I'm a beginner to pixel art and I'd like to hear your thoughts on what I've done. I would have posted in the gallery but the images aren't really big enough. So, anyway...

Troop

I plan to make a side-scrolling shooter soon, and here's my first sprite for it. This took like, five hours, and only one frame is complete. VERY time-consuming.

Helicopter

I don't expect anyone to comment positively on this. Why? Because this is an old version. I've done far more than this, and I have no Internet connection at home; I'm using a college PC. I got the shape right though, and the version I have at home looks far better. I'll try and upload the new version when/if I can.

Nintendo DS

This is part of a logo I am doing for the Nintendo section of a gaming commnity. This is just one console complete, took about two hours. I'm going to try and do most of the Nintendo ones.

Nintendo Logo

For the same purpose as the DS. I think it's okay, but I reckon I used shading inapporpriately...

That's way better than I could do - I'd get really impatient and just stop half way through. 5 hours? Wow.

Nice work, Shaun.

Thanks. I'm pretty proud of what I've done considering I only started like, a week ago. But it's nothing compared to what professionals can do. :)

Well you know what they say, practice makes perfect! :)

That's right! :) Speaking of pixel art, who's that in your sig/avatar? I recognise her, but I'm not 100%.

Very cool! :excited:
My eyes get lazy when I try pixel art! :greenie:

Thank you (I've lately felt an urge to thank everyone for some reason)! It just takes time, and painkillers.

It's a dancer from Final Fantasy IV! :grinpink:

I look forward to seeing more of your work. :)

Ohh, I see. :D Long time since I played IV! And yeah, I should check out some of your work if you've posted any here? PM me with anything if you like and I'll get back to you on it. :)

I could do the troop in half the time! But less cool looking. And sloppier. And possibly resembling Megaman X. :shifty:

I remember once doing this alien doing some kind of magic that took me about four days. I wish I still had it. :( I know how rough this stuff can be, especially when you're doing it from absolute scratch. I like the DS the most of the lot. The sad thing is even just five hour's work with MS Paint doesn't lead to the best result. If you spend enough time on the top two they could end up really good.

Yeah, well I've sent off the troop to one of the best sprite artists out there for advice, but he still hasn't gotten back to me. As for the 'copter, I have a newer version. :) Yeah, lots of people do prefer the DS. Also - DON'T use Paint! XD There's a program called GraphicsGale which is free and FAR better.
