Kind of a silly question but GAME END SPOILER

I've seen the ending fmv several times, and I like to think that everyone lives happily ever after but I noticed they don't show squalls eye's opening, just Rinoa reacting to him, and it doesn't show him on selphie's home movies. I don't have any complicated theory to prove I'm just wondering if anyone else noticed this; it threw me off the first couple times I saw it cause I thought he was dead and his spirit was watching over Rinoa since he swore he'd always be her knight; but he doesn't look "spirit-y, he looks solid. Perhaps I'm just delightfully Mad... :Oo:

Didn't you watch the very last part of the ending? That should eliminate all thoughts about him being dead.

Here's what happened (spoiler, duh): Squall ends up in the desert-like floating piece of land where you fought Griever. Eventually he somehow winds up near Rinoa unconcious and Rinoa finds him and cries (tears of joy and relief). We are lead to believe he is dead because, well he looks dead, and in the credits Selphie's video camera runs out of batteries just when Squall would have come in the frame.
ALWAYS wait until after the credits when playing FF!!!

Yeah, he kisses Rinoa. Why is everyone avoiding mentioning that. It's the LAST SCENE once the credits are done. After the home video thing they show them out on a balcony under the stars. Falling star. She points to it. He grabs her wrist and pulls her in. They smooch. Fin~

See, that's the part that confused me, you don't see him react w/ anyone but Rinoa, so I wasn't sure if we're supposed to interpret that as his spirit or actually him in the flesh, but If everyone says he lives I'll go w/ that, I like happily ever after better than cold lonely death :love:

Rinoa is in the video, briefly, before the batteries die. She's shown reacting to Squall, doing her little finger nonsense.

If Squall WAS dead, Rinoa wouldnt be interacting with him at all, and the rest of the party wouldnt be jumping around squealing all happy-ending like. Squall isnt dead. He's off on his own with Rinoa, which is very Squall-like if you ask me. He isnt the sort to be mingling at a party.

Whether Squall lives in the end is the same sort of question as to whether Kuja dies in the end of FFIX; all evidence points to yes. They most likely chose not to show Squall in the video tape simply for dramatic effect.

I'd have to agree with 'natrix on that issue. I don't think there was deeper meaning there either. Avoiding being video taped just seems like a very Squall thing to do

When I saw Squall unconsiousness, I never thought he was dead. I thought he had lost all hope and fallen asleep ( or somethin :rolleyes2 ). Anyway, never crossed my mind that he might be dead ( maybe cause I was caught up in the awesomness of the ending ;) )

When we're looking through Selphie's cam, Rinoa is with someone pointing at the sky, correct? But we don't see who it is because he is far. When they show you "outside" you can see that he isn't on the video because he wasn't standing that close to Rinoa. And like someone else said, FFVIII's ending had the whole "happyhappy" feel. I doubt it would have that if the main character died.

I think you are all thinkin too much into this. on the first disk when squall goes to that dance thing he's sees the others first and then they disappear and... whoa. actually now i think about it... why would would irvine be in the video if they hadnt met until after the dance. now im confused. i could be that time compression thingy. anyway, yea we didn't no that selphie was doin the video thingy until the credits.

You seem confused. The video recording shown in the ending was a recording of the Garden Party held AFTER Ultimecias defeat, as a celebration (which underlines the fact that Squall isn't dead; or else they wouldn't be laughing and having fun!). The Garden Party in disc 1 was NOT filmed, and time compression is not involved at all.

It's really simple. Whatever happened to Squall when he was lost in that time-warp, Rinoa brought him back, and they promptly went and had a party, which is what we see in the ending. End of story.

What do you mean? In the first Garden Party, Squall sees Rinoa standing on the dance floor. In the ending, they're standing on the balcony...

lol sorry. on the first disk, just before the dance scene, Rinoa does the finger thing on the balcony. That is her introduction scene coz its the first time you see her right?

During the credits it shows all the gang having a good time in a video and its at some party, which I thought was the same the one as the first time Squall meets Rinoa.

The last scene at the end where Squall and Rinoa kiss is not what I'm talking about. Erm... i dont know if that makes sense.

Well, in the dancing FMV in disc 1, Rinoa does her finger thing on the dance floor, not the balcony. The fact that she does it in the ending is just because it's Rinoas signature gesture, and I guess Square wanted to bring things full circle.

The party in disc 1 and the party in the ending are two distinct parties, however. It is NOT the same party!

Definitely not the same party. Neither Edea, nor Irvine would have been at the SeeD graduation party, as Edea was busy being possessed by Ulti in Galbadia, and Irvine was in Galbadia Garden, he hadn't even met up with the rest of the team yet, remember? And, as Sir Bahamut pointed out, Rinoa made the gesture on the dance floor in the original, not the balcony.
