View Full Version : Ultima Shadow's and Trumpet Thief's SMRPG challange!

I've had a hard time focusing a lot on videogames lately because of school... however... a SMRPG challange takes priority. xD Nah, but seriously... it has been less work in school the past few days and in 2 weeks I'll get some time off so at the moment I really DO have enough time on my hands for this. So... yeah... this is the PERFECT moment for a SMRPG challange!

The challange will be:
1)ONLY fight bosses. No unecessary EXP at all, so don't even use invincibility stars.
2) Standard equipment. You may only get the very first equipment for each character. After that, the equipment may NEVER be changed.

Trumpet Thief helped coming up with this challange.

So far, these are the ones who will attempt the challange:

chaos: Yaep, I'll be trying it. I've done something similar in SMRPG before, but never anything this hard. I'll post as I get farther.

Rubedo: The fun part will be that the difficulty will greatly grow as I get farther. I can't just level the hell up and just sail through.

chaos: Anybody else attempting the challenge, please post, and give us up to date information on how you're doing.

Albedo: How in the hell are we supposed to pass that bloody Yaridovich?

Trowa: Beats me. :p

Albedo: :mad2:

Um, Red essence? If you can play that game in the casino yet.

I\'ll do it too. I\'ll start now. Geno Whirl 9999 will be great for Exor.

edit: He knows about timed hits. Watch it or he\'ll punch your lights out. LUA

I wasted two mushrooms on the hammer bros.

Yeah, I spent forever beating on croco, and he just healed 60 HP. DAMN YOU WEIRD MUSHROOM!

Trumpet Thief

chaos: One error. You are only allowed to use THE FIRST set of equipment you get (hammer, pants, shirt) or else it is pretty much impossible. Forgot to note that.

Rubedo: Me and Ultima are gonna start the challenge tomorrow.

Finally beat croco. Due to save-state abuse and the fact his bombs miss often. I pity those of you using a console. He\\\'s one tough cookie.

EDIT If your good at timed defense, mack goes down without much of a fight. It the easiest win so far.

Ultima Shadow
03-23-2006, 09:07 AM
Bah, save-state abuse is cheap. :p

And that's nothing I'll be able to use anyways. But because of the fact that so many attacks can be guarded against because of timed defend (you can take 0 dammage from all the Hammer Guys attacks thanks to timed defend, for example), I'm sure it will be possible anyways. And the whole point is that it SHOULD be as hard as possible, you know. ;)

Not insanely difficult like Croco. This is only my second playthrough.

Trumpet Thief

chaos: You'll be surprised how hard it is to actually dodge the creature's around ya. :)

Albedo: Damn spiny's are all over the place...

Very well... here's my progress so far:

After the intro thingy with Bowsers keep and all that stuff, I went to beat the Hammer Brothers. And even though it has been a while since I played SMRPG last time, my timing is still in perfect shape. I beat them on my first try, taking a total of 12 dammage. I took the first one out with 2 Jumps, and then I Jumped a 3th time on the second Hammer Brother. After that, I just did normal attacks until he went down. I managed to block every singel attack they threw at me... and most of their attacks, I even managed to block completely, taking no dammage at all. The Hammer Brothers were the first (and maybe the last) pushover so far. Yay! The hammer! The weapon I'll be using for the rest of the game!

Now, I entered Mushroom Kindom. Time to get the equipment that I'll keep for the rest of the game... the shirt and the pants!

I also spent the rest of my coins on a few Mushrooms, Pick Me Up's and 1 Honey Syrup.

So... next up was Croco. But FIRST, there's something VERY important to do... and that saved my day later on. You MUST get the Kerokerocola which is inside a hidden Treasure Box in Bandit's Way. I'll explain why later.
And I don't know if it was just pure luck but... Croco spammed Normal Attacks and only used 4 Bombs in the entire battle. So I even managed to beat Croco on my first try. A Bomb= 1 Kill, as long as it doesn't hit a defending Mallow (Mario got less defense, so I don't know if he could have survived a bomb even when defending). However... the best thing to do with Mallow in this battle is using items and defend anyways so... yeah, 1 of the bombs actually hit Mallow while he was defending. And another one missed. So out of the 4 Bombs used, only 2 KOed any of my characters. And I had about 4 Pick Me Up's in this battle. However... saying that Croco was easy would be a lie. It was a lot harder to block his normal attacks completely. Most of the time, I only defended for -50% dammage. I only managed to take 0 dammage about 2 or 3 times. So the Mushrooms come in handy. Mario would take 9-10 dammage if he defended, so I usually had to spend a mushroom whenever he got attacked. Mallow only took 4 dammage, though, so he was a perfect meat shield. After spamming Jumps (I had 2 Honey Syrups and I had taken the all the hidden flower tabs up to this point) and doing a few normal attacks with the Hammer, Croco finally went down.

