Okay I got a moderatly leveled up party with tidus, auronand yuna with bdl, can't beat that stinking jumbo flan, "the art of war" preaches strategy, but I prefer brute force................. my tactic is failing in this battle, any ideas?

At this point of the game, you WILL NEED STRATEGY. STRATEGY = ARMOR BREAK. After using armor break, just pound away with whatever characters you wish to use. Armor break only takes 1 turn to use, and a 1.5 turn cooldown rate. Otherwise, use any non-elemental magic you have learned with Lulu (if you have it, don't go out of your way to learn it)

thanx for answering, but armor break didn't work, IMMUNE, I have reflect on tidus, with yuna and rikku both doublecasting flare, but there seems to be no end to his hp, his ultima is wiping my guys out. bahumt can only use his mega flare for 99999 about every 3 turns, HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought you were referring to the one in Mt. Gagazet. The Species Creation one is much harder to beat.

First off, cast reflect on one of your characters (only one and rely on X-Potions to heal that character. Use shell/Lunar Curtains if you have them (useable with the USE command, not Item). After that have a character doublecast Flare off the Reflected Character, or use Ultima. After that, copycat if you have it.

I suggest completing the entrie Sphere Grid if you don't want to have to put up with the annoying concept of "dying". Otherwise, follow the instructions.

The Jumbo Flan is more annyoing than most of the Original Creations.
PM or post if you need help. Or AIM. That works too.

I think your wrong, I NEVER used Armor Break, not once, I killed all the different type of Flans using Attack, apart from at the very beggining at Besaid, where you HAVE to use the magic to kill them.

Armor Break works on all the Flans until the Monster Arena. I also barely level up. I think I maybe had 30 Sphere levels on all characters my first playthrough. I HAD to use strategy. I don't bother with power leveling (or going out of my way to level at all).

Auto-Life. Always with Auto-Life.

If you want to learn how to beat Nemesis, refer to this thread.

If my memory serves me correct, I think I heard of getting Anima's magic to 255 or thereabouts, caste haste on herself, have the lancet ability, and use Pain alot. I thought Jumbo can only be damages effectively (or at all) by magic attacks, and Pain isn't a physical attack, and at 255 magic, will do 99,999 damage.

Haven't you learned anything about flans, man? You have to use magic dude! Armor break helps too I think.

Your best choice is to level up three people's magic and start double casting+copy catting ultima, or teach anima shell and haste and let her pain him away~

Don't bother with Aeons. Their special attacks are the only attacks that do damage, and they all have the world's WORST cooldown rates. (Pain makes you lose nearly 2.5 turns).

And yes, any Aeon that's not Ixion has crappy MDef until they all have 255. Even then, by that point, your magic should start damaging it effectively.

Jumbo Flan has alot of HP, and the best way to kill it is Doublecasting Flare off a reflected Character (The Flan has reflect auto-cast on it). Or doublecast Ultima (which ignores reflect). It is helpful if your characters have One MP cost, and Magic Booster. The problem is that magic (even Ultima) will not always do 99999, so don't expect an overkill anytime soon. Don't forget Hastega and Auto-Life.

well I appreciate all the help, finally beat him last nite, but now a new problem............. I thought capturing 10 of every fiend and beating area and species creations would unlock nemisis... no go. what else do I have to do?????

You must have all of the Original Creations. I don't remember having to beat them before facing Nemesis, but you must have them. You need at least 150 in all stats except Luck if you wish to face Nemesis and live.

And Anima (most of the Aeons for that matter) will lose against most of the Area/Species creations, because they like to be cheap and have auto-kill Aeon attacks.

Don't forget to scroll right in the Original Creations screen. Nemesis gets his own screen.

>>> Use Auron`s Shooting Star and problem solved..

Tavrobel

Shooting Star causes Eject. Eject does not work on ANY of the Arena Creations. (it also defeats the purpose of the Arena, you WANT to fight the monsters, if you Eject, it does not give EXP or items for that monster)

And if you are actually referring to Banishing Blade, if it says "immune" to using the normal Breaks, then Banishing Blade will not work. (only deals damage)

Immunity works like this, for all them Status newbs.

Let's say I'm fighting a flan. If Auron used Armor Break, then the Flan's armor should be low enough for other characters like Tidus to attack normally. If it did not work, but no words popped up, then it did not work, but it does not mean that the monster has immunity. If it did not work, and the words IMMUNE appeared as the attack commenced, then the Armor Break will NEVER inflict Armor-Down.

Banishing Blade will only deal the four status-downs IF AND ONLY IF the words IMMUNE do not appear. If you used Banishing Blade, and the words IMMUNE popped up, then the monster is immune to all four status-downs. If not, then it is weak to at least one of them.

The success rate of Banishing Blade is 100%, so if the Flan is NOT IMMUNE to Armor-Break, then Armor Break WILL WORK GUARANTEED. Otherwise, it will not inflict Armor-down. A bonus for all the overdrive newbs is that if an enemy is immune to at least one ailment, then the damage of Banishing Blade is increased proportionally.
