Recently, I heard that red cars are more likely to get stopped by Policemen than any other colour of cars.

knowing this, I am looking for my very first car.

So.. what colour was your first car? And is this red car thing true? :S

Not really, there may be a .5% statistical edge to red cars or something. But really, since it's not the most common color of car, I'd say heck no. Sports car's probably take the prize for "pulled over most often".

My first car was red, and I was only pulled over once in it. Of course it was an '88 Dodge Omni compact hatchback. Not too sporty. :D

I believe its true. Red symoblizes action and excitement, its a common tatctic used in marketing, hence why so many porn sites are filled with red color. Just so you know, its the teacher that said that.

Nah, I don't think so...

Well, I still have my first car (nearly two years with it:D), it is grey with silver and red little rays, and it is an '85 Pontiac Grand Prix. I just love it :D

I've always heard it to be true. Doesn't mean it is, but as corncracker said, red is a color that conveys action, catches the eye, and draws attention to whatever the object is, so I could definetly see how it could make a cop think a car is going faster than it is.

I doubt it. Do you know how many red Holdens are in Australia? If they pulled up every red car, they'd equally have to pull up every blue car, for you know, the people who drive fords. I don't know the colour of my first car. I mean, I'm getting a bomb and it's going to be a Datsun, so it's probably be that old brownish colour.

This is said to be because red is more noticable to the eye, not for reasons peop,e buy red cars.

I've been driving for six years and both of my cars were red. I've only been pulled over twice, once for a violation and another for my headlight being out. And I've done plenty of violations otherwise, and also drove with a burnt out headlight for six months before being pulled over.

Don't red cars also have to pay higher insurance? I think my momma told me that.

My first car was an orangy-brown color. I've never been pulled over, except while driving TheAbominatrix's car 'cause, like she said, the headlight was out. She was in the back being a drunken whore, for those who are curious.

At least I left my insults back in the PMs. Childish, all you are is childish.

To stay on topic:

I always heard that police tend to pull over more sport-like cars were more likely to get pulled over than the town cars and family cars. Also, old beaters were as well.

Wooooooooooohoooooooo!!

My insurance is pretty low, I dunno if the color is factored into it all.

I'm pretty sure the reason sports cars get pulled over more is because they're usually being driven pretty fast. Well, that's what they're bought for anyway. My first car was a red sportscar, and again I only got pulled over once in... what? 3 or 4 years of crappy driving (I was a newb, after all).

Of course, you can only get pulled over for sucking, so it doesnt matter what color or make your car is unless you're a bad driver.

there are more red cars then any other
So theres more chance that a car is red only because there are more of them

It probably depends on whether the person at the wheel is a skinhead. 'Wish I were joking, but that's how it is.

Hmm, I've never heard anything like that. I do know that they tend to overlook blue ford tempos. I don't know how many times I met a cop in that thing going at least 10 MPH over the limit and wasn't pulled over.

I was pulled over driving my friends blue ford tempo and they brought the dog in to sniff for drugs :(

Ooo Ooo, driving stories. Awesome. I have such a humorous driving record that it is fun to share. Sorry if this post is too long for some of you, but if you actually do read it, I hope you share in the amusement.

My First car was a Midnight-Blue Pontiac Grand Prix. Being a Darker shade of blue... It made no difference with that car. The first time I got pulled over was right after the speed changed from 40 to 30 in a small, very strict village nearby. Naturally I got pulled over for doing like 37 in a 30. That got taken off my record since the judge felt 'lenient' and I only had to pay for half of the ticket.

The second time I got pulled over in the "Blue Beast" as we had come to call it, I was trying to get my friend who snuck out home before her parents found out she was gone. This was while I had a provisional permit still, so I wasn't supposed to be driving past midnight and I was only able to have 1 passenger at a time. Well, since I was in a hurry, and she lived in that village, I took the back roads and got pulled over by a very sleepy Cop for doing 75 in a 40. He was one of those cops that sleeps while he has his gun on and only tickets those that go fast enough to wake him up. He just sort of yelled at me like "WHY ARE YOU GOING SO FAST!!!" He was actually kinda funny. But alas, I got 2 citations, one for being out after midnight, one for speeding. Both were taken off of my record since I went to driving school and community service.