So... now, I got 10 coins from the Croco battle. Yeah... and almost all my items has been used up. In this condition, there's no way I could have taken on Mack. However... one of the few items I have left are... yeah, that's right! The Kerokerocola which I can sell for 200 coins! So... I sell my Kerokerocola, buy 10 Pick Me Up's, 10 Mushroom's and 5 Honey Syrup's. And I still have a few coins left for later on.

Note: Mario is still on Level 1 and mallow on level 2.

I fought Mack, and even HE gets beaten on my first try. I somehow managed to block every singel physical attack from those small jump-dudes and they only used Drain once. However... that one time they used drain, it did 15 dammage to poor Mario. And I really wouldn't say that Mack was the easiest battle so far. In fact, I think he was atleast just as tough as Croco. When Mack used Flame Wall, it did 15 dammage to Mario and 10 dammage to Mallow. And they both only got 20 as max HP. "Flame" did 19 dammage to Mario, so it left him with only 1 HP left... and it did 12 dammage to Mallow. Whenever Mack was alone, Mallow healed Mario with Mushrooms after every Flame Wall while Mario would use Jump. Whenever Mack's next move was another Flame Wall, I would revived Mallow with Mario and then heal Mario with Mallow. If it was Flame and and hit Mario, I just Jumped with Mario and healed Mario with Mallow. And finally, if Flame would hit and KO Mallow, I would Revive Mallow and then defend with Mallow. When the small dudes are up, just use 2 Thunderbolts.

After this battle, I leveled up for the very first time. Mario went to level 2 and Mallow to level 3. I picked "Special Attack + Special Defense" with both.

Edit: And yeah, I agree with you there, TT. That's almost the toughest part so far. xD And when you just fail to run away from the battles after accidently encountering an enemy. Ouch! >_<

Trumpet Thief

chaos: Okay, I already told you how hard it was to dodge enemies, but I mean really, IT'S HARD. Especially that stupid little goomba running up when I'm hitting the treasure chest.

Rubedo: The Goomba Bros. Were especially easy. All you need is timed hits. It is awfully time consuming though.

chaos: I'm on my way to Mushroom Kingdom. I took the hammer too, the only weapon I'm allowed to keep. :)

Just wait until you get to the sewers. >_<

Really... those rats and ghosts are just SOOOO freaking annoying!

Cruise Control
03-23-2006, 09:46 PM
Not as anoying as the bandits.
Um, nothing so detailed. I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m in Kero, damn those rats.

Belome is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO easy. Come with 5 Honey Syrups, and 5 mushrooms, and you\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ll be fine.

Just Jump, and mallow uses honey syrups and mushrooms as necessary. But, if you run out of FP and Belome scarecrows Mallow, just attack. He kept doing it, I only used three honey syrups and more importantly no save states.

I divide my items:
10 mushrooms
5 Pick me ups
5 Honey Syrups
3 Able Juices

SELL THE WALLET to have some cash.
Yeah, if you go in like I did, you will still have 2 Honey syrups (I didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t get any freebies) and 1-2 mushrooms.

The nok-nok shell fetched 50 coins, so I replenished my items, then upped my count to 10 honey syrups.

THE WOODS ARE A LIVING HELL.

I think we should keep a game over count, and have a competition starting at Kero. I have 16 so far.

I can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t get past the third screen of the maze because of those damn bees, and thornet is a 1HKO.

I finally made it, now to fight bowyer.
Bowyer killed me. Damn locking the item button.

Beat Bowyer Second try.

