Ok im pretty sure most of you have never heard of these, but "The Broons" and "Oor Wullie" are quite possibly the most famous comic strips in Scotland. Both written by the great Dudley D Watkins, these comics are written in scots dialect and are set in bonny aul' Scotlan.

The former details the misadventures of a large Glasgow family and the mischief (especially Paw Broon and Gran'paw Broon) that the get into in everyday situations wether it be babysitting or getting locked in a cage at the zoo.

The latter tells of a cheeky scamp of a lad from Dundee, Wullie. Wullie enjoys pissing of policemen, cheating people out of money, and occasionally fighting (much like a normal Scottish lad) but all in all he is a good kid and is always the hero when he needs to be.

Both comics have been going for over 70 years weekly and both have spawned over 3500 strips each !

here are a few examples of each comic, i hope you will enjoy them, if you need any help understanding some of the language i will er translate for you :)

We've got some of the annuals lying around the house. They're fun, family-friendly comics, and distinctly british. Obviously they don't really convey what life is really like in scotland, but hey like I said, light-hearted fun.
