In the entire FFX game no-one ever says "Tidus" or "hey Tidus". No-one, only one random guy in Luca which you cant even hear say says "hey your that guy Tidus right, your good at blitzball". Not one main character actually says his name

Yeah...weird huh?
Square-Enix just wanted to keep the old feel of naming your main character:) I wonder how Yuna would sound saying Tidus!:D
you would be weird if they say "Tidus" but in the naming point you put another name so SquareSoft wouldn't want to make such silly mistake, oh yeah, there's a NPC in Kilika that say Tidus too.

Since you can name Tidus from the beginning of the game, it would rather difficult for SquareEnix to be able to make EVERY possible combination of names we could think up for Tidus. The NPCs can say "Tidus" because their responses are based on what you named Tidus.
It's really just common sense that if you name a character, then you don't have his name in spoken speech.

The same is also true of the aeons, and of Tidus in X-2, who is referred to as "Him." In FFX, they call Tidus a lot of things, but my favorite was "Son of Jecht."

here's my favorite thing to say when this comes up:
Yuna: I love you Tidus!!!
Tidus: You RETARD!!! For the last time: MY--NAME--IS--BILLYBOB--JIMJOE!!!
Though they could have said his name in X-2. It wasn't so obvious in X when they were speaking TO him...but in third person it was annoying. I mean, how many people never played X but played X-2? They probably didn't know who the hell Yuna was talking about.
Yuna: I love you...erm...what was it now...OH, I KNOW...I luvywuvy you Voldemort!!
Tidus: *pats her head* Sure...lets just go with that...
