I'm the DJ for my school's radio station and was wondering where would be a good place to get clean versions of any songs.

Thats hard, You could put into Limewire
*song name* Censored
Most Censored songs would be on CD's like Smash Hits or something.

Wal-Mart. But please don't support censored music. If you really can't play songs with swearing or the word 'gun' than just find songs without that kind of content.

I know but I have no choice. They make us play nothing but clean versions. I'd rather it not be like that.

nik0tine

Then just play songs that are clean by nature.

JackNapier

That really doesn't leave very many choices open though.

There are tons. You pretty much just have to stay away from rap, and staying away from rap is a good thing. :p

Country seems to be getting really popular nowadays, and that genre has very little swearing. A good majority of pop music has no swearing, and alot of popular rock is the same way.

I'm pretty sure playing country for my middle school's radio station won't get a very good reaction. But you've got a point some rock has little swearing. And I think I could get away with an ass or two.

Ubel, what type of music are you looking for, There are squillions of songs that had no swearing at all.

There are tons. You pretty much just have to stay away from rap, and staying away from rap is a good thing. :p
Why Would You say that other to cause conflict ?

It just seems that all my favorite songs have at least one cuss in them. I thought for sure Death Over Glory by Social Distortion was clean...but then I listened and they talk about someone smurfing a nun.

I think themes of the songs dont matter so much, Your school seems really strict with what it wants...

That's not what this thread is about.

Ubel, if you're buying your own music for the radio station, then you can probably get cheap singles from different record companies that produce the artists you want to play. They'll be pre-censored.

And it's radio, it has to be censored.

nik0tine

Radio doesn't have to be censored.

Itunes also has censored music readily available, but I still don't think you should use it.

There are loads of songs without swearing that are good. Even though the bands use profanity in some songs shouldn't eliminate that band in total. Greenday, Offspring, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Red Hot Chilie Peppers, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Flogging Molly...

The list just goes on.

Obscene Broadcasts Are Prohibited at All Times

* Obscene speech is not protected by the First Amendment and cannot be broadcast at any time. To be obscene, material must meet a three-prong test:
* An average person, applying contemporary community standards, must find that the material, as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest;
* The material must depict or describe, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct specifically defined by applicable law; and
* The material, taken as a whole, must lack serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.

Indecent Broadcast Restrictions

The FCC has defined broadcast indecency as "language or material that, in context, depicts or describes, in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary community broadcast standards for the broadcast medium, sexual or excretory organs or activities." Indecent programming contains patently offensive sexual or excretory references that do not rise to the level of obscenity. As such, the courts have held that indecent material is protected by the First Amendment and cannot be banned entirely. It may, however, be restricted in order to avoid its broadcast during times of the day when there is a reasonable risk that children may be in the audience.

Consistent with a federal statute and federal court decisions interpreting the indecency statute, the Commission adopted a rule pursuant to which broadcasts -- both on television and radio -- that fit within the indecency definition and that are aired between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. are subject to indecency enforcement action.
Radio does have to be censored. All media outlets have to censor themselves in some way.

Play music with:

A.) no vocals.

B.) vocals in different languages

c.) where the vocals are indecipherable

Edit: This is for a middle school radio station?!?!? What is a middle school doing with a radio station?!?!?
