The Newbie Party

The real reason behind making this party thread late is because I thought that there would be better options for parties and that I would be able to give the Newbie Party's backing towards one of them, and also because I have had a lot to do lately. However I find it fitting that The Newbie Party is created later than even the party of Super Delete, as newbies are commonly those who have joined at a later time than others.

Last year The Newbie Party went under the guise of the #eoff party and still won. However this year, #eoff is already a dominant force in Eyes on Final Fantasy and I see no reason to further such a cause - although I still do personally endorse #eoff as a vital part of Eyes on Final Fantasy's community. But this year, it is not a time for the #eoff party. This year, I would like to go back to the roots of the Newbie Party, which is concentrating on the members of Eyes on Final Fantasy.

Two years ago, I started a thread stating the following:

We need a party that will put forth the real life source of these forums - the newbies, the unrecognised, the underrated, the underestimated and all their fans (the not-so-newbies).
This year, I return to that statement and will do everything I can to give the less recognised members of Eyes on Final Fantasy a chance to make a stand. This year, I have no gimmick, like so many other parties out there right now. I am not listing off a bunch of fads or trends, I am not mocking celebrities or other political powers, I am not riding on the most obscure random object I could think up nor am I trying to appeal to any other specific niche. I am appealing to Eyes on Final Fantasy's community environment and hoping that newbies can enjoy this place as much as I did when I first joined, and I am hoping that oldbies can do everything they can to encourage just that.

Two years ago, the Newbie Party won the elections. Last year, the #eoff party, which included the Newbie Party (as well as the Goomba Party and various #eoffers) won the elections. I ran both times and I did it for the Newbies, and the Newbies did it for themselves, too. I am immensely proud of those who joined for the greater good of EoFF and I wholeheartedly encourage people to continue to do so.

Naturally, while newbies are a great part of EoFF, oldbies will not be discluded from this group and I respect that it is always handy to have a mixture of people, so I encourage anyone who enjoys having equal rights around these forums to join this party. I hope that while oldbies are doing what they can for the newbies that the newbies will be grateful to those members who have laid out the platform for them, for these members are joining this party for the newbies. Respect, as always, should be mutual.

Newbies. The life-blood of Eyes on Final Fantasy's community. Respect them, encourage them, help them make EoFF's future a better place. For we all were a newbie at one point, and even some of us who have been around for many years still feel that newbie joy in our hearts.

I think the word "newbie" is great. It's like "rookie" in a major sport. It's your time to shine, when you're the underdog and you have every opportunity to make a fresh start and really get the full feeling of EoFF. I think, however, the word "n00b" and other such variants aren't so great. They suggest more to the "can't type" category than the "new member" category, and I don't like that, as a lot of newbies can type better than some of our longest standing veterans. This is why I think people should be judged not by the date of their registration, but by the content of their posts.

Chris: I still don't really get it. Why would I not be the first member of the party that I've been in for the past two years? I'm a firm supporter of newbies, always have been and always will be. :)

Chris
02-08-2006, 12:42 PM
Yeah, I see no reason to hate newbies or even the word, newbies. At one time, we were all newbies! (Did that sentence make any sense?). :(

Except that most of the internet is powered by elitist morons who call anyone new a "n00b", which is what has led to me hating the roots of the tree which has sprung from that word.

And I really don't care about when someone joined either, your point is very good, I wish to subscribe to your <s>pornographic</s> newsletter.

But not the party, obviously, duh.

You only waited 3 days, BoB?

Loony BoB
02-08-2006, 12:51 PM
I was going to wait longer but when the member with the word 'Del' in their name with more posts than any other member with the word 'Del' in their name starts their party, you know you've waited long enough.

That, and I actually had the time to sort something out during a short lull in phonecalls and emails at work this morning. The only real point to me waiting was to have most participating members already joined up to other parties, anyway, and that goal was effectively achieved on day one anyhow.

That paragraph states why this party will lose. Hey BoB, want to join the Fat Chocobo party?!

Loony BoB
02-08-2006, 01:21 PM
I have no intention of joining any party but The Newbie Party, as it is what I firmly believe in, and even if I only get one vote, then that vote will be better than none.

Dignified Pauper
02-08-2006, 01:26 PM
But you don't have enough candidates to run for all the positions, so you might as well join the Fat Chocobo party. Be part of the winning team. Besides, a vote fur us is a vote against Psychotic. And, after he screwed you over in last years election when you two slept together in a secret alliance, how could you not want to vote against Psy?

The word 'newbie' has been twisted. To be a newbie on the Internet is no longer a good thing at all - you're usually treated like crap and you're underrated - seriously. That's why this party isn't taking off. =P

Loony BoB
02-08-2006, 01:55 PM
Shaun: This party has won twice. The reason this party isn't "taking off" is because I delayed three days intentionally. I knew this would happen - although I was happily surprised to see some people putting off joining other parties so they could rejoin the Newbie Party, which is the only party to have been around every year.

Marick: Psy never screwed me over. Hell, I won.

Also, if I was desperate to win this thing then I would have started my party the hour the elections began. I had advance warning, after all. Either that, or I would have allied with Psy, because God knows if we were on the same team then all you other guys would get taken to the cleaners. Lucky for everyone, I don't think that will be happening anytime soon. :)

Loony BoB
02-09-2006, 05:44 PM
Most of the members waited specifically for this party to begin. Most newbies would, sadly, have not been aware of such a party, or would have been coaxed into joining another party at an earlier time. I think this might be the only party that doesn't have people actively recruiting. I'm just happy it's here.

And of course, Ashi. =]

chaos: I have limited time to talk right now, but hell, I wanna join the Newbies!

Trowa: Give us any position you have. *sits and stares and sits and stares*

Rubedo: And it's good to see you again, Loony Bob!

chaos: Damn. Sorry Bob, but we already joined the JLI.

Rubedo: The thing was, we thought that was something completely different from the Elections. :)

Maybe someone with multiple personalities can get away with joining more than one party.

chaos: I sure hope. An admin will have to see about that, though.

That's up to Election Booth. I doubt it though.

Wow. Well I'll be a...
Flame grilled patty with a melted cheese hat
and two onions, one slice of lettuce, a tomato
with flaky strips of bacons gently rested on top,
and all under a sesame seed bun.

I no longer look at forums as forums, now I look
at them as movies! (or the Terminator)

Sign me up BoB. Glad to be back.

Unforutnately the due date for applications passed before we could get enough members so it looks like we're down and out of this round. But I wouldn't have chosen a different party regardless.

Oh dear, an election without the Newbie Party. Things really have changed.

Loony BoB
02-21-2006, 04:11 PM
Yeah, that's why I started it up, because nobody else would. The elections did have a Newbie Party, it just didn't reach the next stage of the elections. :)

Does this mean that I beat BoB by default? :D

Yeah, it's a pretty hollow victory, but I'm not picky. :p

With so many parties not making it this year, I wonder what differences there will be to the rules of next year's elections.

I don't think I'll be repeating this experiment next year. :p Depends on how busy I am, I guess.

I've PM'ed Boothy with a couple of suggestions for the next elections, although some of them might not be workable.

Well, that can't be good.

That sucks. Oh well, we tried. Maybe I'll try to get it going next year if you can't.