Strat
Mario uses jump, Mallow items, Geno attack.
Jump should be in the 45 range, a timed geno hit will do 40.
If you ever run out of mushrooms, have mallow use HP Rain, and Mario feed him Honey Syrups.

You can run from croco\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s flunkies, I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m trying to do so now, without dying.

Croco 2 is unbeatable. He stealls all your items once he hits 350, and after that, every attack is a 1HKO. If it wasn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t I could use HP Rain.

Wait... He always steals from Mallow, maybe if Mallow was defending...

Ultima Shadow
03-24-2006, 04:49 PM
I just defeated him on my second try. The second Croco, that is. I'll tell you how it was done later in this post.

So... I finally made it trough the Sewers and fought the second pushover so far in this challange. Seriously... Belome was a joke. Almost as easy as the Hammer Brothers.

So... next, I went trough Rose Way. No bosses, but a lot of annoying enemies to avoid. I didn't really bother getting the coin boxes, as they are being guarded by enemies. It's simply not worth risk.

So... I restocked on a few items in Rose Town before entering the forest... where I got my second Game Over so far. And yes, the 2 Game Overs so far were both because I accidently runned into an enemy and just wasn't able to escape before I got owned.

Bowyer wasn't too bad, actually. Another boss that I beat on my first try. But that may be because he NEVER used that Electric attack that hits all the characters. 90% of his attacks were, in fact, just normal attacks which I could survive by blocking... even though I usually just got a -50% block.
I defended with Mario and Mallow almost all the time. And whenever someone got KOed or were at too low HP, I revived/healed with them. A few times, I threw in a Jump with Mario, though. Geno was only doing normal attacks trough the entire battle.

Bothe Mario and mallowed leveled up. I picked Special Attak/Def with Mario and HP with Mallow, simply because Mallow would get a +6HP bonus. I figured that would be better than a +1 boost in S.Atk/Def. I'll try to focus as much as possible on Special Atk/Def as possible, though. Because all physical attacks from enemies can be blocked, while specials can't. Also, the characters physical attacks will be useless later on, so you'll have to rely a lot more on Special Attacks like Super Jump.

Next up is Croco 2 in Molleville. The first BOSS that I got a Game Over on. First, I went back to Rose Town to pick up Geno's first weapon, the Finger Shot, though. And I also bought him a Mega Cape in Molleville. So there... now Geno's equipment won't change for the rest of the game.

The first battle against Croco went pretty much like this: Geno attacks, Mario Jumps, Mallow defends. Croco attacks physically, I block for half dammage. Repeat. And whenever someone was at low HP, I healed them with mushrooms.
Bombs= instant KO's as long as they don't hit Geno. But you'll just have to use Pick Me Up's. However... then, Croco stole my items. THIS is when it gets tough. Croco starts "throwing enemies" at you, for a great deal of dammage. Mario will die in one hit, even if he's defending. And I never managed to get in any 0 dammage blocks... so he got KOed pretty early. Geno and mallow could take one of those without getting KOed, but soon my FP would run out, which would mean no more HP Rains... which means that I'm screwed. Soon, they both got KOed.

Anyways... I didn't just attempt him directly. I knew that I had to come up with a solid strategy. Geno is your main man in this battle since he's the only one who really can survive during the second part. Even Mallow dies in 2 hits, if he blocks. And if he fails to block, 1 hit will be enough. So... how do you beat Croco?
Well... I decided that what I really needed was a nice boost in Defense and Attack power! So...

...I got 4 Frog Coins and went to Tadpole Pond and bought 1 Bracer and 1 Energizer. So... in the very begining of the battle, I used them both on Geno with Mario and Mallow. From now on, Geno could easily take anything Croco would throw at him, while Geno himself would deal about 50-60 dammage every turn. So... bye ,bye Croco!

After the battle against Croco 2, I went back out of the cave to save and restock on a few items. And that's where I currently am. :greenie:

ps: A total of 3 Game Overs so far.

chaos: I've accomplished quite a bit. I went to Mushroom Kingdom, was able to buy a few Pick-Me-Ups (Mushroom Way gave me a hell lot of Mushrooms), I met with Mallow (Good Memories), and I went on to catch that darn thief, Croco.

