A desperate plea to the mods...

Dear mods,

I respect and appreciate what you do. You keep these forums free of spam, flame wars, and vulgarity. This is an important and seemingly arduous task that some may not recognize the importance of.

That said, I would like to register a complaint. This is specifically about the general FF thread, which is why I placed it here. I will not be upset if it is decided that it would be better suited somewhere else. I feel that this is a legitimate complaint and I have an easy solution to propose. In fact, I HAVE proposed it before, which is why I decided to state this in the form of a thread. It will doubtlessly be noticed quickly this way by any mod passing by, possibly even from being flagged as "wrong forum" or "spam".

My complaint is this. Ever since I joined these forums several years ago, I have seen a new thread pop up every month or two titled "best final fantasy" or "what's your favorite final fantasy?" To me, this seems wasteful of bandwidth and storage space. People doubtlessly vote on multiple "favorite FF" threads, which consumes an unnecessary amount of resources. There are currently 2 unclosed and active threads like this in the forum, and 5 threads that could be construed as similar enough to either merge or close on the first page alone.

This is my proposal; instead of having many "favorite/best ff" threads littering up the general FF forum, why not simply make one official thread and sticky it? It can be a poll. I don't really care. This is just something that ought to be done in the best interests of the entire EoFF community. We have this thread come up MANY times, and yet if two people decide to report similar or related pieces of news in the forums, one of their threads will be closed/merged. I implore you to take similar measures with this subject.

Thats a pretty good Idea. The only thing I would add is every couple of months reset the poll so people who played new games will be able to change there vote without continually bothering the admins to do this. The only problem I could see with it is it would get freakishly long, but they could wipe the thread and remake it after two months, which would also pretty much reset the poll.

I wouldn't mind a stickied "Which is your favourite?" poll that gets updated every six months to a year, and as for the hottest, well, we could have an open (as in, not a poll) thread on that if you guys really feel the need... but often it's a debate of which is hotter: ____ or ____, which is entirely different to "who is the hottest of them all?" so it's really hard to cover all grounds!

You have a good point though. There's only so much to discuss in the FF forums, since any crazy theories (like R=U) have long ago been dismissed, and all the games' secrets are common knowledge nowadays. Having the same threads cropping up every couple of weeks is better than having no threads at all.

The stickied thread seems like the most reasonable option. It's not as though tidusluvr533 would pay attention to the ban anyway, and at least this way the discussion is controlled and compact, instead of being split into a dozen different threads clogging up the forum. Same goes for FAQ threads. The most common questions for each game should be stickied, and labelled PORN FORUM: DO NOT ENTER. That should solve the problem of getting idiots to read the damn thing.

There could be two stickies threads in General FF. One for who's your favorite character, and one for what's your favorite FF. They can be polls that never close and we can watch it to see exciting things suck as FFVII getting an early lead, then FFVI getting one or two votes ahead,and next thing you know FFCII will have a short lead for a while. Use similar example for characters.
