There's nothing to spoil. Kefka's past and origins are very much unexplained by the game itself, and doesn't affect the game in any way if you got spoiled with this "information". You'd probably just appreciate it more.

Any new information is based on fans' understandings of the game. All that is offered of Kefka's past in the game text alone, is someone in Albrook who mentions that he is one of the Empire's generals.

Based on subtext (comprehension), Kefka was one of the Emperor's first subjects to undergo Magitek research/experimentation, probably at a young age, which means 30+ years ago. However, the process was not refined enough, and resulted in Kefka becoming crazy. Fortunately, this also makes Kefka the greatest villian ever. It's not about the whole "now that we know his past thing, he's messed up", but rather, a by-product of him, and Woosley's translations.

Yeah, he's got a voice. Just because it was on SNES, doesn't mean a character can't have a voice (any of those who deny Kefka has voice acting is a newb). Media sound technology was developed in 1928.

Humorous, genocidal, mentally unstable, a gigantic science experiment gone wrong, god-like, has a loyal set of followers as large as the fan club of PiP, levels the world, rearranges the face of the remaining world, kills his master, controls the main character, a bone-chilling laugh of EVIL, and the world's greatest one liners since God, including one point, where many would equate Kefka to God in the world of FFVI...

All of this makes Kefka the greatest villian ever. Yeah, Sephiroth has a sword too big to use realistically, and an attack that takes 5 minutes to pass, and can't kill you, plus, his ever trademarked wing.
Kefka gets all of magic, 3 goddess at his command, 8 dragons, a tower of DEATH, another tower of DEATH, a halo, and TWO wings, and rivals God. End of argument.