Rubedo: The area where we were chasing him was actually pretty easy, because I never once got caught be a monster by mistake. Although, it still took a while to get him into battle. When I did fight him....

chaos: My god! That weird mushroom pissed me off so bad. And his hits did damage all right. Major damage.

Trowa: We shut the game off, and tried again today. I guess Lady Luck was on our side. It might've been barely, but hey, we beat him.

Albedo: And now it's on to that fool, Mack. Haha, ma belle peche won't settle for less...

chaos: I sure hope he ain't too hard.

Ultima Shadow

chaos: I sure hope he ain't too hard.In my opinion, he was just as tough as Croco. But that may be because I got so lucky with Croco. Did you remember to get that Kerokerocola, by the way? :greenie:

ps: After getting Mallow, running from battles becomes a bit easier since you get 2 chanses to run every round. With Geno in the party as well, it becomes even easier.

I took a leaf out of Ultima Shadow\'s book, but I splurged for a crystaline, and made sure everyone was at full HP before he hit 400, and I got a freebie crystaline for later. Croco was defeated. KO count. 18

Ultima Shadow
03-24-2006, 11:29 PM
Ok, I beat Punshinello. He wasn't too tough, as long as you manage to block the bombs... but he DID KO my party once with an unexpected Sandstorm... which I hardly think I've ever seen him use before. But he went down on my second try.

Then, I went trough Boosters Pass, which took me about 25 seconds. I, obiviously, didn't encounter any enemies.

Then, it's time for Booster's Tower. I finally get Bowser! And yes, I DID bother getting the Masher (weapon for Mario), just so that I can sell it for 80 nice coins.

I went trough most of Booster's Tower without any real trouble, but then.... suddenly, got into a battle with one of those blue fireballs... and you can't escape from those battles! So I had to restart. So... even though there's a few normal coins and Frog Coins on the floor... DON'T try to get them. Ignore them, and just try to make it past that room. If you get into a battle with those blue fireballs, all you can do is restart.

Anyways... Grate Guy and Knife Guy were pretty tough, and I got Game Over twice on them. Meteor Blast is a pain. On my thirth try, they ran out of FP, though. And Bowser and Geno could easily take a few blocked physical hits. Geno's Geno Beam was extremely usefull against Knife Guy, as it could do up to 110 dammage! Mario was pretty useless in the battle, though. He just got KOed all the time.

So... I went to Marrymore and got Bowser's equipment aka the Happy Shell and Chomp Shell.

At the moment, everyone's levels are:

Mario: 4
Mallow: 4
Geno: 7
Bowser: 8

I'll take it a bit easy for now. I've played a total of almost 4 hours of SMRPG today. xD

Don\\\'t forget the red essence in Booster Pass. I believe it\\\'s one of two. You\\\'ll need it for Yardovich.

Punchinello was a pushover. I ran out of pick-me ups between him and croco2 though. So it was touch and go. KO count: 19.

Ultima Shadow
03-26-2006, 12:58 PM
Nope. You won't need to waste any Red Essences on Yardovich. He's, in fact, far from being as hard as I thought he would be. :p

Super Update:

So... I beat the Cake. It wasn't too hard. The Cake's defense seriously sucks, so even with such a weak party, I managed to beat it quickly... with Power Blast and Crystaline, of course. My 2 new fav items. ;) I just smacked away with physical attacks and healed with Frog Drinks and Mushrooms whenever necessary.

I finally got Peach. And unlike all the other characters, she actually starts off with her standard equipment.

Then I went to the Star Hill, and only encountered 1 singel enemy, which I managed to run away from before it could attack.

Next up, is the Sunken Ship. The enemies here are really annoying. It's hard to make it trough without encountering atleast a few, and the ghosts even gets to attack before you do, so whenever you encounter a ghost, you'll get attacked before you even get to attempt to run! Still, I managed to get trough without getting Game Over even once, thanks to Peach and Bowser's great defense (great compared to the other character's defense, that is).

The Squid was the first boss in a long time that Mario actually could deal some serious dammage on. His Fire Orb is really effective against the magic-weak tentacles. I died once on this boss, because I ran out of Pick Me Up's. Stupid Ink Blast. On my other try, I managed to beat it though. Peach's Group Hug is absolutely AWESOME!

Mario levels up and learns Super Jump! Yay!