I got pulled over one last time with that car, Halloween-eve a couple years ago. It was about 1:30 AM and I had 2 passangers... A cop was right in front of me and went through a yellow light, I wouldn't have been able to stop in time so I made it through the light as well (It was still yellow by the time I got 3/4 through anyway. Well.. he U-turned and pulled me over for wreckless driving. First thing he did was walk up to my window and say "Son, have you been drinkin'?" Now at the time I had never drank so I found this kinda funny... "Hahaha...Noooo," I replied, becoming wide-eyed after realizing what I had done. He gave me the most evil glare I have ever witnessed in my life. "I can smell it on you! Do I have to test you?!" he is yelling. I finally maintain my composure and reply "No, Officer, I have not been drinking." "Alright, give me your licence and registration." Now that I am getting fairly nervous... I reach into my wallet and pull out my Student ID by mistake. He starts yelling at me. I finally get the licence to him and he looks at it for awhile. "Where does your dad work?" He asked. I gave him a ponderable look and told him, then he walked back to his car.

After awhile he came back and said "I know your father, used to work with him, he's on his way to pick you up since you arent supposed to be driving after midnight anyway, in fact he said your home curfew was supposed to be 11... I think you are in enough trouble as it is, so Im gonna let you off the hook." Needless to say, it was a very long ride home since we still had my other 2 passengers to take home as well... You don't know uncomfortable silence until you go through that.. I was grounded until New Years Day...XD

A Year or so later, after the beast was finally put out of comission. I bought a Purple Geo Tracker since I was going to be pizza delivery driver when I turned 18, as well as going to school 15 miles away... and needed the good gas mileage. It was a fun car for the most part, and served me well. Though I did get pulled over several times when I became a pizza delivery driver... all but one became warnings until the night before New Years Eve this last year. On the 30th, another Driver and close friend of mine wrecked his car, and later that night I blew a fuse that made me loose all my lights and radio... I got pulled over when I accidently ran a stopsign, trying to read the address with a small LED light. The cop gave me a warning for the stop sign and gave me a ticket for having my lights out. He said if I let him have a pizza when he came by and got the lights fixed it would be cleared. I said sure and did that. Though, unfortunately the next day, New Years Eve, I had fixed the fuse and was delivering pizzas all that morning. At about 5:30 PM I was heading north on one road and lost control of my breaks, and my car got eaten by the rear-end of an Escalade with a very firmly planted Tow Hitch. Really didnt do much to her car, but mine was lost most of it's insides. First thing I did was disregard my bleeding nose and knee and limped over to her car to see if she was alright. She was fine... until she saw that I was in uniform, then started complaining of Neck Pain. She had OnStar so the cops and whatnot were already on their way. I called my boss to let him know that someone had to remake a couple pizzas, and he was kinda in shock since the other guy wrecked the night earlier. A minute later I hear someone behind me, it was the cop from the night before. He simply stated "Well, I see you got the light problem fixed.."

That Accident actually has costed me more than anything in my life. Though the ambulence that came checked out the woman and told her there was nothing wrong with her, and she drove home in her car and later filed an injury claim. I ended up moving on and buying a new car (A Silver Kia Spectra) and stayed at the Domino's becoming a Shift Manager. When I finally got my insurance, the accident claim put my car insurance from $630/every 6 months to $580/month... which is just unaffordable. My dad took the new car, I quit my job, and now I am currently struggling to move onto campus so I can finish off this semester.

Moral of the story, don't wreck as a Pizza Delivery Driver.

I think it is true that more red cars get pulled over than any other color just for the fact that red is a very eye catching color. The first car that I got was about 2 years ago and it was a 95 tan ford escort. But I prefer my motorcycle.

I read all of Bad Karma's post. Good story. ^_^

As for the red car myth, I don't think it has any backing. If it's true, it's probably mostly due to chance.

I heard that red cars do indeed get pulled over more. This was from a used car dealership. Which makes sense. However, I don't know whether that has to do with the red color itself or just the sort of car that is typically bright red. Actually, it's probably much more to do with the latter.

You don't see many family-car sedans as a bright red. Bright red is typically a sports car/convertible bring driven by younger people. They're more likely to speed and thus more likely to get pulled over.

A teal blue Dodge Intrepid, which I still am driving, nearly 5 years later. Boy, that car has been good to me.

As for the concept of red cars being pulled over more, I think, it's as others have said, moreso the perception that red cars are generally viewed as having the same connotation that the color red has: power, rebellion, etc, etc. Though the numbers are probably only slightly in that favor to prove anything, if at all, perhaps it's more the internal thoughts that when we see red, we think a certain way and therefore, it enters into our judgment as such.

Take care all.

Dank: unpleasantly damp or humid.

My friend, Chris had a van like that. It was grey, too! Maybe there's a connection?
