I'm kinda bored at the moment and I'm gettin ready to go to bed in about 30min. and a question that I've had for a few weeks popped into my head. Is Sleep Wasted Time?

I think the time spent sleeping is a huge waste of time. I mean 8 hours out of a 24 hour day is supposed to be devoted to sleep (yes i know most dont get that much and i dont care that is how much your supposed to get). That is 1/3 of the day. I think that if a person could find a way to make it so that people could sleep less, like 2-3 hours a day, or to make it so we could stay up indefinetly they would become rich. Sometimes I just stay up all night and look at the sky because I live in an extremly rural area and it is very peaceful at night. It would be nice to be able to do this all the time without worrying about falling asleep in class the next day.

So who agrees with me that sleep is a waste of time? Or do you like to sleep and find it peaceful or whatever? I want to know whether I'm some weirdo or if other people agree with me.

...Most people sleep to recharge. :cat:

I personally love sleep! It's a helluva lot better than this 'life' thing everyone is so on about:p

If people were solar powered, then of course sleep would be a waste of time. As it is, I'd rather get the sleep I need than be unable to function during the day.

Sleep is glorious. Dreams are also the greatest. I wish we had more time to sleep and dream. :D

Sleep helps your body stay healthy and helps your mind process and organize thoughts.

It's not a waste of time because we need it to be healthy. I just wish we needed less.

Seeing as sleep is a natural bodily function that is necisary for living, I don't think so. And sleep is the only time I can relax anyway.

Ouch!

Sleep is a great way to pass the time. For example, I'm going to go to sleep in the next ten minutes to shave time off of my 34 hour wait until I can go to EB games and pick up Kingdom Hearts II with minimal boredom. =D

How am I supposed to have adventurese in slumberland if I don't lay in bed and close my eyes once in a while? I love dreams. Therefor I'm fairly partial to sleep. It does get in the way once in a while. But I certainly wouldn't forsake it

I prefer to get as least sleep as possible.

so I am fine with 6 to 8 hours of sleep.

If I could stay awake for 24 hours a day, I would because I do believe that sleep is a waste. If I didn't need it to function and stay alive, I would never sleep. :cat:

Sleep is essential to me. It's an escape from pain, into a world of fantasy. Even if I have nightmares, it's better than when I'm awake.

I can get by on very little sleep. The only thing that encourages me to sleep lots is dreams. I would never consider sleep to be a waste of time, because of dreams.

Depends on how much alcohal you drank before you closed your eyes.

I like to be awake during my wasted time. That is pure preference though!

I do see sleep as a waste - though nothin wrong with snuggling with the wife.

I love sleep. Its an excuse to escape reality and enter my dreams, and world where the word or feeling "pain" dosent exist

More so than actually sleeping - I love getting in bed TO sleep.

<3333333333 That moment where you feel giddy that you're in bed with the covers wrapped around you and you know you have all night ahead to dream . . .

-sighs- I wish we could sleep more.

I love sleeping, but I'm with Leeza on this one. There isn't enough time in the day in the first place; I hate spending a third of it in a bed. Doesn't matter that if I had my choice, I would just be spending it in a chair, sitting here. ;D At least I would be doing something, instead of nothing. And school wouldn't be so horrible. =(

I don't like actually getting to sleep, and I always delay it for aslong as I can. But in the morning, Im like a zombie, on weekends I just snooze until 1pm.

Well, in college, there are three fundamentals:

Sleep, Social, and Academics.

However, you must sacrifice one in order to keep the other two well kept up. Now... Personally, I sacrifice sleep (getting anywhere from 2-5 hours of sleep a night) and I run fine. My Grades are above a 3.0 and my socialability is very good. Now, sometimes, I switch sleep and social, simply if I feel anti-social and/or my body is just run down after a couple weeks of few sleep.

So, it really depends on what you value.

I like my sleep. I have nice dreams :>

I don't belive sleep is wasted time. Sometimes I use sleep to kill time; very effective!

It would be great if I never had to sleep though. I'd get so damn rich and spend alot more time with friends!

I want to be 100% airpowered!

If I sleep on a problem I've usually solved it by the morning.

I have a strict body clock it seems, so I always wake up around the same time most mornings. If i'm up late the night before then I have a bad morning the next day.

I didn't read every post, so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet. I saw it on an episode of the '80s t.v. show, Moonlighting (you know where Bruce Willis got his start...)

This guy on the show (I think he was a corporate big shot) had been trained by hypnosis to fall asleep for 10 mins. when his watch alarm went off once each hour. This way he only slept 4hrs. each day, and supposedly could function normally when awake. Can't say for sure if this really would work, but it was hilarious when he just dropped into a deep sleep right in the middle of his conversation with Bruce Willis. :D

Sleep is a waste of time, sadly necesary, but still a waste.

I got 15 hours of sleep last night... and now I feel great.

So no, I'd say it isn't a waste.

No. Sleep is needed so therefore it isn't wasted. It's time that's wasted. There wouldn't be a need to not want more time and lack sleep if you spent the hours wisely. That made sense in my head...