After the Squid, I went back to Seaside Town and bought 2 Bad Mushrooms and 2 Ice Bombs. Then, I had to go back all the way to beat up Jonathan Jones. And actually... I'd recomend buying 3 Bad Mushrooms.

Always let one of the Sharks escape, in order to get less EXP.

Jonathan Jones is easy. Really easy... as long as you don't run out of both FP and healing items. And that's why I bought 2 Bad Mushrooms. Because... Jonathan Jones got an absolutely INSANE defense. Bad Mushrooms will deal an instant 50 dammage (25 after he powers up his defense even more) AND poison him for a while. The battle will still take some serious time, though. Geno levels up and learns Geno Boost! Yay!

Yardovich... I THOUGHT this battle would be insanely hard. So... before I fought him, I went to the Forest and got some Frog Coins and bought another Crystaline and Powerblast. And... then I went back and fought Yardovich. Peach starts off by using Crystaline. Yardovich attacks, and uses Water Blast! To my suprise, even Mario survives... even though he only had 2 HP left. Once again... I love Crystaline. Even with Powerblast, I can't deal more than 50 dammage with Bowser's timed hits... and both Mario and Peach are completely useless as far as offense goes. Actually... Mario's probably better off dead in this battle. And even though he had Full HP and was under the effect of Crystaline, he got killed by one "Willy Wisp". I revived Mario twice, but he just died again before he even got to do anything... so I just let him stay KOed. The thing is... thanks to the effect of Crystaline and Peach's Group Hug, both Peach and Bowser didn't get KOed even once. And after a while, Yardovich ran out of FP! And once Yardovich's FP was gone, I had absolutely no trouble taking him down... even though it took a while.

Yup, that's my progress so far.:greenie:

So you're not going to just plow through the remainder of the game with Geno Whirl?Well... Geno Whirl only works on normal enemies and on Exor. And since I'll only fight bosses, that wouldn't be possible anyways. Besides, I'm not even sure if I'll get Geno Whirl by the time I reach Exor, since I won't level up much.

Ultima you bastard. How dare you have an easy time with the cake. I cried once. I got 10 game overs, and I was abusing save states. All he would do was Blizzard, Sandstorm, and Diamond Saw, in that order. Luckily Bowser was in teh middle.

Yardo does sound easy.

Yardo does sound easy.Like I said, Crystaline and Power Blast ftw. :p If you've got some frog Drinks ready as well, Blizzard won't be too much of a problem. And it didn't actually get to use Sandstorm. It used a few phsycical attacks instead, which are easily blocked. :p

Edit:

Ok, here's another update:

After beating Yardovich, I went back to the forest to to get some frog coins and buy another Crystaline. But for some reason, I just didn't bother getting a Power Blast... which was a stupid misstake.
So... I had to fight some forced normal battles at Land's End. The Ants are so damn annoying. They can be killed with one singel Super Jump, but they can usually kill one of your characters as well, with one singel Carni Kiss. I underestimated and got killed by the ants once. But the ants are still pushover compared to Belome. Belome 2 is by far the hardest boss so far.

He's the first boss (or enemy for that matter) to kill me more than once... he even killed my 3 times, even though I had Crystaline. And seriously... don't use Bowser in this battle. The "Bowser-copies" are undefeatable. They are immune to superjumps, and got such an insane defense that it would take about 1 hour to take one of them down! Atleast, without Power Blast. But even with Powerblast, it would probably take about 30 min. Everything did either 0 or 1-2 dammage on them, except Bowser's phsycical attacks and Marios Fire Orbs which both did about 6-8 dammage. Also, their own attacks are extremely powerful. Even though they can be blocked easily, they will still do an insane dammage as long as you don't block them COMPLETELY and take 0 dammage.

So... basically, just bring Geno instead. Also, Mario is your best attacker in this battle thanks to his Super Jump. But Mario is also weak and gets KOed easily, thus losing the effect of Crystaline and Power Blast. But thanks to Geno Boost, you can give him a new Defense and Attack boost in one singel turn, which is great. Beware, though. The Geno Clones are far from being as annoying as the Bowser Clones, but they still got some really powerful attacks. Another annoying thing is that Belome always will put your characters to sleep.
When I finally beated Belome on my 4th try, though. It was because I managed to kill him with 3 Super Jumps alone. So I guess you can pretty much say that timing with Super Jumps is the key to win this battle.

