View Full Version : Your Internet Connection

A bored mind makes for a boring topic...

I was remembering when I came back to the forums a couple of days ago, and I was surprised to see that the size and width limit rules for avatars and banners were almost identical to what they were, four years ago. The banner I've attached below is one I use on almost every forum, though I had to create a new one to compensate for the rules on here. :D

Now, this thread isn't to criticise the rules. Their reason for removing my sig was to compensate those who still use slower internet connection... so I'm simply curious... What kind of connection do you use to get online? :D

(I'd have made this a poll, if I wasn't feeling so lazy right now. )

No Internet connection. You guys are more fortunate than you'd think, even if you're on low-end cable or dial-up.

Mine is PLDT DSL, it is 100 and 120 kbps, I don't want Dial-Up Networking because it slows down the Internet.

I've just got 8MB broadband, but it's shared between 3 of us. It's wireless, though, and I'm about as far away from the router as you can get in my house.

Before that, I used the library.

Alltel DSL, wireless to my laptop. It's plenty fast except when I'm downloading stuff.

I'm not sure what I have at home besides it's that generic Verizon DSL plan. It serves it's purpose, but I suppose something faster wouldn't hurt. Right now I'm at school, and they have some high speed thing going on. But there's about 250+ computers sharing it.

56K dialup - its actually not that bad, but I also use the computers @ school a lot.

56k dialup, but from all the stories I've heard it's damn good dialup. In the three or so years I've been using it I've gotten kicked off maybe five times. I connect at 49.2 kbps usually, and my downloads are normally 5k/sec to 7k/sec.

Going back to this from a college lan where I got 700kb/sec to 2mb/sec is hell though, which is why I don't spend nearly as much time online anymore, which may be a blessing in disquise I suppose.

According to my laptop my speed is 54 Mbps. I believe it's lying to me, though. :shifty:

EDIT: Wait, now my mum is on the other connection my speed is 48.0 Mbps. Maybe it isn't lying.

That's most likely the speed of your wireless connection to your router, not your internet connection.

My service is advertised as 3-5 megabit DSL. I think it's usually closer to the 3. However, I had 768 kilobit DSL for a long time (and I thought that was pretty fast) and this seems lightning fast.

I typically download files at 350-400 kilobytes per second, and I'm happy with that.

In Tiajuana I'm using a 512k Cable line. In the states my family has 15meg line and a 1.5meg cable line going into the house. The 15meg line is some service SBC is testing in my neighborhood... So far it is pretty sweet.
