Fushigi Yugi worth spending money on?

I've heard so many mixed opinions about this anime. And I'm hunting for something new to throw money at, so can anyone who's seen it give me their opinion on it? What's so great or so overrated about it? What did you hate and/or love about it? Is it worth a penny?

Any thoughts are much appreciated. :)

This is one of my favorite animes. Romance, action, drama- it's got it all in excellent context and execution. Go see it!!

[Azure Chrysanthemum]

I started getting it, it's a decent series. I finished buying the series for relatively cheaply, but I've still yet to finish it. If you're into romance and cheese, go for it. It can be rather hilarious at times, and as I understand it gets really depressing in the second season.

[Kawaii Ryûkishi]

It starts out with some interesting ideas, but around the second half it starts to seriously break down to the point where half of every episode is devoted to Miaka fretting about Tamahome. Not fun.