Um, I was playing this morining, I had to go so I save stated. I killed all the tentacles, and am killing the main body of King Calamari.

DAMN. I'm stuck. I'm at the battle with five pirates, I'm about to use my bad mushrooms. How much HP do they have (Red Bandannas)?

Ultima Shadow
03-29-2006, 08:31 PM
I think they have about 150 HP. What Party do you use? Peach should be in the party for healing purpose. Her Group Hug is awesome. Just use Bowser's timed physical attacks and Mario's normal "Jump" until they go down. Focus at one of them at a time. When there's only 1 left, it will escape. Don't waste Bad Mushrooms in these battles... you'll need them for Jonathan Jones.

Also, Smilax is BY FAR the toughest boss so far. He makes Belome 2 look like a patetic wimp.

I accidentally save stated stuck on the corner of a wall, and I have to fight an encounter to get out.

Should I win the encounter or load a four hour-old save state. Can't you escape? And at what point in the game are you? Still in the Sunken Ship?

Anyways... since you're using save states, I guess you can make up for the EXP you gain from that battle by buying that Lucky-Egg thingy and then use it in the end of a boss battle and make sure you get the chanse to get double EXP, but instead make sure you get "NO EXP"... if you know what I mean.

Edit: Just beat Smilax on my 7th try!

Edit2: Ok, those 2 Ice Bombs that I bought a long time ago were really, really useful. Seriously... let's just say that I'm really happy I bought them and didn't waste them earlier.

I got to Birdo... and it's bloody impossible to do any dammage at all with physical or special attacks. She got 800 HP, and everything except Super Jump would do 0-2 dammage. Super Jump will do about 1 dammage for every hit... so that's seriously not really an option either. I actually thought that I was stuck for a while, but then I remembered those Ice Bombs. Those alone wouldn't be enough to finish Birdo, but with Power Blast on my characters, they would atleast do some serious dammage. Now, the thing is... I got really, really lucky. I got a freebie twice! So I was able to use Ice Bomb a total of 4 times! And since every Ice Bomb would do more than 200 dammage, and Birdo only got 800, that was enough to finish her. From now on, Ice Bombs officially rules!

Hehe, lucky for you, I haven't been able to play because of school for a while. So chanses are you'll get ahead of me. :p

However... I got some time today... and I've now just entered the Barrel Volcano.

Dodo and Valentina were even tougher than Smilax. I got 8 Game Overs on this boss. The only thing you really need to worry about is status effects like Sleep. But Valentina got 2 moves that inflicts sleep on your entire party. And if your entire party is asleep, you're dead. The Dodo-duel wasn't too bad. I just had Bowser fight him with a Bracer and Energeizer.

I haven't even thought about getting the Star Egg yet. It will without a doubt be the most useful item you'll ever get, if you get it. But I'll try to atleast get out of the Volcano and beat the Axem Rangers before getting it.

Okay, so it seems like I'm the only one who's still doing this. Ah well...

The Czar dragon was no pushover. Even with Crystaline, Water Blast would leave Mario with only 1 HP left if he had full HP before the attack. And the rest of the party members wouldn't be in a very good shape either. Sure, all I had to do was fully recover the perty with a Group Hug... but then, the Czar Dragon started to summon those small magma balls that would self-destruct at my party members, causing heavy dammage even when blocked... then a singel Water Blast would pretty much mean instant Game Over. It was extremely hard to do any serious dammage to the first form. I had to use a Rock Candy twice because of this, but luckily I got a freebie both times. Once in the second form, Bowser's and even Peach's physical attacks could do some decent dammage, and eventually, Czar Dragon's second form ran out of FP so then I could pretty much just sit back and press the physical attack button over and over again.

