Both. A good beat can be ruined by rubbish lyrics, and vice versa.

I say lyrics. A song can have a catchy beat, but it gets annoying if the lyrics suck and it gets stuck in your head. For example, I hate the Gorillaz' lyrics, but their beats are pretty good. I say this because I have 'Feel Good Inc.' stuck in my head and I want it to GO AWAY!!! But anyway, hey Tifa's Real Lover(really, did you make this thread because of the FOB/P!atD conflict? xDDD

The "beat" is really important to me, but after awhile, it gets old. Great lyrics, for me, will keep me listening to the same song over and over again. And I can forgive a horrible beat if the song has lyrics that I really like.

Maybe I'm weird, but that's how it is for me. :D

Not lyrics, but horrible singing are what usually ruin a song for me. I've heard songs with GREAT beats and melodies, but the singer's voice was just AWFUL.

Both are unimportant in the overall scheme of things. I prefer that the lyrics SOUND good. What they say doesn't mean much to me. I don't really notice the beat is there. I much prefer what the actual MUSIC sounds like as a whole rather than those minor things as an individual.

Beat? Are you talking about the overall sound? Either way, the music is ALWAYS more important than lyrics. That's why they call it music.

Usually, I prefer lyrics. But it really depends. There's always these certain select songs that have a beat that interests me more than the lyrics. They are always a bit unorthadox, though; compared to the stuff I usually listen to. And example of a beat more interesting than lyrics song is Milkshake by Kelis.
