View Full Version : Sad when a forum 'dies'?

The very first forum I joined has sadly 'died.' The 2 admins set up a goodbye section in the forum and it is sad reading the posts from other members. The forum had so many members and had been up for years, but people registered, made 1 or 2 posts and never returned. And lots of people from the forum have moved home, gone to Uni/college, jobs and stopped going. I did for awhile cause I had Uni work and barely found the time to visit.

Its sad because I made so many friends there who I chatted to on MSN and had a laugh with. We helped each other out. It was the first and last place I became a mod too. I enjoyed it because I helped to clean the forum up and ban spammers.

Has anyone else been apart of a big community online and then it 'dies'? I couldnt think of a better term for it.

this is the only forum I tend to look at, and will never die.

No, EoFF was the very first forum I joined and it's still going strong. EoFF is the most popular Final Fantasy forum on the internet.

Well, I went to this one forum a lot last year. It wasn't big or anything, but it was realy fun, until lala and then we killed it. That was pretty depressing, and disappointing. But it's much better now. ;)

Not exactly the same thing as dying, I know, but somewhat similar.

I give this place a year, maybe two, tops.

Yes, I feel your pain!
I once was a member of a forum that died out :(
No, wait a minute I forgot I was just Banned!!! :mad2:

Eh, it could be worse. The existing members could just filter out and be replaced by a bunch of immature jerks, making a mockery of the place and everything it stands for. This has happened plenty of times in the past.

Before EoFF dies we'll all meet in Feedback and commit e-suicide. We'll then proceed to go outside and enjoy life.

Yep, one forum closed then re opened on a new name then died, there werent very many members, but we loved those forums so much that we were all very gutted when it died.

Before EoFF dies we'll all meet in Feedback and commit e-suicide. We'll then proceed to go outside and enjoy life.I will be very disappointed if we don't actually do this. Assuming I'm still around, of course. Which is very unlikely as I will have a life by then and will have better things to do than hang around on the internet all day. :shifty:

That's lies and you know it, you can't EVER enjoy life, it's not in your programming.

Speaking of e-suicide, I wonder if someone's ever REALLY commited e-suicide. Like, no more website of mine dedicated to R = U, I'll slit my HTML codes! No more internet, I'll cry into my modem, etc.

Well, I was in two forums, they died the same time :(

After a week, the administrators joined forces and now a more powerful forum is alive, and I'm one of the three administrators

It is like a reborn

Well, this is my first and favorite forum... and I was here when it was still fairly small, but I lurves it very much.

I was on another forum that died recently, then was sort of reborn, then died again, then recently got reborn again... It seems to happen a lot.

Oh, and I prefer e-genocide to e-suicide. Much more artistic.

It may be the largest Final Fantasy based forum, but I doubt that many of the regulars touch the Final Fantasy related sections any more.

Yeah. Mine. :p But it's okay, it was never very big anyway. I'm planning a restart in the near future, and hopefully I'll be able to attract some members who are honestly good and interesting people. It wasn't really that sad, since I'd stopped paying any attention to it and saw the demise a good six months ahead of time.

My gr00vy forums died, twice.

My main forum, PD, goes through boring periods of inactivity, but always bounces back. It's starting to bounce back again, and I just got my 6000th post! :)

I'm in this one forum currently that is small, and I really like it, but it's gotten REAL stagnant, and I predict future e-suicide for it and all it's members, even me...

I want to be there.
I never seriously tried to commit Internet suicide, though I admit it would be truly good for me. I spend way too much time in front of the damn box.

I've never joined a forum that's died per-se... but I abandoned one in particular a long time again, that ended up totally collapsing in upon it's own over-inflated ego. The forum in particular is Anime League (http://www.animeleague.net/forums/portal.php). You know there's something wrong when a forum is more well known for the admin's love of "younger" girls than anything else. For the last couple of years now, it's been nothing more than a hive of wanton drama whoring and teenage e-prostitution.

Go there if you need a good laugh at the expense of other people's stupidity. Look out for the members "Mewski" and "FreeSaiyan" especially.

I used to semi vacate Advent Children.net (http://forums.adventchildren.net)'s forums, but since the release of the movie, the place has just... shriveled. It may as well be dead, for what it matters now.

The fun thing about dead forums is that you can spam the living daylights out of it without anyone noticing until a few months later. Then they'll spam the living daylights out of it. Then I ban them, and remove my spam.

Either that or since I'm checking these forums a lot more frequently it seems that people are posting more slower than usual.

I know my favourite forum is going to die. There are only about 10 or 15 regular posters there. It's really too bad.

Mine seems to be very dead...

I was once part of a forum that was really strong and thriving forum one day, and gone the next day.

In the following days, it was found out that the owner of the board had pulled the plug on the board and was selling it on Ebay, posts and all. He wasn't just selling the site, he was selling other people's posts. >_>

But yeah, that forum came back under new leadership and it's still active today even though I don't visit it much anymore. But yeah, for those initial few days after the first forum disappeared, I was pretty pissed off.

never joined a forum that died. i just end up:

1) being an extremely non-active member.
2) forum is in "hiatus" or under maintenance, etc.
3) ...what a small community this is!
