Do you prefer to be in charge of.
1. Buffs.
2. Healing.
3. Enfeebling
4. Mag Damage.
5. Ran Damage.
6. Phy Damage.
7. Healing ^_^
8. Hate Control.
9. Tanking/Hate Taking.
discuss why and wtf why. (its multiple choice so dont limit yourself to one).
I like Buffing others and Healing most of the time (there can be some real jerks who just "heal plz and buff plz" you, and then there are a majority who thank you for healing them after a lengthy battle and keeping there atrributes shining when you were all in battle.
so, Buffs and Healing in my faveorite way of playing in most mmorpg.

I like tanking (hence why I'm a 75PLD), and I like doing physical damage (hence why I'm taking WAR to 75 and then THF to 75).
I like to do magic damage, (BLM60) and Enfeebling, (RDM50).. so yeah.

Actually everyone is in charge of hate control in one way or another, but i can see what you mean by that.
I have always been a main healer, i just like being able to heal better than anyone else and be a pivoting point in a party where things are reliant on me at times. Although at certain party setups i am not as useful, i like being able to have the big bang Cures like CureV and RaiseII and III as well as being able to help conviently help others(hopefully NOT harassed with help /tells). Although other jobs interest me, i dont know why but healer types are my main love and so will WHM for a very long time to come. Maybe its just that in every FF or RPG you NEED a healer to do well...so i am going to excel at being it and maybe improve with some advice too on something i overlook.

Nuking. <3
Ouch!

I enjoy playing mage classes in general. Healing? Nuking? Enfeebling? Buffing? You name it, I'll do it. Hence my desire for a RDM main.
I did enjoy dishing out damage on DRK, but it got stale after a while. Pressing a couple macros for drains and aspirs every so often and a weapon skill once a battle got old pretty quick. On top of that, the whole accuracy fad really put me off to meleeing.

physical damage, but I'm gaining a taste for buffs and de-buffs. I REALLY want to try BRD and other support jobs, and other DD classes like RNG and DRK. There really isn't any role in combat that I wouldn't do though. I'm very familiar with reserve tanking and even main tanking as a MNK (yeah, I know, bad idea, but some PTs are just that desperate).

Support - This is my job. I find that I love this the most but I believe I'm in a very very small minority who can enjoy simply being pure support without damage output.
Melee DD - I enjoy this but probably this is among my least enjoyable things to do. For the most part this is honestly pretty boring.
Magic DD - Nuking is a little more fun than melee DD for me but not a huge amount. It just allows you to do generally more concentrated damage at one time for huge numbers.
Tanking - I'm finding that I love tanking as NIN. This is thoroughly enjoyable and gets me very involved.
People will say that BRD is the most boring job because all you do is sing. I dunno... depends on how you classify boring. Is it boring because you don't get to do any damage output? If that's what you find boring then perhaps. Is it boring because it's the same repetitive crap? Not so much. At least compared to melee DD jobs it is not. BRD is probably one of the most involved jobs and there's almost no time that you aren't actively doing something as opposed to most melee jobs.
You can sum up most melee jobs by the roughly 3 things they do
Engage
Use JAs
Use WSs
Plug that in for almost any melee job and it fits.
MNK
Engage
Use Boost/Chi Blast (when appropriate of course)
Use WS
RNG
Engage
Use Sharpshot
Use WS
WAR
Engage
Use Berserk
Use WS
Granted I've only gotten most melee jobs to 20 and many of them get increasingly complex as you level but in the end they are all the same engaging using JAs and WSs. Just in different combinations.
Tanking is a different issue. As NIN at least you are a lot more actively involved in knowing what is going on to keep hate and keep shadows etc. I assume PLD, though they have no shadows, deals with a lot of the same issues. Tanking seems more rewarding to me coming from BRD because BRD is so busy that most other jobs seem boring by comparison.
BRD, the only truly pure support job (considering RDM are amazing soloers and also tend to melee sometimes even when people tell them not to), is pretty repetitive as well but there's so much more to think about. When I join a PT I'm not thinking, "I wonder what SC I can make with othermeleeplayer A?" I'm looking at the whole PT and making and assesment of the needs of the PT. This is less interesting and compelling at 75 but the fact remains.
I have to consider who needs what songs and in some cases have to specfically time songs in my cycle so they will over-write others (often the case with giving RNG Prelude and trying to give the melees Madrigal and Minuet as well). I have to find a timing to allow me to be the most efficient so that I can get the appropriate songs on everyone, managed to debuff and enfeeble the mob, and be able to throw out cures while not losing step in my cycle. Ahhh excitement.
Anyway... just another long dissertation by me ^^

Really? I hardly ever use boost. Mostly what I do is focus + berserk. That and provoking if the tank sucks and can't keep hate off the mages (which happens a lot more than I'd like it to).
Ouch!

Boost is pretty broken. Do boost 12 times before a battle and nail the mob on the first hit. >=D
Also, if you're going to be keeping hate off the mages, boost isn't too shabby for maintaining hate if you use it regularly.
