What Anime Titles do you enjoy that a lot of people don't seem to know about.

Mine would have to Be Cosmo Warrior Zero and Getbackers.
Cosmo Warrior has a lot of unique characters including Zero and Harlok, its also part of the Harlock saga, Harlock the Legend returns and Galaxy Express 999. After watching Zero i really wanted the others.

Getbackers is an anime that can shift from really silly to really serious really well, with some of my favorite anime characters of all time. Lightning Emporer Ginji Amano, Thread Master Kazuki, Kurodo Akabane AKA Dr. Jakyl, and Emishi Hirio the Fresh Blood Joker.

What are yours?

X the movie is a nice tragic anime. Loved that. Haven't seen the series though. I should.

That movie SUCKED and kind of goes against the actual Manga big time from what I understand. The series is awesome and does everything a billion times the justice. Good music, good character development, good ending awesome action.

Also I disagree with Eureka 7 being mentioned as of now. It is still airing in Japan as was licenced before it even started to air in Japan. Thus lack of Fansub Groups subbing it...that and I don't think most of them considered Air Surfing Robots to be cool. Being a semi-child of the 80s I think it is awesome :D

Having said all of that I don't watch that much stuff that is not known. I like a few studios Bones and BeeTrain. I follow those studios and watch most of what they put out. I also follow Gundam. There is stuff outside of that but it isn't unknown.

Whatever anime I see, Ive seen on TV, rented or bought, never imported anything, so you hardcore anime fans will probably see these titles as more mainstream than unknown, if I havent seen it its new to me as they say.

SoulTaker of course hence the name, was a g4 for a time back when it was Tech TV, one of my all-time favorites dont know how well known it is.

Berserk, and 3X3 Eyes are other anime's that I like, probably not as well known as Fullmetal Alchemist and Cowboy Bebop, but still some of you probably have seen this years before I did though...

You think you dont get much anime in America?????? You get LOADS compared to Britain. The only animes that get aired in Britain are Pokemon, Digimon and Dragonball (yes, crap selection I know) (well, we get FMA and Wolfs Rain as well, but only if you have Sky, which I dont >.<)

I don't think Akira falls into the little known anime. Its one of , if not, the most famous anime movie ever.
lmao yeh

Dragonball Z

Sailor Moon

Pokemon
Um... he said "little known" and "good". Those 3 shows are probably the corniest and most well known anime shows in existence.

As for the other 3, there all pretty well known as well, althogh they are very good (Evangelion is one of my all-time favourites)

I seem to have the opposite opinion of the whole X the movie/TV series argument.

Starting with the manga... Frankly, I think most of it is a waste of printed paper. Half the pages in a volume usually consist of picture of feathers flying over the Tokyo cityscape. It took about nine volumes for true progression to set in. It is still a very satisfying series. After all... 90% of the drama in Star Wars comes from the drag and anticpation towards some sort of finality.

The TV series, in my opinion, is the absolute worst incarnation of X. It keeps the useless drag of the manga, and then ends very abruptly. Lame. Giving it a 25-ish episode run was a huge mistake. If you are going to have the slow and *cough* self indulgent pace X the manga had, then a year long run (50 episodes) would have been necessary. Some of the cenematics in the final episode were nice.

And then there is the infamous movie. My favorite. It wraps up what X is all about in two-odd hours, and does so brilliantly. "It has poor character development!" "____ DIED USELESSLY!" Ahem... Like I said, it wraps up what X is all about in two odd hours. If you drop the high school English grading scale, give it another veiwing, and try to let it impact you emotionally, then the movie usually works. I hated this movie as much as anyone at first. Then I sampled all of X and came back to it. Great stuff.

I wish the TV series was longer than the 24 episodes.

Also the movie was 90 minutes long and I couldn't watch it because it was bad. Forget about the story. I just couldn't watch it. It was way to akward.

Unlike you though I watch the TV series first THEN went to the movie thinking...how is this so bad that everyone bitches about it? I bought it used from gamestop and returned it the same day.

Eh, it IS pretty old (seeing as the writer has since done another film, which is almost out on DVD), only the others are older

Also, Id actaully say anime itself was relatively unknown (or at least for what it is, rather than for a genre of kids shows, or hentai, both of which are common misconceptions based on the fact that those types of shows get more publicity than shows like Evangelion or, say, Cowboy Bebop)

It is so convenient that this is a Final Fantasy board, because the issues with Gundam fandom are identical.

You have purists of the original Gundam series, then you have the fans that were hooked by Wing or SEED. Just as how some people love FF I-VI and call VII-on "popular" garbage and constantly rant about how the new fans are just in it for the hair and the swords. Most fans of early Gundam have the exact same opinions of next generation Gundam and its fans.

But, just as with FF, I enjoy it all. Depending on my mood.

But Fruit Basket is well known ... the mangas been sold in Waterstones, so its not unheard of.
lol yeh if the mangas been sold in Waterstones then I have to say, that generally means its pretty famous actaully :P (relatively at least)

Allthough I have to admit, I have seen (first volumes of, at least) both Lament of the Lamb and SDK, 2 very good, quite unknown manga series in Waterstones, so I guess there the exceptions

Thank god england doesn't do that.

I came up with a new obscure anime : Ginban Kaleidoscope. odd, but good. A figure skater gets possessed with the ghost of a Canadian aviator. Very, very funny.

Akazukin Chacha's a good fairly old anime that seems pretty obscure :p You'll probably get sick of it fast though if you hate wordplay, since a heck of a lot of it's humour is based around it :p

lol no offence but ive heard from a reliable source thats crap :P

Ive also heard of Kagumore Orange Road, the DVDs are avalablie to buy in HMV and I swear Ive seen the manga in Forbidden Planet.
Probably, Forbidden Planet tends to have at least one volume of pretty much every english language manga, at some point or another. Its really good for manga, comparatively at least (still not a scratch on most Japanese bookshops, but still...)

i didnt say it determined what u see, i said as long as ive been watchin the sci fi channel i have never seen them give that show,so where do u live in the u.s.?

Actually, the majority of dubbing studios are in Canada.

Sorry. I know how anti- you were trying to be. =( Maybe next time. /sarcasm

Anyway, back on topic. Has anyone seen The Violinist of Hameln? That might be crossing the line from "Little Known" to "Totally Obscure", but it's a pretty neat series. Especially if you are fond of classical music.
