Is Chrono Trigger part of final fantasy series?

Can someone please tell me if Chrono Trigger is part of the Final Fantasy series ?
I'm new to rpg and I received final fantasy chronicles as a gift but don't know what to play first.
I don't know if Chono trigger is a sequal to final fantasy 4 or a prequal to ff 4

what to do please help.

no, it was just Square releasing 2 of the great snes classics for ps1. theres some fmvs and an added ending for trigger, but other than that there wasnt a lot of difference.

Edit: ff3(j) is the prequal to 4, ff5(j) is the sequal to 4

If FF isnt in the name, its not a Final Fantasy..

I'd play Chrono Trigger first though, I think FFIV is great but CT rules all on the SNES, and these are remakes of that.

None of the FF games are linked, except for X and X-2, so there are no prequels and sequels to any given FF game.

Crappy port due to horrible CT load times and a worse translation of FFIV. I like the original translation. It was more fun.
