I dug out a few of my Dad's old albums from this band, they rock!
my dad liked them when he was a kid too so saved me money.

What do you think of Iron Maiden, one of the most legendery Heavy Metal bands their is. Number of The Beast, Seventh son of a Seventh Son and Iron Maiden were all good albums but the band really can sing and their theme of lyrics and riffs is what makes them so godly IMO. Ok people discuss!

I think Iron Maiden have some great guitar players and a superlative bassist, The song "Flight of Icarus" has the best power scream i've ever heard.

All in all Iron Maiden are like a 9/10:)

Run to the Hills and Number of the Beast are some of my personal favourites. Sveneth Son of a Seventh SOn, Moonchild, Powerslave, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Iron Maiden and Alexander the Great are also some favourites, I just cannot decide which is the best but Dickinson and Harris have some serious talent power screaming and normal singing.

I like the solo to 2 minutes to midnight, The trooper is another great song with a Great solo to it.

I agree with Venom, 9/10 is the score I give Iron Maiden as well, very kick ass band, always stays true to their sound and they're so MYSTICAL in a way, they remind me a lot of the SNES days :D you know. But yeah...great band.

favorite songs:
-Caught Somewhere In Time
-Sea Of Madness
-Powerslave
-Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
-The Clayvoyant

Good band, but HIGHLY overrated.

They're excellent for a reason, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Dokken and Deep Purple are more over rated than Iron Maiden though. Who cares if you think they're over rated, they do good music, good songs and alot of them are very famous for a R-E-A-S-O-N.

They do but they arent as great as the are said to be, close though, very close.
British Heavy Metal bands dominated the 70s and 80s, most new bands use the keyboard which annoys me to hell.

Key Boards are ok, as long as you know how to use them, I prefer when the artist chooses to use the piano (Ya know Motley crue doing home sweet home, and GNR doing November Rain) Because it just makes a ballad sound good, But Key Boards are annoying cause it just kills the whole guitar apect of a band.

Keyboard based music is often times much better than guitar based music. Take, Solefald for example, their keyboards are much more important than their guitars on a few albums and well guess what they are better than 95% of metal bands.

Anyways.

Iron Maiden are not as good as everyone says they are, and just because they are famous doesn't mean they are that good.

Helstar are fucking MILES ahead of Iron Maiden, but they are not as famous.

Fame comes from talent and Iron Maiden have some serious talent, Dickinson and Harris are some seriously talented singers and the style of music is excellent. If you like keyboards go listen to techno it's that simple. You can't have metal without the actual guitars though, it just doesn't seem right at all.

i would definetly not say Iron Maiden are that famous, they are certainly famous amongst heavy metal circles, particularly because they are good at making music. Dont take this offensively crushed hope but they are a hell of a lot more musically tallanted than the death metal you listen too. Iron Maiden have built up a huge fanbase over the years because they are interesting to listen to and pleasing to the ear and have inspired hundreds :choc:

Hmm, well lets prove you wrong AGAIN.
Om. Bass and drums only, and undeniably metal.

Keyboards belong in metal just as much as guitars do. Infact, most of the better bands now days use keyboards, just because you are stuck in the 80s doesn't mean that you can't be a good band and use keyboards.

Fame =/= talent, because by that statement you are saying that Slipknot and Ashlee Simpson are talented.

Fame = luck and good timing.

I swear, had Helstar been as lucky as Iron Maiden were by getting noticed by whatever guy "made" them big, then we would all be worshiping Helstar not IM.

No, not really. Iron Maiden are no where near as musically talented as Neuraxis or Psycroptic or !T.O.O.H!. Infact, I love how you say I listen to DM, when I have stated MANY times that I listen to very little DM and instead listen to ALOT of black metal.

Keyboards were introduced to metal recently and are assosciated mostly with Techno and all that dance music.
Don't butcher this thread like you've did with so many on a similar basis.

