I just got to the part in calm plains where I was introduced to weapons with weapon catching on them, or whatever.. how exactly do I catch monsters? I can catch any fiend or what? And what's the point? Just for rewards (what kind of rewards do I get)?

Is it really worth the time? Like should I keep my taming weapons on at all time?

ALSO: I reached this secret abandoned castle thing where I fight this summoner's summons.. is there any point in this too? I've fought her twice and the 2nd time all I got were some X potions..

equip someone like auron with a capture weapon and then you have to physically attack it with the person equiped with the capture weapon

kill it with the weapon

For capture, you will get to fight the legendary (yeah, sure) Nemesis, and get some nice items for create weapons later.

For fight the summoner, first try to get all the summons (including Yojimbo and Anima) and you will get one of the best summons in the game.

Good luck :D

it is worth the time and patience. what i do is just buy and modify capture weapons for three of my characters and just use them to catch monsters in one sitting. i found the rewards very useful.

While we're on the subject of capturing monsters, I have a question. I know Capturing monsters is essential to get a Sigil for Auron's Masamune. How many monsters must I collect to get it?

You NEED to do the monsters/summoner side quest if you wish to obtain 2 of the 7 Legendary Weapons, and is required for Nemesis. But before you get the airship, it is a fruitless venture. Magus Sisters, Yojimbo, and Anima are aquired by certain small parts of these two quests, and other parts will also require them.

You can catch most Fiends, but some cannot be caught (like areas you can't return to). During the main story, NEVER use the Taming Weapons, because it gets rid of abilities that you need to prevail over a normal Fiend (well, it'll make your life harder...)

If all you intend to do is beat Sin, then don't bother.

100. 10 groups of 10 must be from 10 different areas.
So there are 10 regions. Catch 10 of one Fiend in each of the 10 regions.
Or try to catch them all (which is less of a headache) and you should be fine. The Fiend named Mewtwo is by far the most difficult to capture.

It is worth it, because you end up fighting Penance!

The true penance that we pay is having to live with 12 year olds.

Ouch!

Btw,it is worth it,only if you intend on doing some serious leveling. The monster arena is the best place for leveling up.

It is worth to do Monster Arena quest, cause you get lot of AP, items and have to fight strong monster. You need to catch 1 of each monster in that area at ten areas in order to get the sigil. The reward are worth the challenge since most of the items help you to customize your equipment. The abandoned castle is the Remiem Temple. Obtain Anima and Yojimbo and capture all the monster in Mount Gagazet (The Mountain Cave too). Get the the item from the monster arena and win the battle with Bahamut to get another items. Once you have beat Anima and Yojimbo along with other aeons than go to the chamber of the Fayth behind Belgemine and get Magus Sisters. Beat Magus Sisters to get Yuna's Moon Sigil (YOU MUST SEND HER TO FARPLANE).

As far as I know, Penance only appear after you beat all Dark Aeons.

So I try and catch how many monsters in each area? And doesn't equipping the taming weapons kinda crap out your efficiency when in real battles where you aren't actually looking to capture things?

Also.. someone said something about an airship.. what exactly is this? And will it ever be too late to go back to capture? (maybe there's a site that tells me more info on capturing?)

gamefaqs.com will tell you all you want to know about capturing.

You can cross the entire length of Spira on foot and by boat (I've tried), but the Airship lets you travel to any region instantly.

You'll want to capture when you set aside time specifically for capturing. The best time is once you open up the dungeon in Sin, since it's the last dungeon that contains monsters that can be captured.

You'll get a lot of some particular item for capturing at least one of each monster in a given area. It will also unlock a specific monster that appears only in the Arena.

You'll also get 99 Dark Matter (!) for capturing five of every monster in every area. They are the best customizing item.

You'll get 10 Master Spheres for capturing ten of every monster in every area. They let you move to any point on the Sphere grid. Nifty, but I would've liked more Dark Matter.

You'll also get items for capturing a certain number of every species, but if you go for ten of every monster in every area, you'll get those anyways.

I went to Gamefaqs also. It's a tedious mission and not for those without patience, I say keep one taming weapon on one person and give the other two people normal weapons.
