View Full Version : Most hated monster

So what's yours? Don't tell me you don't have one. FFI and II had those annoying, frustrating enemies you hated to run into. I hated running into those Mind Flayer pallette swaps in the Ice Cavern. Grr...

"We'll attack you! Now you're paralyzed! Let's attack again! Instant death!"

I still don't see how it works. Is that just an effect added into their attack? :cat:

Oh well. What's your most hated FFI enemy? :cat:

Anything poisonous.

I was always too lazy to get anything that cured poison, so yeah...they were a pain. I also would try and make sure all my charicters leveled up at the same time. So if any of my chaicters died in a fight and I didn't revive them before it was over I would have to restart. I can't remember the name of the monster (dark prince guy?) but he would always 1-shot one of your guys right before he died. That was a pain. I re-did the encounter maybe 20 times untill he finaly didn't do it.

I don't recall what it was, but it petrified me in the heart of a dungeon and i had nothing to unpetrify him. By the time i got out and found my way to a town, that character had fallen so behind on levels... grrr

I hate the really rare monsters, mainly for Bestiary purposes

But yeah, I hate poisonous things at the start of the game, and Dragons for those breath attacks

BTW if anyone dies, I run back to the nearest town runing from all battles, I hate EXP lags between characters

I'd have to say the mages in the ice cave that use Fire3 a lot. The thing about WarMech is by the time I get to the point where I can encounter him, my party is prepared enough to smash him.

I hate those huge Wolf-groups while leveling up outside of Elfland.
They take time to kick down without the Silver Sword, and they leave ridiculously low amounts of EXP and Gil for them to be worth fighting.

"YAY! we're basically time-consuming bastards! Let's stand here and steal your time!
Oh, and don't care about the fact that we leave über-crappy rewards. :D" :rolleyes2

The potion vendor in the original NES version, for making me buy 99 potions one at a time. He's an enemy to efficiency.

Seriously though, most of the legitimate ones I could think of have been mentioned already. I'll go with Warmech as being the worst, for always appearing when you don't want him, and never appearing when you do for bestiary or EXP purposes.

Gas Dragons in the final Temple were pretty nasty, also.

Geists/Ghouls, Creeps, any wolves and any enemy that can poison you. Encountering an army of geists with the dreaded "monsters strike first" is enough to make me just shut down my PC and go to bed crying after spending 2 hours in a dungeon only to succumb to puny zombies.

where abouts is that? ive only got so far as to blow up the canal passageway. (Lv.12 character levels)

Nothing really annoying as yet. it used to be poisonous things, but i quickly learned i had to buy antidotes (Friggin marsh cave). Ogres are good gil! (until you get mystic key). Basically just enemies that dont give a lot reward, Gigas Worms, Crawlers, Wolves, Lizards. At least wraiths give good gil.

I hate Sorcerers/Mind Flayers. If they ambush your party, they'll most likely use their paralyze attack on everyone, and then they keep poking the party members for 1-2 damage that randomly causes instant death. Mages in the Ice Cave are another nightmare. When they ambush you, they'll kill everyone with Fire3 and Bane/Poison before you get a single turn (it has happened to me!).

Ghosts in the Sea Shrine are also quite annoying. They appear in groups of 3-5, they often ambush you and their attacks do a load of damage. 9 undead monsters with paralyzing capabilities and ambushing the party also annoys me. Clearly, I don't like being ambushed. :D WarMech is also a bit annoying in the PSX version because he's turned into WarChicken (he doesn't dare to face your party when you want to run into him).

Unless I misunderstood what you were talking about, the dungeons with bosses from other FF titles are completely optional. So if you can't defeat those bosses, you can still beat the game normally without going through those dungeons.

1. Sorcerer. Reason should be obvious. Cheapness.
2. Frost Dragons in the ToFR. It's not much fun being repeatedly obliterated within 2 minutes of walking in the door.
3. Anything that poisons you, just because of the annoyance factor of re-ordering your party in the NES version. And the annoyance of running out of antidotes in the Marsh Cave, when you're still poor enough that buying PUREs can be troublesome.
4. Ankylos. If I'm going to kill a walking tank, give me some gold for it.

How can you hate Warmech? He should be admired.

Harm3 > Dia(ga?)