Now, after finally beating the Czar dragon, I finally started to regret that I didn't get that stupid Star Egg item. The Axem Rangers caused me a lot more trouble than any other boss so far. Axem Black would always get the first strike, he would always strike twice, and whenever he used a bomb (which he did pretty often) it would always be an instant-kill. Ouch. On top of that, Axem Green's Meteor Blast and Solidfy would do almost as much dammage to my entire party as the Czar Dragon's Water Blast did. The other 3 Axem Rangers were nowhere near as bad as Axem Black and Axem Green, but they couldn still kill even a Crystaline'd Bowser in 2 hits. So... after a few attempts, I went the whole way back, out of the Volcano, and got myself 4 Rock Candies. Yup, it seemed like there was no other way. But even with the Rock Candies, these guys couldn't be taken lightly. The Breaker Beam would instant-kill Mario, so I didn't bother reviving him. I just had Bowser attack and Peach heal with Group Hug during that part of the battle.

Next stop: Bowser's keep! :greenie:

I will update soon. I've just been busy with school and crap lately, so I've not been able to get any futher than last time. I'm still just about to enter Bowser's Keep. But hopefully, I'll get some time later today.

Edit: Okay, so I finally got the star egg. Since you has to fight a Pirana Plant that you normaly would have been able to avoid, you must use the Lucky Jewel in that battle (I sold the Lucky Jewel afterwards). And then, after spending a whole lot of time playing Grate Guy's little annoying mini game, I finally got the Star Egg. Also, after getting the Star Egg, I sold the bright card to that old guy in Marrymore for 10 Frog Coins, which I spent on 2 Crystalines and 2 Power Blasters.

Now, off to Bowser's Keep!

All the puzzels and stuff are just like in a normal playtrough, except this time around you must avoid choosing the battle doors (door 2 and door 5). You'll get a lot of useful items in here. Almost TOO many useful items. I had to throw away 2 Max Mushrooms and 1 Royal Syrup in order to make place for Kerokerocolas, Fire Bombs and Rock Candies etc.

Anyways... the first boss battle is really up to you whenever it's hard or not. If you choose to waste all your Rock Candies, it's pice of cake. However... wasting Rock Candies unless you really has to is not what I would suggest. In other words, I choosed the slightly harder way and used the Star Egg instead. As usual, Power Blast and Crystaline were both used in this battle. Luckily, I got a freebie with both so I still have 2 left of each. Magikoopa took 3 tries. The last time (the time I won the battle), he only summoned the Jinx Clone. Oh well... while Magikoopa was a decent battle, he couldn't even be compared to Valentina + Dodo and the Czar Dragon... and even less the Axem Rangers.

...now Exor on the other hand... that's another story. Let's just say Boomer was pretty much a pushover, even though I really, really needed the extra Crystaline and Power Blast on him. But Exor killed my entire party with one singel blow. Corona= Ouch. >_<

...oh yeah, and Star Egg rules, by the way. Whatever you do, GET IT before Bowser's Keep.

Okay, it seems like I was just unlucky the first time around, because Exor went down on my 5th try. Don't get me wrong, though. Exor IS really tough... and the reason I beat him is probably only because I spent 3 Rock Candies and a Fire Bomb on him. The eyes (atleast one of them) are easily destroyed with Super Jump, and as soon as Exor's protection is gone you can just hit him with Rock Candies for 300 dammage each (party must be Power Blast'ed). Aurora Beams + Corona can really screw you up, though.

Anyways... now I've finally reached the Factory. In other words, I'm close to the end of this challange.

Ok, I just beat that annoying clock. Seriously... the bells are spamming Dark Stars while the clock puts everyone to sleep, turns everyone into mushrooms, or instant-KO's everyone but Bowser and Geno (under the effect of Crystaline) with Corona. If the clock manage to turn everyone into mushrooms, you're screwed. When I finally beat the clock, I was lucky since Petal Blast missed 2 of my 3 characters (iy hit Geno but missed Mario and Peach).

Yeah, I've actually replaced Bowser with geno for a while. Geno Boost is simply much more useful than Bowser's high HP and strength. 1 Crystaline and Power Blast in every boss fight simply isn't enough anymore. Characters WILL die in battles now, and then you NEED to get their boosts back after reviving them.

Earth Link and the 2 weird Clown-like dudes were pretty tough, but still much easier than the clock. The fighter-dude goes down insanely fast thanks to Super Jumps, but the mage-dude must be taken care of with the use of Items. Even though he's a mage and thus "weak to physical attacks", your party's absolutely patetic attack power won't do much good. Oh, and I actually used a Kerokerocola in this battle! OMG! :greenie:

Yup, that's it for now. Not much left until I reach Smithy himself.

