback. Hell I've had it happen to me and came back a level higher because I got enough XP in the 30 seconds before the server DC'd me to hit my next level.

The only 'character damage' I've ever encountered was that I've had 1 or more complete macro rows deleted but I've never lost a piece of gear or lost a noticable amount of XP.

This type of roll back simply CANNOT happen. The only way would be for someone to log on to your character just to die and HP a lot. Even in that situation they would have to be dedicated. You would have to die around 60 times to lose that amount of XP.

Also another note... don't wanna be rude and perhaps your method of play is enjoyable to you but you'll never progress to enjoy anything more about the game if you continue start over. Why is making up 6 level so hard that you have to start over... um ... starting over means you have to make up

32 level for your main
all the levels for your sub
all of the skills you may have aquired
all of the gil you need to make
all of the scrolls you learned
all of the items to do the subjob quest

Starting over every time will eventually lead to you leaving the game in the future with a bitter taste in your mouth.

So many people write reviews about this game after having not even gotten their subjob or not making it out of the dunes. You can't really judge this game. I fear you will be one of these people if you never experience any of the true meat of the game due to your obsessive-restarts.

However, I suppose if you enjoy leveling through the dunes and dealing with the same stuff that tends to actually be the worst part of the game over and over then to each his/her own.

:eep: it happened okay, end of story.

ps: This was a one off thing Yearg, im only restarting this time because I feel its the best thing to do instead of go through re-grinding and get bored and die and etc...
