Boss's choice and it really is that intrusive in the end. If it works better than the previous system, then I'm sure it'll keep and I approve.

Beware, the Shinra will close this thread down, reasoning that it's another seed of insurrection! :|

I think it's stupid and annoying.

I thought they were better at the top of the page myself, as it gave me something to read (and maybe click if they were interesting, although they're usually about FFXI gil) while waiting that split second for the rest of the page to load.

I think they suck /xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif, but the boss word is final I suppose. I'd click them more often regardless of where they were on the screen if they actually linked to something I want/care about.

If we need sponsors, at least the person who put it up managed to do it in a non-intrusive way. You can scroll right past it, there are no pop-ups, they're not on every page... like I said, if we need sponsors at least it isn't too annoying. So far I'm fine with it.

I bet there's at least 5 threads about this in the feedback forum by now.

I sorta see where boss is coming from with these new ads.

they pay EoFF HQ money if we click on them right?

Madame Adequate
04-09-2006, 02:55 AM
Unless people start accidentally clicking on unexpected links, I'm not sure how this will increase revenue. It's made me less prepared to click on them due to being so intrusive.

Jess
04-09-2006, 02:59 AM
Do these things get EoFF money every time we click them? If so, I'm willing to click a few everyday.

Mo-Nercy
04-09-2006, 03:07 AM
In TekkenZaibatsu, there's a member called AdBot that "posts" ads every now and again in every post. I've gotton used to that so this isn't much of a transition.

Yamaneko

Yes.

Raistlin
04-09-2006, 03:26 AM
I think a "hey, reminder: clicking the ads gives EoFF money, so please look at them!" announcement every 6 months or so would do more towards getting people to click ads than plastering them all over between posts.

Yamaneko
04-09-2006, 03:37 AM
Why am I seeing ads in the middle of threads now? That's a bit irritating.

Check the announcement.

*reads*

This would actually make me NOT click the ads out of spite. :p Ads between the posts are a bit overboard.
Yeah, an announcement would do wonders!

Raistlin
04-09-2006, 03:38 AM
I read every announcement and you damn well know I do. Just maybe not in the first ten minutes. :p

Cid
04-09-2006, 03:42 AM
At the top of the page, they were easily ignorable. If you aren't clicking now, you weren't gonna click when they were at the top either.

By the way, google prohibits me from reminding you to "help out the site" by clicking ads, so I wouldn't make such an announcemnt.

Seriously, I don't think it's that bad. But maybe I'm wrong. The bad news (for you guys) is that it seems more effective.

Psychotic
04-09-2006, 03:43 AM

Cid
04-09-2006, 03:44 AM
I didn't put any input into the Feedback forum and its current state (which is certainly not to say that I disagree with what has happened). I, solely, made this decision with the ads without consulting the staff.

In other words, the isolation of the feedback forum and the placement of these ads is unrelated.

Psychotic
04-09-2006, 03:47 AM
Well, yeah, my comment wasn't really about these ads though. It was more about the nature of the thread. It's exactly what you'd expect to see in the old Feedback.

So when I saw Ad's I thought I was at the end of the thread..
Then to my amazement.. More posts.
Which only added to the confusement of why are there random links to things irrelevent to me in this thread..
But oh well, if it's benefitting someone, then lets have a go at the random Ad's in the middle of a thread. :eep:

They aren't exactly aesthetically pleasing, but they aren't all too much of an inconvenience either.
However, I notice the ads less now than I did when they were at the top, because they aren't in a constant place on the thread. If I've already read all the posts on the top portion of the thread, then I'm not going to see them because I'll just skip to the bottom. Ads on the top AND bottom of a thread seem more practical to me, that way they're sort of a guaranteed see.

Oh hell just click it ^__^

EoFF has given us free FF Music downloads before and has even made an community which consists of FF players around the world...

...so its time to pay them back for the good that they have done and click on the ads!!

*oh yeah BTW where is the music downloads site now? o.o
did they change the site? or is it really removed?*

Yep. It would be a pretty easy way to get money, by getting all your visitors to go click crazy, so they stopped it.

Unfortunately, now it works the other way around too, with competitors clicking wildly at thier rival's websites trying to get each others ad accounts banned.

I've donated to the cause directly, so I feel doubly pained right now. I imagine the increase revenue is being caused by people accidentally clicking on them whilst scrolling down more than anything else. Still capitalism rules all, and we are but the sausages.

Admittedly, I didn't read this whole thread.

Now, here's my big question. BoB said that the placement of these ads were designed to get random browsers to click through, and not regular forum members. However, its very strange that I'm seeing the ads in greater number in forums that unregistered members can't access, and not as often in GC. Is the placement of these ads completely random, or based on number of posts in a thread or anything like that?

Just something I noticed.

Captain Maxx Power

I think (but I don't know) that the reason GLR's post was deleted was because it contained a link to an add on for Firefox that blocks advertisements. I read the post, and I can't see any other reason.

Clicking once in a while is fine, but clicking on a single link for FFXI gil 80 times per visit clearly indicates that the clicker has no interest in the product. So google could cancel my account.