Wikipedia says: "Metal, is a form of music characterised by aggressive, driving rhythms and highly amplified distorted guitars. Its origins lie in the hard rock bands who between 1967 and 1974 took blues and rock and created a hybrid with a heavy, guitar-and-drums-centered sound. From the late 1970s on, many bands would fuse this sound with a revival of European classical music. Heavy metal had its peak popularity in the 1980s, during which many of the now existing subgenres first evolved. Although not as commercially successful as it was then, heavy metal still has a large world-wide following of fans known by terms such as metalheads, headbangers and moshers."

Ok then lets get back on subject. Number of the Beast was practically magic, great album, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is a great album too, hard to decide between the two of them. I noticed that alot of British Metal bands sound similar in Bass and Vocals, I would think of one of my estranged, random theories but that is for another time...

British metal and american metal are completely different, i prefer the former :choc:

The country a band is from does not matter.

God damn. Also, a band CAN be metal without guitars.I know of at least two bands that don't use guitars and yet are still metal.

Om
and the other one I can not remember the name of, but for some reason, I think that it has something to do with the word Necro ... not sure though. I'll find out and get back to you.

Also, that Wikipedia definition is as most are.

Anyways:

With the current flow of the conversation, Norway is one of the best, followed by Finland and Sweden, then the USA, and then Germany.

Neither Rammstein nor The Scorpions are metal anyways.

Whoa, totally off fucking topic.

Brian The Pink Shark

not metal by your standards CH, maybe you should try to realise that death metal isnt the only metal out there, there is also good metal which includes the scorpions and Rammestein who are most definetly metal. I could just as easily say that the metal you listen to isnt metal because it is full of people grunting and contains no musical talent, but it is because it is just another branch of metal, please respect thr other forms of metal or do not post at all.

Anyway this is a maiden thread so lets get back on topic :choc:

Simply because the Wikipedia article is accurate and your wrong you say it's bull, do you want to continue butcher this thread or actually discuss Iron Maiden, if you think they're over rated then avoid the thread, it's simple.

Some of the Iron Maiden concerts were amazing, the stage sets, pyrotechs and performance. I still cannot decide on favourite song, many of their songs are excellent such as Run To The Hills, Number of the Beast, Alexander the Great and Hallowed Be Thy Name. Examples of my personal favourites. Their cover of Judas Priest's Electric Eye was amazing.

Iron maiden stage shows are fantastic, when i say them they had a devil eddie whoes head turned and glared at everyone, they also had a peace of mind eddie who walked on the stage and started making wanker signs at everyone, hillarious :choc:

Fuck. How many times do I have to tell people here, I do not listen to much death metal. God damn.

Anyways, NO. They are NOT metal, based on PURE fact. The Scorpions are a hard rock band, and Rammstein are an industrial rock band.
Rammstein have had metal INFLUENCES in their music, but as a whole, they are not metal, and not because I don't consider them metal, but because THEY JUST ARE NOT.

You can NOT say what I listen to isn't metal, because MUSICAL FACT, supports me.

You have to realize about Wikipedia, Bladen, that ANYONE can make articles on that site. It is not accurate because of that. It is NOT a go to site when you want to talk about ANYTHING music related, especially not genres. It is wrong, I am right, if Jrgen would hurry his ass here I would not be alone.

Anyways, back on topic.

Piece of Mind is IM's best album.

Crushed Hope
02-25-2006, 05:43 PM
Well, I think it is perfectly fine to argue points regarding Iron Maiden in this, I mean it isn't trolling just because I say I think they are overrated, I have not trolled once in this topic. Sure it did stray off of its path, but never once did I purposly envoke flames upon myself.

Hard rock is a style of rock, and therefore can not be considered a style of metal, as metal is a total different genre from rock, influences or not.

Anyways, I really think think the Blaze albums are pretty underrated for Maiden.

A cool thing to do with an IM song especially Run to The Hills or a long one, speed it up and listen to it at 1.5x speed or 2x normal speed, it sounds cool. The solo in 2 Minutes to midnight does rock but the theme to Wicker Man is better.

Better?
