View Full Version : Limitless!

Been a while since I posted a thread...

Totally theoretical here.
Suppose you could have an unlimited quantity of something. What would you choose, and how come? For nearly each thing, there's a bevy of good and bad consequences.

For example:

Unlimited lifetime: You'd live forever, never having to worry about old age and death... which would mean becoming an anachronism and having to watch all your friends pass away and fade into historical obscurity, for century after century.

Unlimited wealth: You could buy heaps of stuff, but everyone would want to rob you or would ask for donations. Also, you'd distort the value of whatever currency you're using:p

Unlimited strength: It'd be really easy to break things, even things such as mountains, which are usually quite hardy.

Unlimited knowledge: You'd have the answers to all the big questions, but it'd be hard to convince other people. Also, your mind would be a clutter with an infinite assortment of trivial facts, as well as the info that actually matters.

So each 'gift' would also be a bit of a curse. Personally, I'd probably go for unlimited knowledge. It'd be nice to know the straight answers to the big universal questions, as well as knowing other handy things like cures for cancer and other maladies.

INfinite amount of ways for me to have fun.

Are we too assume that there is an infinite universe to house that infinite wealth, or is it purely credit?

I would have infinite HDD space. The only downside I can forsee is that there isn't enough porn to fill it all up.

But we have quite a lot of knowledge anyway in our heads, and we can still usually pull relevant data to the fore. Still, if I ever meet a genie, "I wish to know everything" isn't as simple as that. Clauses are necessary:

"I wish to know everything excepting fictional information I have not already observed, I don't wish to know the future, and I don't wish to have more knowledge than I can handle without going insane."

Wily ones, those genies. One has to be careful. But I think that would cover it, because knowledge beyond that would be awesomesauce. I want to still be able to enjoy plot twists in movies and books, which is why fiction is ruled out.

If someone had UNLIMITED wealth it would be likely that curreny would be rendered obsolete rather that distorted...

and I would choose unlimited knowledge. Think about it. You would have the knowledge to cure cancer and other terminal dideases. Maybe bring about world peace. if you knew EVERYTHING you would be able to fix the mistakes of past generations and leave a better world to the future generations. Compared to the other choices that, to me is the most constructive.

Well, I mean, I can understand - I'd sure love a wellspring of endless Mountain Dew - but when you could have so much more than a lot of a tasty liquid, it seems rather... strange to ask for just that. Like, you save the Prez's life, and don't ask for a medal or a monetary reward, just for a ham and cheese sammich. Tasty, sure, but... small. :p

Unlimited lifetime: You'd live forever, never having to worry about old age and death... which would mean becoming an anachronism and having to watch all your friends pass away and fade into historical obscurity, for century after century.
Why, if the life is only to learn, is a class where you only learn the ways of the people, and suffer and enjoy each teaching, and when it comes the time, you know you have already do what you wanted to do?

Unlimited wealth: You could buy heaps of stuff, but everyone would want to rob you or would ask for donations. Also, you'd distort the value of whatever currency you're using:p
Why, if your work will be useless and you will only be a ball called body, when you can work and make yourself usefull, and have your dreams fullfilled when you buy anything with the pay you get from your work?

Unlimted strength: It'd be really easy to break things, even things such as mountains, which are usually quite hardy.
Why, if when you are weak you can call a friend and ask him for help and enjoy the team work and the victory over breaking a thing in your way through life?

Unlimited knowledge: You'd have the answers to all the big questions, but it'd be hard to convince other people. Also, your mind would be a clutter with an infinite assortment of trivial facts, as well as the info that actually matters.
Why, if you can get that answers knowing new people with different knowledge of the life, and each one can teach you a different way of life, and make your own answers?

I will not choose anyone, because the life was made for live it and suffer and enjoy; for try and miss, and give another try; for learn from the people around you and learn something new each day until your death; for create your own ideas from the world; for live and die; for love and hate; for victory and loose.

Just create your own path, not try to drive through it...

Any of these could make me a Ra's al Ghul-esque leader who can finally try and wipe out all humanity, so it's a tough decision. Maybe if there were a 'Live forever in a kitty world' we could pick that. :P :cat:

Unlimited knowledge, with the specifications IMOM said, would be cool.

Wait, what am I saying?! Knowledge is power, I could figure out how to do the rest of those wishes with just that. And hate people even more, yeah, I'm going for knowledge here :cat:

Harvest Chedder Sun Chips. T___T <33333 -eats a bag now-

I'd have -censors self- whenever I wanted. n_nV

Couldn't you just wish for infinite money to come in? o.o Then you can order maids ( in hot outfits of course ) bring you infinite rootbeer and sun chips and sammiches?

If I could have infinite money coming in I'd of course quit my job and then I'd travel all over seeing my friends from the RPG as well as a few from here or just host a huge EoFF on some cruise and pay for it all.

An unlimited supply of ketchup. You have no idea how fast I go through that stuff. And I always run out at the WORST possible times, like right after I've made a bunch of hash browns. It sucks, man.

I never wanted to live forever before, but once in awhile it doesn't sound too bad. I don't know about that.