ValiantKnight
07-03-2006, 06:43 PM
Harm3 < Diaga

All Spells in the DoS version are set to about 80% of their damage range if at regular int levels. and they no longer have a range really to speak of.

ie.. Harm3 I believe is 60-240? its set somewhere around 190 then.. and does like 190-191 to everyone.. if not 100 exactly. never does less, never does more.
It's kinda weird how they did it.. Int also increases the damage.

And for enemies..

Mindflayer/Sorceror(Paralyze and rub), Mages(Fire3/Bane), Barettas(I usually had a BB who is able to critical rather easily in Origins.. so wasnt too bad).
Warmech I've only fought twice on Origins.. he's rather rare.

And for Dawn of Souls...
Not sure what the enemy was called... but something on or around the 35th floor of Whisperwind Cove... had a Mage/Fighter monster set(looked like a Mage but painted black).. and was two of them.. Attacked with all my people like usual.. did about 500 damage to the first one... then he takes a turn... FLARE!
300~ damage to all my party.. ouchie.
I managed to kill the other one as Knight attacked and killed the first, then BB 1 hit killed the second.. but it was scary if there can be more than two of them...

/agree with the 99 potions from potion vendor thing. Takes forever.

#1 most hated enemy for me: ASTOS. He deserves some kiddy venting:
OMFG ThAt j00bAG N HiS FaRkKInG 1 HiT Ko HiTs ArGhHhHHHHhHHhhHH

reason? My single character challenge 1 thief game. The best wep the thief can equip at that point blows, hard. I was level 26 when I put that game aside (that's practically the end of the game for a normal party ffs) and he STILL owned the crap out of me. His slow thing totally owns my thief. At level 26 I finally got where I'd do like 3 hits for about 11 damage total, but as soon as he slows (which he does quite often), it's back to 1 hit for 1 damage. He has like 116 hp or something..... Would survive his hits easily except for F***ING RUB. I can get past the first one like once every 10 tries, but the second one, which always comes up about 3-4 attacks max later, gets me. I wonder if this is even gonna be possible at FIFTY.

I mean come on, I've got max 99 of every item and 32k gold or something at this point from all the damn ogres I've killed. It's getting harder to level because they all run away now. Can't kill cheaters peninsula yet though, maybe at 30. :/

------

With a normal game? The paralyzing monsters in the ice cave. Sorcerors/Mind flayers or w/e. My other game that I've finished was a single knight game, so the same probs with paralyzing/1 hit-KOing were there.

Warmech is a 1/64 battle rate, but on the NES you were guaranteed to fight a warmech within 64 battles because the game cycled through random encounter lists. I don't think much of anything was totally random in FF1 - it was all scripted lists - even enemy behavior. In later FF1s random encounters got totally randomized, so he hardly ever appears.

My least favorite enemy are the undead that cause paralysis. It seems to proc horribly often.

war mech was easy when i fought it but it killed my red wizard twice and i had to waste the white mage's turn to cast life on the red wizard ( I messed up and gave the red wizard curaga instead of the white wizard lol) but after my knight used giants gloves and the black mage finally casted haste on him (I really could've used a ninja...) he was hitting around 1200.The white wizard casted healaja every turn and after that i was fine. But I hate shinryu with all my heart. Cerberus was a pain in the ass when I first went into earthgift shrine after the marilith fight, but now he's down in one or two hits lol. Other than that the only things that bothered me were the ghosts and the piscodemons/mindflayers.

Any monster on the cart for FF1 on NES. When I used to play that game ages ago, like when i was 3 or 4 I never really noticed that you had to equip your items, so going through the game naked with awesome stuff in your inventory is painful.

Also, Omega. Took like 6 tries, and my people were at lv 70s or 80s. And each try took like an hour before he would kill me...

And btw Chaos is a weakling and so is Shinryu. Omega is teh shiznat!

I got shinryu on the first pass, and Chaos can be killed in one full attack round if I take the time and prepare in the battle. I tend to use the classic fighter, black belt, white mage, black mage combo team that kills all. Best party of all time in my opinion. and unless you are using a solo black belt, chaos is easy.

For supreme happiness in the pants, try three Red Mages. Slight limitation on spells, but so intensely easy to level up.

If you like to power play once in a while.

Or 4 Warriors, the game is just way to easy then.

Especialy after the class change!

Even before, seen as how fighting the fiends I never lost even one character =P

White Dragons, Green Dragons, and Dark Wizards

Same here, both white dragons and green dragons seem to always attack first so I always lose heath even when I can easily get rid of them...
