View Full Version : A Colour Question!

(Okay maybe it's a spelling question...)

^_^ Which do you prefer? Colour or color? I prefer colour. It's way better than color. I don't know why....but in America, which is where I live, we spell it "color.(Except for ME!) It sucks. My teacher gave me a 94 instead of 100 because "I spelled 'color' wrong." Wow. :/

COLOUR ROCKS! ^_______^

I was taught to spell it 'color' and I've stuck with it. The 'u' just seems unnecessary...

Actually show her a dictionary which it should say "colour" also. Seriously, you do not deserve to lose a point because she does not recognize other forms of spelling that vary from the Americanized one. I mean even my teachers did not force us to spell the Canadian/British way, we spelt as we felt like it.

To be honest colour > color

The first time I used the [color] tag, I typed: [colour] ^_^;

You left too soon, Dixie.

<rubah> I used to spell british things
<rubah> then I took a keyboarding class
<Bert> you would
<rubah> and got tired of countings off for misspellings
<rubah> so I cured that silly habit quickly

Spelling being so standardized as it is is rather silly though, I mean they used to make up spellings all the time!

But there's nou use in typing coulour as that means you should add an extra u tou every o you type. Hout doug, mang.

I'm so used to not putting a 'u' in it, that I don't know if I ever will...

The one that surprised me most is "mould" I always splet it "mold" but my Biology teacher spells the Britsh way so I learned of it. The only words I tend not to spell in the British way is centre, I usually spell it center.

Leeza

We can use both, but I prefer to use <i>colour</i> and we don't get points deducted here if we spell is the lazy way either. Yes, <i>color</i> is the lazy way because you all just don't want to use an extra keystroke. :cat:

I spell it Colour. It kinda annoys me how Americans take our language, change a few letters, and then call it their own.
"I speak AMERICAN". No, really, you don't. You speak english.

uhhhhhh Americans dont exactly "take" the language. America started from English people, so English is the native language. And, In my four years of living here, I've never heard anyone say they speak "American"

This topic made me look at the words color and colour so long I stopped being able to recognize them and wondered if they were miss-spelled. But I was taught colour.

Frankly, I don't care about how I spell it. I think it is quite stupid that your teacher took off points for saying "colour" instead of "color". If she fails to recognize both as legitimate spellings, then I have doubts about how your teacher got their job.

I lived majority of my life in UK, so I still use those spellings: (ie colour, armour, favourite)

Once I have lived in the US for 11 years, then I go to color, armor, and favorite, etc. :D

Wow...I'll be 21 then.....

It's hard to get the idea across without going through the trouble of recording.