Ultima Shadow

Ok, so I fought those 3 factory dudes, and I didn't have any problem with any of them... except the last one, MAN HE WAS SO ANNOYING!!! :p

Then, I had to fight an even tougher opponent. The ninja chef and his machine-monster thingy who can use Breaker Beam. As soon as the ninja dude is gone, to battle is really easy. But as long as the ninja dude is still there, it's insanely tough. A pretty weird battle, were you constantly pray that the ninja only will use blockable attacks, and then you pray that you will successfully block them. Otherwise, the ninja's attacks= OHKO.

Anyways... after a few attempts, I finally beat that annoying thing... and the path to Smithy is finally open.

However... there's a small problem. Smithy will always get the first strike, and he will always use "Sledge" on your un-Crystalined party. My Geno will survive with exactly 1 HP left. Mario and Peach both dies. So... I basically start off the battle with 1 character with only 1 HP left. Ouch. This problem can quickly be solved though, but it's still a big handicap. After a very few turns, Smithy summoned one of those small bounch-dudes. The bounch-dude use Sword Rain, and then Smithy used Sledge. Geno survived with 1 HP left. Yeah... and then I didn't last long, so I got Game Over.

After my first failed battle with Smithy, I decided to get out of the factory and pick up the last 2 Red Essences, which you get in one of the dreams in Nimbu's Land.

Now, I'll just return to Smithy and keep trying.

Ok, I'm officially done with this challange. Smithy finally went down.

The first part is actually harder than the last part, because of the bounch-dudes that Smithy summons. So it's perfectly okay to use half your Red Essences in the first part of the battle. And seriously... the Star Egg is pure gold... however, unlike some other battles, you CAN do major dammage to Smithy without it. I don't know how well it works against Smithy's first form, since I didn't bother trying it out. However... against the tank-head in Smithy's second form, Super Jump works great and can do some serious dammage. Far more than Star Egg.

The battle went pretty much like this:

First Form:
Smithy uses Sledge, and everyone dies exept Geno who only got 1 HP left. Geno revives Peach, who revives Mario, who uses Crystaline. Smithy attacks Peach, and I half-dammage blocks the attack. Geno uses Geno boost on Mario, Peach heals with Group Hug, Mario uses Star Egg.

Then, Smithy summons the first bounch-dude. Luckily, the bounch-dude attacks normaly instead of using Sword Rain. I 0-dammage block the attack and then Smithy uses Mega Drain on Peach. Geno uses Geno Boost on himself, Peach uses Red Essence on herself and Mario uses Red Essence on himself. Bounch-dude attacks with Swod Rain, followed up by Smithy's Sledge. Geno survives with 1 HP left, Mario and Peach are unaffected. Geno uses Star Egg, Peach heals Geno, Mario uses Rock Candy and bounch-dude dies. After this, the battle went pretty much the same, except I didn't need to waste any more Red Essences. I wasted another Rock Candy, though. It didn't take too long before Smithy's first form went down.

Second Form:
First face was the Tank-Head. It instant-kills anyone but a defense-boosted Geno in 1 hit unless it miss. However... about 35% of its attacks missed. I discovered that Mario could do almost 400 dammage with Super Jump on this head, which was a pleasant suprise. So after discovering this, I used a Red Essence on Mario the next time the Tank Head appeared, to prevent him from dying while dealing insane dammage with his jumps. I even got 2 Freebies with Red Essence. But really... unless it's against the Tank-Head or the Wizard Head's Dark Star, Red Essence wasn't really needed. Group Hug took care of all the dammage dealt to my party as long as they didn't get instant-KOed. Also, when the Box-Head appeared, I used a Red Essence on Peach just in case, to prevent her from getting any of those handicaps that prevents her from using Group Hug. then finally, Smithy went down in his Tank-Form, getting jumped on by Mario.

SMRPG challange finished! Party Level: 11-13. No equipments.

It's more what didn't happen, as in the elections themselves. Voting Booth dissapered and the whole thing was scrapped. Still some good came out of it, since me and my crew managed to annoy the life out of a lot of people ;)
