View Full Version : The furthest you've ever been from home?

This Tuesday, I'm flying out to New York for a few days. It's something that I've been looking forward to for months (or years, if you count a childish desire to drop a penny off the Empire State Building). It's also the furthest I've ever been from my home in London, and the first time I've ever set foot on another continent, so it's a kind of milestone for me, I suppose. It's really weird to think that once I set foot in the US, every step Westwards is a step further from home than I've ever been before. For some reason, it almost feels like an adventure, albeit an adventure with regular stops for cappucino. :D

Anyway, enough rambling. Time for the actual question: What's the furthest you've ever been from home?

Well, since I have two homes (Denmark and the Philippines) I've traveled a lot between the two. The two countries are pretty much as far away from each other as possible.

There are chemicals to digest that can take you further away from home than Dorothy can dream of.

I've lived all over Australia, I've had lots of different homes. But everywhere I've been the furthest I've gone is Western Australia as from Tasmania, Queensland and Victoria the furthest you can go is the other side of the country xD And from Western Australia, the furthest would be Tasmania.

When I lived in Indonesia I would come back to the United States for the summer. The U.S. wasn't home then, so that's the farthest I've ever been from home.

I think I'm going to win the prize for being the least traveled person here. The furthest Ive ever been, from a small place in England, in Cheshire, that none of you will have ever heard of, is London. Ive never even had a passport!

You want to try playing that game in Britain. It's difficult. There are so many manly women here, its hard to tell which ones are genuine women.

My two 'homes' are at the other end of the world from each other, so with the exception of space travel etc, I've probably gone about as far from home as I could be. Well, I'd have to go to spain to hit the exact spot to be "as far from NZ as possible", I think, but people usually just say the UK & NZ are at other ends of the world anyway.

New Zealand is pretty freaking far from just about anywhere else. Yeah, what BoB said.

India and the United States are as far apart as I can possibly imagine - about 12 timezones apart literally means as far away from each other as possible (at least, longitude wise). Yeah, I've been away from "home" before. The fact that I've never really defined "home" makes the issue less significant, though.

Where I am now. Daegu, South Korea. 14 time zones away from Michigan.Or 10 time zones the other way. :p
