View Full Version : The ultimate in absoludicrous video game propaganda: Star Fox 64

In 1997, subscribers to Nintendo Power magazine were mailed a ten-minute promotional video tape from Nintendo for the purpose of advertising Star Fox 64 and the Rumble Pak. The latter was a revolutionary force-feedback device at the time, and the former was the first game to use it--not to mention one of the best video games of all time.

However, the tape was far from a straight informational feature. On the contrary, what it actually contained was a melodramatic descent into absolute madness, a Lovecraftian tangle of laughing corpses and cannibalistic man-beasts howling cruel omens from the deepest pit of Nintendo of America's headquarters in Redmond, Washington. If you combined all the bad acting, embarrassing commercial depravity, and sheer stupefying insanity on display in both the Zelda Rap and Sega's "blast processing" ads and then multiplied that sum a million times, the result would still not measure up to the abominable horrors to be found in the Star Fox 64 promotional tape. And now, for the consumption and culture of the unwashed masses, some kind soul has finally uploaded it to Google Video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8713019980348903405). Enjoy it, and may God help us all.

That whole video...never should have happened.

But I must say that when I crashed my vehicle I REALLY felt the vibration. And when I used my turbo boosts too!

Sheer. Utter. Genius.

By the way, is it just me, or if you just listen to it it sounds VERY homoerotic.

I remember that! My friend had it. We must've watched it ten times in one night.

I might even still have the Star Fox character and vehicle cards that we split up.

No Mario Dolls were harmed in the making of this video. The ones that made it, anyway.

Is it bad that I totally enjoyed that? Makes me wanna play Starfox 64. Reminds me of something from the 80's. Very awesome, in a cheesey sorta way. The wonders of nostalgia. If we made something that cheesey today, I'd have to throw tomatos at someone. But for some reason I applaud that video

I've seen a commercial for the original Zelda that was a little goofier than that one...but it only lasted about a minute. Nintendo has always created the most bizarre advertisements. :p They sure are entertaining, though. Reminds me of how fun that game was.

True, the ad DID make me think about how many good games the N64 had. I really want to play it now, but mine is broken =(

Yeah, no doubt. Makes me wish I had a Starfox 64 cart, but I always had to play it at my friend's house.

I might have to do some extensive dust-blowin'-off, but man, I wanna get out the ol' 64.

I don't need to watch the video because I have seen it countless times. Sephex had the video and it is hilarious. From when they go nuts from the rumble pack to when they put Mario's head in a vice.

I have also seen the pokemon video and donkey kong video. Both never lived up to the insanity of the starfox one though....pokemons was pretty funny at times.
