I've seen a lot of banned members recently..some of who'm have had wonderful posts on the forums, and I just wondered if you ever used a system where you suspend members for bad behaviour, let's say, a week, let them come back, and if they misbehave again, a further suspension or another ban?

Just a thought.

Yeah, it's called drunk tank, but ususally, members who are banned deserved to get banned.

once you're banned you don't come back.

I thought bans are like for one year or so?

Yeah, and then if you pay Cid enough you can come back.

xD Raistlin.

All forum bans are permanent, but you can apply for reinstatement after two years. Nobody has ever done this successfully, however.

We do have some temporary 'bans' like Eyes on Each Other bans and the Drunk Tank, but those aren't real bans.

And soon one or two just might. :)

Temp bans do not work. It just give the impression to members that if they screw up it's no big deal because they'll just be able to come back after a bit of time off. And then they screw up again...and know that they can come back again. This is not good and it makes a Mod's job that much harder.

Obey the rules and you get to stick around. Go against the rules enough times and you're out.

Remove the Drunk Tank and just go for a straight ban. If you get drunk and post a load of stupid crap which gets you banned, tough luck. And how do you even know if someone is drunk or just pretending in order to break the rules? (Only the smoothest of pranksters would dare try to pull off such a hilarious joke)

hi guzy im pSyhcotidc ok im SO DURHNK rught now okayh heres some pOERN for you ALL!

If bad spelling is the only qualification needed to be classified as "drunk", then half the membership are completely safe.

Oh, and the same thing goes for people who are "really really angry! Like, absolutely implacable!". If they want to bitch about or flame the ones who caused them to get so tragically upset or incredibly furious, LiveJournal is where they should go, not EoFF. Other people seem to know and follow this well enough, so why make exceptions?

Why so bitter today Psy-whore?

If it weren't for Drunk Tank, people like Levie and Mik would've been banned a long time ago. Sometimes people need time to cool down or sober up.

But I do agree that the Staff should do a better job of spotting people who are just acting stupid and posting crap (no offense Bert) cause they know they can get away with it and people who just go over the top without really meaning to. Cause it's pretty obvious most of the time.

I ate Raistlin's medicine by accident.

Levie would only be banned because of you, and Mik doesn't post anymore anyway.

Drunk Tanks are for people who are liked by the forum people/staff/whatever too much to be banned for spamming/small offenses. S'true. Can't say I dislike it though, for the reasons Miriel stated. But it's true. xD

I don't know if I'm exactly liked by the staff too much to ban. Unne, maybe. Hooters (whose antics originated the idea), maybe. Me?

Raistlin was drunk tanked? This is a pefect example of why the drunk tank should be replaced by out and out banning.

Having the drunk tank allows me to post with peace of mind while drunk.

The people who are banned are usually ones who have been given multiple warnings, though. So while you may have enjoyed their posting, and I most certainly did, they received enough warnings from the staff who didn't enjoy it, and I suppose that's what counts.

STAFF SUCKS *runs off screaming*

Perhaps we need a prison thread which is the only thread banned members are allowed to post in. They would suffer under STRICT moderation and be forced to either reform their ways or never see the grace of EoFF again... oh the horror of prison tyranny.

I don't know if I have a chance of being drunk tanked or not but I doubt people would know if I am drunk due to my already terrible spelling and moderatly bad grammar.

Simply put, the Drunk Tank serves as a way to protect people who are being uncharacteristically spammy or belligerent, who've established themselves as decent posters.

Those who do those things regularily just get banned.

We don't have enough money for reform counseling because NO ONE'S BEEN BUYING <s>PORN</s> PM SPACE.

F'serious. :( I want my FanArt software, but I expect I won't be getting it as soon as I hoped. All those people who were like "oh man I'd pay for more PM space" are happily ignoring the fact that they CAN now.

As far as I know, only one person has been legitimately banned and is no longer banned, but they don't post her anymore anyway.

Rent payment takes precedence, sorry. Don't worry though, I'll get around to it.

And making it cheaper and having more buyers woulda been better than making it expensive and only having one person buy it.

I think if people want extra PM storage enough to pay for it, then they'll be willing to pay the low-low price of $12 a year / $20 for two years. I don't see 129 people paying $1.

You're not the only one who expressed interest earlier, too, so yeah. Although I personally only can remember two of the names that did so.

And that was a case of reregistering much later and then after posting for a while being all "HEY GUYS IT'S ME" and staff being all "omg *too lazy to reban*".

Of course, since EoFF doesn't crash every other hour anymore, it'd be unlikely for someone IP banned to be able to reregister.

Speaking of unbannings, has Greg been banned two years yet? He won't come back, but I feel like bugging him anyway.

Instead of temp bans we give out multiple warnings. Those are your second chances.

Herm has been gone well over 2 years. He's made plenty of second accounts, though, not sure if all those have been gone past the limit.
