This is arguably the greatest FF game ever made.
This game along with FF 1-5 are ALL worth playing.
You cant really call yourself a FF fan without at least playing FF 1, 4, and 6 imo.
The FF series isnt the greatest series of rpg games ever for no reason. :p

Although I would not recommend playing it on the PS2 (or PSOne) as the load times are horrendous. If you're lucky, get a copy for the SNES and play it there. Otherwise emulate it.

[center]It has an interesting plotline,
well. It's pretty much a good game al together.
Although the aren't creative enough with some of the characters. Such as Strago, Relm, Or Cyan.
They focus to much on Terra.
But it is the best FF game to me.

Final Fantasy VI is the greatest role playing game of all time. Not only has it basically set the standard for what is to be expected from any current-generation RPG in terms of character and plot development and depth, it has also stood the test of time and remains just as entertaining to play through multiple times today as it was over a decade ago. If you haven't played through Final Fantasy VI in its entirety I would argue that you have never experienced what video games have the potential to be.

Your text makes my eyes bleed.
Anyways, FF6 was great in so many ways. How it focused on not one but multiple characters brought it huge depth. And have you ever seen a baddie as awesome as Kefka? I think not....Kefka pwns.
Damn...now my text makes my eyes bleed.

You can't calle yourself a Final Fantasy fan if you haven't played this. It's both solid canon and amazing innovation (if compared to previous games, of course).

Bear in mind that before they made FF7, they made six others.
FF1, FF4 and FF6 are probably all better than 7, imo. Except maybe 1. That's up for debate in my mind. Seriously, if you give FF6 a fair chance, you'll love it. If you play it for 2 seconds and decide that you don't like it because the graphics aren't good, you suck.

Just as long as the FFVI fans then go back and play FFI-V. People who only played FFVI and automatically think that this makes them ‘Classic’ FF fans are absolute scum.
In answer to the original question, FFVI is a fantastic game that seriously deserves a playthrough or two.

that diagram is good but not exactly too accurate. you should try as hard as you can to play every FF. i know some of the new ones are better but the old ones in some cases are even better than the new ones.

FFVI owns.
That is all.
Nothing can own it.
It's got the other games whipped and is dragging them by a steel studded collar, all while burning them and laughing in their faces.
...
Wait... Sorry... I let Kefka out of his padded room, you can leave him out if he wants, He'll just go own all the other villians.

It's one of the best RPGs to be created since the dawn of videogames, so I'd say it's pretty damn good. All the characters, the plot, the graphics, the writing...well, it's simply top-notch stuff.

its a great game, make sure u emulate it, the psone version has real slow load times, and long delays even after a simple battle, which make it less enjoyable...
but ur right, the game has gets top marks in almost all categories, but i still enjoy ff7 equally to it. i like the enhancements psone brought, particularly the music.

First FF game I was introduced to was FFVII. I liked that game so much that I decided that before I actually finish the game (I think I had played up to Cosmo Canyon if I recall), I wanted to experience the games that led up to it so I stopped playing FFVII and played through FFI-VI (except III as I wasn't aware of the fan translation at the time). I'm so glad I did, I was able to appreciate VII much more once I played through it's predecessors. And my first thought when I played VI was that it played like a next-gen RPG (meaning next-gen relative to the platform it was released on). Don't let the 2D graphics fool you, There's some depth to that game. But don't just consider playing VI, I'd go play them all.

LOL DUDE THAT'S AWESOME
But I've some problems with it. In your bottom half, it doesn't say anywhere that playing them will make your brain crispify (my word use in the English language... umm... what's the word I'm umm... searching, no... looking for? I'm not... good at... umm... Spanish?).
The old school games make you smarter. Once I played FFVI, I immediately went from a 5 Bs and a 1 A student, to having 5 As and a B.
There's so many things that make this game an awesome game. I can list several; feel free to add on...
a) great plot
b) awesome characters
c) teh haxxors villians si es teh greatest evar, 1337 haxed in ovrdrve
d) sets the standard for ALL RPGs from this point on
e) Kefka (I call him the hero b/c he accomplishes what I aim to do; complete and utter domination, to finally make people realize that FFX-2 sucks, and that FFVI is GODLIKE)
f) God is the final boss (<3 for all you Atheists)
g) not so sucky graphics (if they burn your eyes out, then you need to stop wearing glasses, and look at the world with 5/7 vision, tell me how THAT does not burn your eyes, for that matter, stop playing video games)
h) two blonde female characters that are not dumb (the ultimate sex appeal, way more than Rikku in FFX-2, but I can't argue with prostitution)
i) makes you think about your ethics and take on life
j) the most important reason: because I said so

This is going to get me a bag of anthrax sent in the mail.
But I prefer the later installments. I'm not a fangirl and I don't drool over CLOUD CLOUD OH CLOOOUD!!! or anything. I just find them to be richer in storytelling. Kefka didn't impress me at all.
I do respect it for the epic that it was in its day, and all it contributed to modern gaming. But its just not my particular cup of tea.
Down, FFVI fanboys, down.
I rate games on the ebilness of the villains. Kefka wins.
Also on how many depressing scenes there are. FFVI wins.
And how non-sucky the female characters are. FFVI wins.
FFVI wins.
But I've only played VI, VII, VIII, IX, X and X-2, an I tried playing I and II but I got stuck.

And Richer in Story telling? x x;;
We do realize that Tidus disapearing in FFX was kind of like when Terra went in FFVI or how about the fact that Bizzaro Sephiroth has two heads, much like Kefka does at the end in boss-ish form.
The later games just rip the story telling and Ideas. =[

You should make that list. Because I know exactly how much FFVI broke the mold and contributed to the RPGs and games of other genres being made today. I didn't say it was a bad game, I just said it wasn't so great for me. I think I'm entitled to that opinion.

Demi-God == Godlike.
He also dresses like a clown, commits genocide, kills his former master, kills espers just for fun (and power), controls The Goddess, Poltergeist, and Doom, which pretty much constitute anything of a divine presence in the game, and builds a tower that only has an entrance from the top, another tower with the ever loyal and mindless servants of PiP, kills grass, kills plants, and radically alters the face of a planet, one which he would likely kill once he were close to death, and has the greatest script/one liners EVER to grace the world. (nothing in the game states that he is immortal, he only SEEMS to be Godly)
